A dynamically-gentle, compelling folk-Americana album by an earnest singer-songwriter from Chicago. Mr. Kesller once shared his chops on The Voice and that certainly helped raise his profile as an artist of merit and will hopefully afford him a much deserved wider audience for this amazing new album.
Recorded in Los Angeles at New Monkey Studio (made famous by Elliot Smith), About Memory was produced by Marc Daniel Nelson (Fleetwood Mac, Colbie Caillat) and Ran Jackson (Katy Perry, Goo Goo Dolls), and mastered by Eric Boulanger, who has worked with chart-topping artists like Adele, Green Day, and Neil Young.

Good cover songs tell you a lot, not just about the person taking on the tunes but the original artist who created them.
It takes a lot of chutzpah to out your own spin on music that has hit the zeitgeist, mega-hits that everyone knows and loves, but often, it's to show respect for the musicians who've come before. It's about performers taking on the music that has touched their souls, affected the way they craft their own songs or inspired them to pursue musical careers when most would say that's a crazy thing to do. It's honoring those who've come before you.

But movies were meant to be watched in the dark, which makes us all the more grateful that FilmStruck is finally here, offering subscribers a thousand different ways to light up their lives.

Once a blockbuster staple, the power ballad was the ultimate movie accompaniment. We look back at some of the classics...
For a glorious period from the mid-80s throughout the 90s, the biggest summer blockbusters were only worth their salt if they had an equally gargantuan song at the head their soundtrack. Often the success of one was inexorably linked to the other, with the likes of Four Weddings And A Funeral's feats matched and even exceeded by Wet Wet Wet's accompanying Love Is All Around.
The greatest and most successful songs belong to the power ballad genre, and are as emotionally charged and forceful as the gods of epic balladry such as Journey, Whitesnake, Bon Jovi and Meat Loaf. As the 90s became the 00s and the charts became increasingly irrelevant, the movie ballad became almost defunct, with even the song-dominant film soundtrack being...

If you missed even a moment of Monday’s Dancing With the Stars, I have excellent news: ABC essentially replayed the entire thing on Tuesday night — and then added another full hour of footage.
It’s one thing for the competition series to stretch its performance shows to 120 minutes, when those are filled with actual content. But a two-hour results show, filled with video recaps and inane mini-concerts and endless footage of Bruno Tonioli shouting from behind the judges’ table — that’s just wrong.

Twenty One Pilots are taking the music industry by storm. Not only are they consistently in the top ten of the Billboard 200 chart week after week, but they’re straight up accomplishing things that no band has before – especially when it comes to their singles.
The rock act is making history on the charts this week with their songs “Ride” and “Heathens,” becoming the first band to reach number one on the Pop Songs chart and Alternative Songs chart simultaneously. Unlike the Hot 100 chart which is measured by radio play audience, sales data and streaming activity, the Pop and Alternative Songs charts are measured strictly by radio play. Basically, Twenty One Pilots are selling a ton of records, and they’re being played a lot on the radio.
Now, this isn’t the first time that a band has ruled the Pop and Alternative charts at the same time, but...

Blood, Sweat & 3 Years is the fourth studio album by Edm trio Cash Cash, and their first full length record on Atlantic Records and Big Beat Records after a string of EPs and singles. The new album’s title offers a little insight into its collection of songs, which reach back as early as three years ago. Though its not the most cohesive album around, Cash Cash’s latest offering has plenty of excellent tracks that all retain their signature brand of accessible dance pop.
Jam packed with sixteen songs, the music on Blood, Sweat & 3 Years is often better than the sum of its parts with a number of top notch productions holding the songs together. For their new album, Cash Cash enlisted the help of a vocal collaborator for nearly every track, hitting the studio with major talent like Nelly, Busta Rhymes and John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls.

At this point, it'd be a challenge to find a musician who isn't influenced by Prince in some way. His majestic voice, formidable guitar technique and songwriting sensibilities formed a repository of 20th century American music, and everyone from Patti Smith to Alicia Keys has seemingly acknowledged this influence with a cover. Let's take a look at some of the best. Alicia Keys, 'How Come You Don't Call Me' Included as the non-album B-side to a little 1982 single you may know called "1999" and originally called "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore" per the Prince style guide, this song was...

You know who they are - and they're back with a catchy new single! ""Iris" rockers the Goo Goo Dolls will release their eleventh full-length album, Boxes, this summer, and People has an exclusive first listen to its second single, "So Alive." A sunny, poppy departure from the alt-rockers' oft-moody canon, "So Alive" builds over a breezy piano melody and upbeat drum line. In his signature baritone rasp, vocalist Robby Takac sings an infectiously hopeful hook: "You can make it on a wish if you want to ... Breaking down the walls in my own mind, keeping my faith for the bad times / Get up,...

On Thursday, the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the dismissal of a long-lasting antitrust lawsuit against Live Nation. In 2009, It's My Party, Inc., which runs the famed outdoor venue Merriweather Post Pavilion in Maryland, sued the concert and promotion giant for allegedly wielding its national power to entice and coerce artists to appear only at local amphitheaters and other venues it owned and operated. The Voice is not typically known for tough criticism. "American Idol" is back for Season 14 and it's important to remind you: The last two winners have been Candice Glover and Caleb Johnson. For the past few years, the ability to make stars has been the thing "Idol" has used to set it apart from the higher-rated "Voice." It's not like the coronation of Phillip Phillips, an artist with probably more album sales than every "Voice" winner combined, was that long ago, but in a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately business, "Idol" could use another breakout soon. [Note that ratings were Way down for "The Voice" this past season, as the NBC singing competition appears to have peaked and be heading into the predictable slide that almost all competition shows eventually go into. While pundits love to talk trash about the decline in "Idol" ratings, folks were oddly silent about "The Voice" in the fall. Shrug.] Expect more declines for "Idol" this season, but a breakout, incandescent star might help. So let's get down to the business of recapping Wednesday (January 7) night's premiere! With Fox sending out screeners, the live-blog times line up with episode time-code and not with any time from a real clock. Oh and Thursday's (January 8) two-hour...

Steve Jablonsky would be among the millions excited about the opening of “Transformers: Age of Extinction” tomorrow if he weren’t so fatigued. “I barely know what day it is,” he says. Since last December, he has worked on the score for Michael Bay’s new “Transformers” film. He’s so tired, he’s not even sure how much music is in the film. “It’s about two hours of music,” he says. “We could figure it out, but we’re all too exhausted.” He has another algorithm: Working on one Michael Bay film is like “scoring two-and-a-half smaller films.” He finished the score in early June, mere days before the movie debuted in Hong Kong. “Some people have told me not to mention how last minute it was, but at the premiere, Michael stood up and said, ‘I finished this film 40 hours ago.’ This one was the craziest film of them all.

From “Radioactive” to “Demons” to “Battle Cry”: Imagine Dragons, known for its dramatic titles and music, has written a new song, “Battle Cry,” for “Transformers: Age of Extinction.” The latest in the Michael Bay-directed franchise—and the first in a new trilogy—comes out this summer and stars Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Nicola Peltz and the vocal talent of John Goodman and Ken Watanabe. The band, which snagged the Grammy for best rock performance in January, wrote the track after seeing early footage from the film, according to a press release. The song is interspersed through the movie. The band also working on the score with composer Steve Jablonsky, with additional assistance from Hans Zimmer. “I remember being drawn to the emotion of ’Demons’ and ’Radioactive’ the first time I heard those songs, and I knew I wanted that same energy and heart for this movie. They’ve created a really epic,...
