The latest in the series of ‘Made From Beer’ ads from Clemenger Bbdo Melbourne for beer brand Carlton Draught has romped home as the winner of August’s ad of the month, as voted by Mumbrella’s readers.
The ad is an elaborate spoof of seventies’ car chase movies and features a gang of Aussies stopping off for a beer after a bank robbery only to discover the pub is full of cops. A chase on foot ensures, during which the gang hang on to their beers, spilling barely a drop while evading capture. The ad features Stan Bush covering the poodle-rock classic “Thunder in Your Heart”.

Beer brand Carlton Draught has released a new ad, the latest in the popular Made From Beer series.
Beer Chase was created by Clemenger Bbdo Melbourne, which has been responsible for the beer brands’ previous work including Slo Mo and Big Ad.
The latest spot plays on action movie clichés as four bank robbers celebrate a successful heist with a beer, only to realise the pub is full of police, and a foot chase ensues over a cheesy 1980′s soundtrack.
Launched online today with a 90-second version, the ad will go live during the football Afl and Nrl finals on September 7, followed by a 60 second version as well as three 30 second versions based around a different scene.
The ad will also go out in cinemas before action films.

Director: Nick Cohen.
Writers: Mark Anthony Galluzzo and Chris Baker.
This review is going back a little to After Dark Horrorfest's 2010 lineup which included The Reeds. This is a film that sees several friends boating around the United Kingdom in tragic fashion. This weekender involves exploding propane tanks, vicious burns and gory impalements. Most would classify this title a horror film, but the film goes a little deeper than that into history and into tragedy.
Laura (Anna Brewster), Joe (Daniel Caltagirone), Mel (Emma Catherwood), Nick (O.T. Fagbenle) and Chris (Will Mellor) head out on a boat rented to them by Mr. Croker (George Bell). Quickly, they become lost in head height reeds, until there is a light in the distance. That light is firelight and burning is Mr. Croker's dog. This is some foreshadowing for events to come as several cast members will meet a similar fiery fate.

Anonymous has been at it again. Following Primary Colors's version of Clinton comes O: A Presidential Novel. Mark Lawson on the tradition of insider political fiction, from Disraeli to The West Wing. A preview from tomorrow's Guardian Review.
Also in tomorrow's Review: Composer Mark-Anthony Turnage on why Anna Nicole Smith is a true operatic heroine, Andrea Levy on why she wrote Small Island, Stefan Collini in praise of Eric Hobsbawm and Sarah Churchwell on the scandalous Lillian Hellman
A successful political career demands a tradeoff between fame and anonymity. A leader needs to be known – an Obama, Blair or Clinton has the global recognisability of a rock star – but high-level politics also frequently depends on the exercise of secrecy. The unattributable briefing ("a party insider, speaking on condition of anonymity", "a source travelling with the prime minister") is a standard tool of political journalism, offering an early first...

While loyal acolytes obsess over the possibility Hammer Horror's golden age might be resurrected, Nick Cohen's The Reeds is one of a small number of UK genre pictures in recent years with an approach you could far better think of as actually 'British'. This has its pros and cons; The Reeds is far too often ramshackle, charmingly amateurish and questionably coherent. But it's also ambitious, thoughtful stuff, parts of it are beautifully put together, and it makes for ninety minutes of fairly effective if undemanding scruffy, lo-fi horror.
Its main hook is its location, shot out in the Norfolk wilderness. On paper it seems like a British Deliverance - a group of reckless, fun-loving city folk on a boating holiday, out to get drunk and patronise the cretinous locals but finding themselves trailed by snarling things lurking in the fens. They're all conveniently paired off, nice girl with nice guy,...

