Anne Heche died in August 2022 following a fiery car accident. The starlet’s crash, which occurred before noon on Aug. 5, 2022, destroyed a home, caused a fire, and left firefighters battling for nearly an hour to free Heche from the wreckage. Heche remained hospitalized following the crash before ultimately succumbing to her injuries. Months after her death, an official toxicology report revealed whether or not Heche was driving under the influence.
Anne Heche’s car accident was not caused by the use of illegal substances
Inhalation and thermal injuries were cited as Heche’s official cause of death. That cause was released to the public in mid-August, less than two weeks after the crash. Despite the release of some information, toxicology reports were still pending. Because of the speed at which Heche was traveling and comments made on her podcast, theories that she was under the influence at the time of the crash circulated the internet.

Heche shares Atlas with James Tupper, who tells the publication, “Anne and I were together for more than a decade, we have a beautiful son together and in that time, she was the very definition of light in our lives, always bringing fun, love and energy.

Fans are getting their first look at Anne Heche‘s posthumous memoir. Five months after the actress died following a fiery car crash, the first excerpt from her second memoir has been released.
In Call Me Anne, the follow-up to her 2001 book, Call Me Crazy, Heche writes about her romance with Ellen DeGeneres.
“In 1997, I began a relationship with Ellen DeGeneres and was on the set of my first starring role in a big-budget movie, Six Days, Seven Nights,” Heche writes in an excerpt obtained by People. “I was called into my costar Harrison Ford’s trailer one lunch break within the first week of shooting. I was met with the sight of director Ivan Reitman and Harrison sitting on one of two white pleather sofas.”
“I hesitantly sat on the opposite white pleather sofa. They had seen the evening news. Rumors were reported that Ellen and I were pregnant.

The woman in the home into which Anne Heche fatally drove her car is suing the late actress’ estate for 2 million.
Heche drove her car into a Mar Vista home in Los Angeles on August 5. The car caught fire and “heavily damaged” the house, according to Los Angeles Fire Department representative Brian Humphrey. Heche later died August 12 after being taken off of life support while in a coma.
Now, Lynne Mishele is suing the Heche estate. Michele, who was renting the Mar Vista home at the time of the crash, is seeking “at least 2 million” in damages for negligence, infliction of emotional distress, and trespass. James Tupper is accusing Homer Laffoon of mistreating Atlas Tupper. Days after Anne Heche‘s eldest son asked the court to “expand his authority” over his late mom’s estate, James fired back in court docs, which were obtained by Et.
Anne, who died in August after a fiery car crash, shared Homer, 20, with Coley Laffoon, and his 13-year-old half-brother, Atlas, with James.
In James’ latest court docs, he claims that Homer “has acted in a hostile manner” toward Atlas and has “refused to communicate with him or his representatives at all” since Anne’s death. James further alleges that Atlas “has no confidence in [Homer’s] ability to meet his fiduciary obligations to Atlas.”
James also takes issue with Homer’s request for the “inadequate” 800,000 bond, instead requesting that Homer “be required to post bond of at least 2,000,000 rather than 800,000 until sufficient detail is provided via a full inventory and appraisal...

Anne Heche‘s son, Homer Heche Laffoon, is requesting to “expand his authority” over his late mother’s estate. According to court documents obtained by Et, Homer, 20, filed an ex-parte application with the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles County Thursday, to expand his authority as special administrator of the estate.
Per the docs, Homer asserts that this expansion of authority is “necessary” because the “tangible personal property of the estate” located in Heche’s apartment needs to be moved as soon as possible in order to “avoid additional fees, costs and possible loss to the estate.”
Homer also claims that there are numerous checks that were made payable to the Six Days, Seven Nights actress that need to be negotiated, endorsed and deposited into a bank account in the name of the estate as soon as possible, so that the checks are not voided.

While there hasn’t been an official legal conclusion to the court tussle over Anne Heche’s estate, the mood on Tuesday seemed to mostly be in favor of Homer Laffoon, the 20-year-old son of Heche and Coleman Laffoon.
James Tupper, who was in a relationship with Heche from 2007-2018 and had 13-year old son Atlas with her, made a legal attempt to gain control of the estate over Laffoon, but that probably won’t succeed given the Judge’s language on Tuesday. Tupper had claimed that Heche gave him control over her estate in an email, and also accused Laffoon of not communicating with him and Atlas properly.
Judge Lee Bogdanoff didn’t have much patience for Tupper and his attorney’s arguments in this court session, which was mostly set to organize when Tupper and Atlas can have access to Heche’s apartment to retrieve belongings.

