WikiLeaks founder to judge films at the 21st Raindance Film Festival; 2013 line-up unveiled.Scroll down for full line-up of films
Julian Assange has joined the jury of the 21st Raindance Film Festival (Sept 25 - Oct 6), a London-based event that celebrates independent film in the UK and around the world.
The appointment is a controversial one. The Australian editor-in-chief and founder of WikiLeaks took refuge in the Ecuadorean embassy in London in June 2012 to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he is wanted for questioning about sexual assault allegations.
It is understood that he fears Sweden would extradite him to the Us, where he believes he is wanted in relation to WikiLeaks’ disclosure of a significant amount of classified Us military and diplomatic documents.
Commenting on Assange’s appointment, Raindance founder Elliot Grove said: “Every year Raindance invites interesting people to join our jury. In the past we have had musicians like Mick Jones, Marky Ramone and [link...

Waylon Bacon is going home again. Bacon, a graduate of Albany High School, will be showing his latest demented masterpiece, Help Wanted, and participating in a post-screening Q&A at the 2nd annual Albany Film Festival, which takes place on March 3.
Help Wanted is a horror comedy about the world’s worst job: Processing the dead victims of hit men and other hired killers. It’s a sick, twisted and absolutely hilarious epic short film. Bad Lit: The Journal of Underground Film reviewed it back in 2010, calling it “funny and frightening.”
Joining Bacon on-stage will be filmmaker Hoku Uchiyama, another Albany High grad, with his own short film, Rose, a rural American ghost story.
The Albany Film Festival is screening primarily short films from Noon to 8:00 p.m., kicking things off with the absolutely charming The Squash by Bobby Young.
However, there will be two special feature films on hand.

Why Watch? You’d be amazed what you can do with the frost on some store windows. This jaunty short directed by Hoku Uchiyama features a catchy throwback 20s tune and finger-drawn animation from the Betty Boop era that comes alive on panes of glass as live-action strangers walk by. More a curiosity than a story, it still features some dark comedy that’s strangely perfect for Dia de los Muertos. It’s a witty toe-tapper of a short film that pulls off a crazy, creative idea with flawless, smile-inducing execution. Long story short? It’s just a hell of a lot of fun. What does it cost? Just 3 minutes of your time. Check out Have You Seen My Sister Evelyn for yourself: Have You Seen My Sister Evelyn (2011) Trust us. You have time for more short films. And now, for you other filmmakers out there, a word from our sponsor:...
