Is Tom Thornton in over his head? Jack Thornton’s younger brother (played by Max Lloyd-Jones) made an unexpected visit to Hope Valley in the May 19 episode of When Calls the Heart. The formerly wayward young man had an exciting proposition for Hope Valley’s choir. But his offer of fame and fortune proved too good to be true, as he discovered in the closing moments of “Facing the Music.”
In the May 26 installment of the Hallmark Channel drama, Tom has to deal with the fallout of the scheme he inadvertently got caught up in. Fortunately, he has two people on his side to help him sort out the mess: Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) and Nathan (Kevin McGarry).

When Calls the Heart focuses on second chances, which Sunday's episode centers around.
Spoilers for When Calls the Heart Season 11 Episode 8 hint that Tom returns to Hope Valley, anxious to make amends and still showcase the choir's talent.
Two other new arrivals showed up in Hope Valley, also hoping to clear the air and get a second chance. This should be a heartwarming episode.
After Tom learned in When Calls the Heart Season 11 Episode 7 that J.B. Sweeney cheated residents out of their money and skipped town, he was determined to make things right.
That won't be easy since the Hope Valley residents are bound to feel cheated out of their money and disappointed that they won't get to sing in the festival, especially Allie and Angela, who were extremely excited to be scouted.
Nathan and Elizabeth agree to help him host a choir festival right there in Hope Valley.

An old friend returned and swore he had changed.
When Tom Thornton returned on When Calls the Heart Season 11 Episode 7, he did so partly to visit his brother Jack's gravesite and partly to see Elizabeth.
He hadn't planned to scout the Hope Valley choir for an upcoming festival, but it was challenging to say no when several women ambushed him.
Being the younger brother, it was hard for Tom to return and hear what a legend Jack was and know so many of these people remembered his screw-ups from when he was younger.
That's why Tom wanted to prove himself with his new job and show that he could succeed working for someone famous like Jb Sweeney.
While Elizabeth wanted to believe in Tom, part of her was wary of getting the choir involved in one of his schemes, so she never brought it up.
However, two excited teenagers did,...

Quentin Dupieux returns with The Second Act, a playfully dour satire on the film industry that sees the French absurdist delve further into the apocalyptic mood and gallows humor of his recent Yannick. The Cannes opener stars some of the biggest names in the French film world as heightened versions of themselves: actors working on a film within the film (and perhaps a film within that), a conceit that allows them to break the fourth wall, basically winking at the audience conspiratorially while taking passing shots at themselves and some of the hands that feed them. It’s all in good fun, of course. It’s also quite inside baseball––not that that mattered at the premiere, though you do have to wonder how it might resonate going forward.

The stormy clouds outside the Palais might have dampened some spirits as the credits rolled on the opening night film of the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Or maybe it was the movie itself.
“The Second Act,” Quentin Dupieux’s talky French comedy about the making of the first movie directed by AI, mustered a lukewarm 3.5-minute standing ovation on Tuesday night in Cannes.
Dupieux attedned the premiere along with his French cast of Léa Seydoux, Louis Garrel, Vincent Lindon and Raphaël Quenard. The four actors all politely stood as a camera quickly passed by through the tepid applause.
In the meta film, these French stars play actors making a romantic comedy they know is pointless, as it’s the first movie written and directed by AI. In the opening scenes, we learn that Florence (Seydoux) wants to take things to the next level with David (Garrel), but he is no...

Cannes film festival
With help from an A-list cast, Dupieux brings his customary mischief to an amiable tale of imposture and role play
Cannes can always do worse than choose a comedy for its opening gala, and the festival is off to an amiable, entertaining start. Quentin Dupieux brings the wackiness onstream with this cheerfully mischievous, unrepentantly facetious fourth-wall-badgering sketch. It’s a sprightly meta gag, a movie about a movie, or perhaps a movie about a movie about a movie – or perhaps just a movie, full stop, whose point is to claim that reality as we experience it inside and outside the cinema is unitary despite the levels of imposture and role-play we bring to it. It is all just one unbroken skein of experience like the endless dolly-track (the temporary rail that lets the camera move smoothly) that Dupieux finally shows us.

Something has subtly shifted in Quentin Dupieux’s perspective, leaving the one-man-band of French cinema a rather different auteur than the anti-comedy punk that nearly stumbled onto the festival stage so many years ago. Chalk it up to maturity or to an impressive professional rise — reaching new highs this year with the opening slot at the Cannes Film Festival — but the director’s tone has softened and his targets have shifted, even as his working methods (and working ethic) remain set-in-stone.
Like a distant Gallic cousin to Wes Anderson and Hong Sang-soo (now there are two names you rarely see together), Dupieux has connected a distinctive voice into a well-honed system built for productivity, allowing him to write-direct-shoot-edit-and-score a new film every year. And sometimes, he finds time for two.