The battle for control over Anne Heche‘s estate gained some focus on Tuesday when the judge ruled at her estate hearing that her eldest son, Homer Heche Laffoon, can oversee the estate for now.
The ruling comes less than a week after Homer filed legal documents, obtained by Et, claiming the “Six Days, Seven Nights” star had only 400,000 to her name at the time of her death. Those same docs state that Heche lived in an apartment and that she did not own any property.
The documents also state that Heche was working on a book titled Call Me Anne, which “is still on track to be released in early 2023.” Back in September, the book’s publisher and distributor — Viva Editions and Simon & Schuster — announced the 140-page memoir will be released Jan. 24, 2023.

In the docs, Tupper states Atlas “has no guardian of his estate” and that he is Atlas’ father and “only living parent.” What’s more, Tupper says he “loves both Homer and Atlas as a father and wants the best for them both.” And “in order to preserve family harmony and a healthy, brotherly relationship between Atlas and Homer, and given the complexity this estate will foreseeably involve, a bonded, neutral, private professional fiduciary would be a more appropriate administrator.”

In the wake of Anne Heche’s death, the legal battle between her son and her ex-husband over control of her estate is heating up.

Following the tragic death of the actress Anne Heche who died from crashing her car into a Los Angeles house, an ex-boyfriend and her 20-year-old son are now on opposite sides of an estate battle.
Heche died without a will, and control of her estate has been passed along to Homer Laffoon, 20, who is Heche’s only child with her ex-husband Coleman Laffoon, whom she divorced in 2009. Laffoon apparently filed the request.
However, another ex of Heche, James Tupper, who was married to the actress for most of the 2010s until 2018, claims she left him control of her estate in an email. The court ruled in favor of Laffoon earlier this month, but Tupper could still challenge it.

In a new legal filing obtained by Et, James Tupper — Anne’s ex and the father of her 13-year-old son, Atlas Heche Tupper — objects to a request from Anne’s eldest son, 20-year-old Homer Heche Laffoon — whom Anne shared with her ex-husband Coley Laffoon — to be placed in charge of her estate.
James asks the court instead to appoint a neutral third party private professional fiduciary or, alternately, himself as executor of her estate.
In the new docs, filed Thursday in Los Angeles, James claims that Anne made her intentions clear in a personal email on Jan. 25, 2011, with the subject line “Will,” saying that: “In case I die tomorrow and anyone asks. My wishes are that all of my assets go to the control of Mr. James Tupper to be...

Late film star Anne Heche, who died in August 2022 at age 53, spent the last year of her life penning a new memoir, “Call Me Anne.”
A follow-up to her 2001 book “Call Me Crazy,” the memoir will be released by Start Publishing in January 2023. An excerpt from the upcoming memoir includes Heche discussing her relationship with Ellen DeGeneres, whom she dated in the late 1990s.
“I was labeled ‘outrageous’ because I fell in love with a woman. I had never been with a woman before I dated Ellen,” Heche wrote. She added that she was effectively blacklisted in Hollywood due to the fact that she was part of one of the few openly-gay relationships in the industry.
Jarred Weisfeld, the independent book publisher behind Hoboken, New Jersey-based company Start, confirmed that he signed a deal with Heche in May 2022 and that she had turned in a manuscript for the memoir shortly before her death.

A resurfaced podcast episode from 2021 revealed that Anne Heche once warned Portia de Rossi not to pursue a relationship with Ellen DeGeneres.
Heche, who tragically passed away last week at the age of 53, had previously dated Ellen from 1997-2000.
In a resurfaced episode of her podcast, Better Together, she revealed to her co-host Heather Duffy that Portia thought dating Ellen would make her a “poster child” for a gay relationship.
Ellen publicly came out in 1997, famously on an episode of her sitcom at the time and with a Time Magazine cover that read, “Yep, I’m Gay.” Ellen was dating Anne at the time of the public reveal.
However, Anne claimed she stepped in to tell Portia that the “poster child” position had already been filled.