This past Halloween weekend FilmShaft was entrenched at the Grimm Up North Horror and Sci-Fi Festival in Manchester for three days of horror entertainment. It was a case of the good, the bad and the ugly. Isn’t it always?
The great thing about the programme was the variety. There was interpretations of horror from around the world. Although the Dancehouse has a certain faded and decayed opulence in an art deco kind of way, the sound wasn’t amazing and the screen wasn’t the best. But one images this is what it was like to watch a film in the days before the multiplex and Thx sound.
Below is a selection of what movies stood out and for various reasons.

Now in it's fourth year, Horrorfest, the annual cinematic showcase for After Dark Films, has established something of a reputation as a platform for fresh, daring filmmakers to get themselves noticed. More than just a simple market for nasties, the After Dark label stands for quality by way of authenticity, delivering horror films by genre lovers for genre lovers. In addition to this yearly frightfest, After Dark recently announced a new venture to develop their own projects, in partnership with SyFy, NBC, and Lionsgate, titled After Dark Originals. Aiming to do for horror what the Sundance Institute did for the American indie, the eight slate series will begin production next month with a view towards theatrical release later this fall.

The Norfolk Broads is a network of mostly navigable rivers and lakes in the English countryside but it becomes the setting for a deadly nightmare in the chilling new British thriller The Reeds. Equal parts horror movie, ghost story, and ‘there’s something out there!’ thriller, The Reeds harkens back to the days when horror filmmaking was straightforward. The suspense is strong, the violence very personal and painful, and the film is one very black, black voyage.
The Reeds follows three twentyish couples aboard the Corsair Star, a small cruise boated rented from the salty Mr. Croker, the local marina operator. The boating party loses its bearings and cuts through the vast reedy tidewater in search of the main channel when suddenly the boat runs aground on a large metal cage holding a human skeleton, impaling one of the passengers. Every attempt to save themselves and find a way out fails,...

The Reeds is a Funnyman Films production that will release January 29th with several other titles in the 2010 Horrorfest Film Festival. Financed by Screen East, Siverstream Productions, Altadena Films, Delacheroy Films, and Di Dragon, The Reeds now has a final, bloodier, film poster (click for a better look). Showing endless lines of tall grass this one-sheet centers on the tagline "No Outs." The Reeds official poster also displays dark reds that fade into blackness. Eerie and sinister enough for a horror festival, The Reeds movie poster stands out as being one of the better film posters to be released, despite the simplicity of the picture. Some pretty exciting news to end the week as After Dark Films announced that The Reeds will be the seventh film in next month's fourth annual After Dark Horrorfest. That leaves one and final movie to go. We caught a screening of Nick Cohen's thriller at last month's Afm (read our review here), and while we weren't huge fans, it's a solid genre thriller that a think a lot of you may enjoy. Reeds follows a boating party that gets lost in the ancient waterways of the Norfolk Broads and finds itself victim of a terrifying secret hidden in The Reeds. Check out the release, trailer and new still below.

About a year ago we showed you a promo trailer for a film called The Reeds. It looked like it had a cool idea going for it and some interesting photography but we honestly never thought it would get turned into a feature film. But, lo and behold, what does Altadena Films provide us with today, but the completed trailer for Nick Cohen's new feature length shocker, The Reeds.
The film looks to blend a ghost story with the new hoodie-horror trend that's rocking England right now. Personally I think it looks extremely well done, and not like just another cheapo horror film debuting at Afm this year.

Ghosts have to get a new hobby. Seriously. They die in a specific place, probably tortured and murdered there, then haunt that location and raise hell for the living. We've seen it time and time again, now see it in The Reeds , a UK chiller from Nick Cohen ( Voodoo Lagoon ) starring Scarlett Alice Johnson and Geoff Bell ( Rocknrolla ). Long Time Dead scribe Chris Baker penned the story with Mark Anthony Galluzzo. And the premise is simple: A boating party gets lost in the ancient waterways of the Norfolk Broads and finds itself victim of a terrifying secret hidden in the reeds. Said "secret" appears to be a bunch of dead thugs (one of them charred, it seems), according to the trailer which we got our hands on. See for yourself below. Hopefully this will have...