Et voilà, The Second Act, a bubbly apéritif to open this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and the latest bit of mischief from Quentin Dupieux, the Loki of the French cinematic universe. Dupieux turns out a film roughly once a year, featuring protagonists ranging from a rogue rubber tire cruising the highway for victims to a giant fly captured by a couple of petty crooks who try to turn it into a sideshow attraction. Each wacky new romp brings new fans into the tent and, on the evidence of his recent cast lists, entices more big-name actors to run away and join his circus.
So roll up here to see Bond girl Léa Seydoux, the baggy-eyed veteran Vincent Lindon and the usually smoldering Louis Garrel along with a troupe of faces familiar to Dupieux’s audience. The three of them play actors shooting what appears to be an especially banal rom-com.

In France, the concept of irony is referred to as “deuxième degré” (second degree), where the “premier degré” is the literal or surface meaning, which can be twisted as audiences read an entirely different, often contrary meaning into the material. But the game doesn’t necessarily stop there. There is also “troisième degré,” “quatrième degré” and so on, as deep as you want to go.
For absurdist trickster Quentin Dupieux (whose films “Deerskin” and “Rubber” have found a cult following), “The Second Act” presents a frivolous fun-house mirror, in which actors Léa Seydoux, Louis Garrel, Vincent Lindon and Raphaël Quenard play actors playing actors in a pointless romantic comedy. They all know they’re making a bad movie, and one by one, they keep interrupting the shoot to air their personal grievances. But that’s only the beginning in a slender meta-textual doodle selected to kick off the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.

Cameras are still rolling on Thunderbolts* in Atlanta, and while we're hoping some revealing set photos are imminent (a first look at The Sentry would be nice), JustJared.com has just shared a couple of new hi-res shots of Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes.
The former Winter Soldier once again has long hair and is rocking a goatee which, while by no means a drastic change, has generated plenty of discussion among fans on social media.
Look closely and you'll spot a crew member carrying a glove Stan will wear to portray Bucky's cybernetic arm! Having a suit on means he doesn't have to don a full sleeve, something we're sure the actor is grateful for. We also see Geraldine Viswanathan's mystery character.
As for what Bucky is up to, we've done some digging, and it sounds like he's attending a court hearing. Interestingly, Julia Louis-Dreyfus's CIA Director...

It's always exciting when a series revisits old characters and storylines.
On When Calls the Heart, Season 11 Episode 6, Thomas Higgins, Elizabeth's old foe and the Superintendent of the School Board, returns to cause trouble.
According to the weekly promo and the photos, he seems even more determined to destroy her career and reputation than he was before.
Thomas Higgins last appeared in When Calls the Heart Season 4 Episode 11 when he wrote a letter that caused Elizabeth to get fired. He only wrote it because she turned him down and sexually harassed her again, hinting he would make it disappear if she dated him.
Elizabeth found proof that he had sexually harassed other teachers, too, and was reinstated, so Higgens likely carries a massive grudge against her.
It's a shame we couldn't bring back Landis instead. While initially set in his ways about how the Valley School District should be run,...

This light crime series from France, “The Art of Crime,” provides the usual elements of TV mysteries with a painless education in the meanings of classic paintings and personalized art history. Don’t yawn yet. Keep reading a bit further.
The Paris police have a special unit for art-related crimes. Antoine (Nicolas Gob) is assigned to it as a banishment from the serious crime squad he’d thrived on until he pissed off the wrong honcho. His complete lack of knowledge about or interest in this milieu makes the transfer even more punitive. He’s also forced to accept a partnership with a quirky consultant, Florence (Eleonore Bernheim), whose expertise in the Old Masters is essential to catching the offenders. Each case is handled in two 50-minute episodes, so no pressure to binge.

Dave Bautista has excelled in his acting career, to say the least. He is one of those entertainers who made a switch from bodybuilding/WWE to acting and absolutely nailed it. In the British teen dramedy Boarders, five Black students of great intelligence, but modest means, are given scholarships to the elite private school St. Gilbert’s. Their presence has little to do with altruism, and a lot to do with the school’s PR problem, after a rich white student posts a video of himself and his friends harassing an unhoused man. Gus (played by Daniel Lawrence Taylor, who also created the series) runs the charity that helped select the five lucky kids, and while all of them are aware...

