Set against a gritty London backdrop, Olga Kurylenko plays a tough motorbike courier whose day takes a wrong turn after discovering a package she’s carrying is a bomb… The target? Nick Murch (Amit Shah), the only witness able to testify against ruthless crime lord Ezekiel Mannings (Gary Oldman). As the British Police and FBI scramble to deal with the mess, the mysteriously well-trained and equipped courier teams up with unlikely partner Nick to evade Mannings’ heavily armed goons and make sure that justice is delivered.

You don’t expect subtlety from a movie whose very first second consists of the heroine getting a fist to her face, or whose poster suggests the real “star” is her leather-clad posterior. Still, a bagful o’ hammers might provide exactly the same amount and type of entertainment value as “The Courier.” This stridently dumb action thriller has Olga Kurylenko as the titular figure protecting an investigation witness (Amit Shah) from the minions of an international bad guy (Gary Oldman).
Director Zackary Adler’s sixth clock-punching feature in four years is the kind of enterprise in which characters are usually yelling at each other, and every footfall gets a Dolby thump. "Who are you?" "Just a courier." Lionsgate has debuted an official trailer for the cheesy action film The Courier, an "intense action-thriller" that unfolds in real time. If you haven't had enough of the Transporter movies, there's even more in this. Olga Kurylenko stars as a badass female motorcycle courier who must fight off a sadistic crime boss' henchmen in order to protect the one witness that can bring him down. She discovers that one of the packages might not be as harmless as she was told. Also starring Gary Oldman, Dermot Mulroney, William Moseley, Alicia Agneson, Craig Conway, Amit Shah, Lee Charles, and Joel Michaely. I'm digging Oldman with the eye-patch, but the rest of this looks terrible - derivative, and bland, and cliche. What's with the voices sounding so weird? Might as well skip it, doesn't look so good. Here's the first official trailer (+ UK version / poster) for Zackary Adler's The Courier,...

Kurylenko plays a courier whose daily deliveries are interrupted when she discovers that her latest package is a gas bomb aimed to kill the only living witness on the brink of testifying against a ruthless crime lord, played by Oldman.

As a longtime fan of Gary Oldman, it’s great to see him joining a new action thriller! The movie is called The Courier and he will star alongside Olga Kurylenko (Oblivion).
Kurylenko will play a courier in the story “whose daily deliveries are interrupted when she discovers that her latest package is a bomb aimed at killing a witness who is about to testify against a ruthless crime lord".
As you might imagine, Oldman will be playing the crime lord, so we’ll get to see the actor play a villain again, which is always fun.
The UK action-thriller will start shooting in London next month under the direction of Zackary Adler (Rise of the Footsoldier III).

2016 was a great year for Zackary Adler. The New York born director has become a sort of a cult figure amongst fans of gritty British gangster movies; a genre which despite racking up hit after hit has until now remained on the fringes of the British film industry.
After the record-breaking success of his recently released films Rise of Krays (2015) and The Fall of The Krays (2016), Adler has also just finished directing the third instalment and prequel to Rise of the Footsoldier , a franchise based on real life events surrounding the Rettendon Triple Murders, better known as The “Range Rover murders”. The film will be released by Signature Entertainment later this year. And if that wasn’t enough, Adler is also about to start shooting the third instalment of his Krays franchise, titled The Krays And The Mafia.

★☆☆☆☆ 2015 saw something of a Krays craze. Amid the brouhaha surrounding the Tom Hardy double act that was Brian Helgeland's Legend, a plucky contender sought to muscle in on the red carpet turf of its glitzy, all conquering adversary. Everyone loves an underdog story but sadly there would be no fairytale victory for the lightweight B-movie challenger. Evidently working from a shoestring budget compared with his fellow American director, Zackary Adler brought The Rise of the Krays to the big screen - and DVD bargain bin shortly thereafter. Admirable in its attempt to present the murkier side of London in the 1960s, the film was problematic on a number of levels, not least the complete contrast in appearance of leading men Simon Cotton and Kevin Leslie. It charted the not-so-identical twins' transition from small time, aggressive ne'er-do-wells to London underworld kingpins through bloody violence, fruity language and plenty of Brylcream.

Related: How my negative review of Legend was spun into movie marketing gold
If you thought the florid Legend, the recent bio-drama that starred Tom Hardy as both Ronnie and Reggie Kray, was too classy, then this cheap-as-chips rehash of the same material is the film for you. A sequel to writer-director Zackary Adler’s The Rise of the Krays, it goes into a lot more detail about the lesser players in the Krays’ criminal empire, who killed whom, when and why, and all that tedious saga. The story feels more loyal to the historical record, and the seedy portrait of Reggie’s failed marriage is far more persuasive than Legend’s romanticised version, but the acting standard here would shame an am-dram panto. At least the design – all narrow-lapel suits and nicotine-stained wood panelling – feels plausibly of the period.

The criminal underworld of Britain has always held a fascination with filmmakers, offering a very specific kind of gritty realism that is often absent in its more polished counterparts from across the pond.
To celebrate the release of not one, but two incredible British gangster films, (Fall of the Krays and Rise of the Footsoldier 2), courtesy of Signature Entertainment, we’re taking a look back at some of the greatest British gangster films to hit the big screen.
Both of these upcoming titles are based on real life accounts of the British criminal underworld, adding a heady dose of realism to the stories, and combining it with what’s best about the genre- larger-than-life characters and a no-holds-barred approach to violence.
The list could be twice as long, but we’ve picked out a few of our favourites- enjoy!

NEW YORK -- Meta-theatrics infuse novelty into this otherwise routine coming-of-age indie comedy about a young man coping with prewedding jitters. Scripted by Reed Fish (who, suspiciously, doesn't merit a bio in the press kit) and directed by Zackary Adler, "I'm Reed Fish" ultimately is too clever for its own good.
The titular character, played by Jay Baruchel (Knocked Up), is an orphaned small-town guy looking to fill his late father's shoes as his community's resident radio personality. Engaged to town hottie Kate (Alexis Bledel), everything in his life seems to be working just fine. That is, until the arrival of his old school friend Jill (Schuyler Fisk), an aspiring musician who makes him suddenly re-evaluate his decision.
Spoiler alert: At a certain point in the proceedings, the rug is pulled out from the viewer, as what we're watching is revealed to be a film within a film, an autobiographical effort by the central character that, well, you get the idea.
There are fun moments throughout, thanks to the efforts of its leading players. Baruchel, more than a little reminiscent of Zach Braff here, has good comic timing, and Fisk is a real charmer. There also is a terrific supporting cast that includes such comedic pros as DJ Qualls, Katey Sagal and Chris Parnell.
Ultimately, the relentless quirkiness of the proceedings proves wearisome, and the bizarre structural conceit is not enough to compensate for the overly familiar characterizations and story line.