Anne Heche, star of “Six Days, Seven Nights” and Emmy winner for the NBC soap opera “Another World,” has “been peacefully taken off life support,” a spokesperson for the family said in a brief statement Sunday night. Her desire to donate her organs is being fulfilled, as matches have been found. She was 53.
The announcement came nine days after Heche crashed her Mini Cooper into an L.A. apartment complex garage, sped away when residents tried to help and then crashed into a nearby home, setting off a destructive fire that required a dramatic rescue and landed the actress in the hospital with severe burns. No one else was hurt, though the homeowner was in the backyard and later said she had been mildly injured.
Late last week, TMZ reported that she was brain-dead, which is legally considered dead in California. A rep for Heche confirmed to TheWrap that she had no brain function.

Actress Anne Heche has filed a request to change child custody arrangements between herself and estranged husband Coley Laffoon. At present, the Volcano star must give her ex two weeks' notice when she plans to spend time with their five-year-old son, Homer. But Heche wants to change that, and instead be required to give a fortnight's notice if she doesn't plan to see the child, according to court documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday. She contends, "Occasionally I have breaks in my work schedule that would permit me to travel to Los Angeles for up to four days. I request an order that when one of these breaks occurs, I may spend the time with Homer in Los Angeles on seven days advance notice to Coley. I never have more than seven days advance notice of such breaks and therefore cannot give more notice." Heche is currently shooting the second season of TV series Men In Trees in Vancouver, Canada. During Wednesday's hearing, Laffoon agreed to move out of the Los Angeles home the couple once shared by September 2. Heche has been granted joint legal custody of her son and will spend every other weekend with Homer when she's in Los Angeles, where the youngster attends school. Heche was also ordered to pay $15,000-a-month in child and spousal support - and pay for 90 per cent of the cost of Homer's private-school tuition, medical bills and extracurricular activities.

Anne Heche's estranged husband Coley Laffoon has accused the actress of resorting to lies to win custody of their five year old son Homer. Laffoon filed papers yesterday at Los Angeles Superior Court which refuted Heche's claims she had a close relationship with her son - calling her statements "replete with blatant falsehoods." Court papers claim, "(Heche's) credibility should also be called into question as a result of her mental instability which was highly publicized in her 2001 autobiography entitled Call Me Crazy." Heche had accused Laffoon of frequenting strip clubs, playing poker and ping-pong and watching online porn while they were together. However, he hits back in the documents, claiming, "(Heche is) desperately trying to throw mud against the wall hoping that something will divert the eyes of the Court away from the true facts of this case. The truth is that Heche loves to play poker, too," adding, "I have never been preoccupied with sexually graphic material...(Heche) and I occasionally watched porn when we were together." He also claimed the last time he went to a strip club was with Heche and her Men In Trees co-star James Tupper and his wife. The filing also states, "I did not know at that time that (Heche) was having an affair with James, nor did James' wife." Laffoon filed for divorce in February after Heche's romance with Tupper hit the headlines.

Anne Heche is fighting to terminate an agreement to award spousal support to estranged husband Coley Laffoon after the cameraman questioned the actress' mothering skills. In court papers filed last week, Heche asked for legal custody of the couple's five-year-old son Homer and wants to terminate the court's jurisdiction to award her ex a pay-out. In the documents, Heche declares, "In his papers, filed with the court, Coley makes numerous false allegations about his own parenting skills and fitness as well as about mine. It is unfortunate that Coley chose to put his lies and distortions in the public record at this time while we are trying to reach an agreement on many of the issues. I am surprised and disappointed that Coley is stooping to this level. My hope was (and is) that our son Homer will come through this with what is best for him - two parents who love him and who treat each other with respect." In the newly-filed papers, Heche also claims her estranged hubby watches porn, plays poker, and visits strippers instead of spending time with their son. Heche, 37, split from her husband of five years Coleman Laffoon earlier this month, and she has been linked to Tupper in the US media ever since. The 37-year-old admitted she has "chemistry" with Tupper on TV show Entertainment Tonight Sunday. She said, "We have a beautiful relationship. I think people like to read a lot into the chemistry we have on the show, and I think it's fantastic. We have a lot of chemistry. We love each other, we're like a family here, we all go out on the weekends. I'm obviously going through something personal in my life, and I don't know what is going to happen in the future." A spokesperson for Tupper confirms he split from his wife Kate in November last year.