A good high-school or college TV show is like a time machine, designed to transport nostalgic older viewers backward to youth or (more rarely) younger viewers forward to an anticipated maturity. At the same time, it’s a sufficiently codified genre that the nostalgia is as much for other fictional favorites in the same narrative space as it is for any “real” experience of high school or college.
A well-cast high-school or college TV show is a time machine on yet another level, enjoyable in its immediacy but also a preview for decades of future ensembles. Even if the breakouts from a Freaks and Geeks or Sex Education or Dear White People aren’t always the stars you’d expect, one needn’t watch more than a scene or two to know how well-populated those shows are.

Jacqueline West searched far and wide to bring the expansive world of Denis Villeneueve’s “Dune: Part Two” to life. The seasoned artisan recruited the help of locals in Budapest and jewelry makers in the Middle East to tell a visual story through costume, particularly with the female characters in the film. She also looked to the past, finding inspiration in 1920s Tiffany jewelry, Balenciaga and even the haute couture renaissance of the 1950s.
The sequel builds upon the worlds of Arrakis and Giedi Prime, but also introduces Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, a Bene Gesserit and the daughter of the Emperor (Christopher Walken). Lea Seydoux, also playing a Bene Gesserit, appears as a mysterious woman drawn into the Harkonnen world. The addition of Pugh and Seydoux gave West a chance to expand the looks she had created in the first film.

While Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides immediately knew he would love Zendaya’s Chani ‘as long as he breathes’, the actor has had quite a history when it comes to finding love in real life. The Dune star has had quite a dating history ever since he broke into the scene with films like Interstellar and Call Me By Your Name.
While Chalamet has been dating Kylie Jenner for the past few months, he was in a highly publicized relationship with The Idol star Lily-Rose Depp. The couple had reportedly met while filming Netflix’s The King and had gotten cozy as early as 2018. One of the defining moments of their courtship was a viral photo of the two making out on a yacht, which Chalamet seems to be embarrassed about.

Florence Pugh says the 'Dune: Part Two' memorial space felt "haunting".One of the filming locations in Denis Villeneuve's second film in his big-screen adaptation of the 1965 novels by Frank Herbert was the Brion Tomb in San Vito d'Altivole near Treviso, Italy, which is the burial ground of the Brion family, and Florence said there was an eerie atmosphere there.Asked about it being the first time a movie has been allowed to film there, she told SFX magazine: "I didn't break anything, thank god! It's a huge privilege to work with crew members that are unbelievably dedicated to their craft, and I think especially on Dune, the attention to detail with locations and sets, it's just mind-blowing - it really transports you every time you come to set. And that was my first day of shooting!"We shot in that memorial space. It really is a very haunting space.

Denis Villeneuve assembled one heck of a cast for "Dune," and that ensemble is only growing in the upcoming "Dune: Part Two." Several big stars are on board, including Florence Pugh ("Midsommar"), Austin Butler ("Elvis"), and Christopher Walken ("Catch Me If You Can"). Crucially, some of the biggest additions to the cast are younger stars, who join Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya on that front. Casting the next generation of superstars was no mistake, and it was something the director did very deliberately, in part because he believes those actors can help bring people back to theaters.
Pugh, Butler, Chalamet, and Zendaya are all firmly on Hollywood's A-list. But they're also some of only a small handful of stars under the age of 50 that general audiences will pay to see in a movie just because they're in it. In a piece last year in Time about Pugh and her rise to fame,...

"Everyone makes mistakes... Let go of that ball of anger that's holding you back..." Dark Star Pictures has revealed the US trailer for a sapphic indie film titled Silver Haze, from a Dutch filmmaker named Sacha Polak, though it takes place in England following a young woman who lives in East London. The title is also the name of a famous marijuana strain, which some of you might recognize. Franky works a nurse and lives in an East London borough. ABC has set Chelsea Handler and Marla Gibbs to guest star in Episode 7 of “Not Dead Yet” Season 2.
“Not Dead Yet” stars Gina Rodriguez as Nell, a journalist who takes a job writing obituaries at the SoCal Independent and soon gains the ability to see and speak to ghosts. The episode featuring Handler and Gibbs, which airs in late March, sees Lexi (Lauren Ash) and Duncan (Brad Garrett) spend a weird version of quality time at the newspaper’s softball game.
Handler will play Sharon Darynson, the owner of the rival news station to the SoCal Independent and the long-time nemesis to Duncan Rhoades (Brad Garrett). While everyone else runs in fear of Duncan, Sharon refuses to be intimidated by him.
Gibbs — the mother of Angela E. Gibbs, who stars in “Not Dead Yet” as Cricket — will play Cricket’s mother, Nana Sugar, who becomes one of Nell’s (Gina Rodriguez) obituary subjects.
