"I don't care what he is. We need to get him under control." Signature Ent. has revealed the first official UK trailer for the action adventure superpowers movie Mortal, the latest from accclaimed Norwegian horror filmmaker André Øvredal. Described as "Chronicle meets X-Men meets Thor," this "origin story" is about a young man, Eric, who discovers he has God-like powers based on ancient Norwegian mythology. Nat Wolff stars along with Iben Akerlie as Christine, a young psychologist trying to figure out what really happened when the authorities go after him. They both end up on the run, and Eric finally figures out who, or what exactly, he really is. The cast includes Priyanka Bose, Arthur Hakalahti, Anna Sedunova, and Per Egil Aske. This looks like Norway is trying (again) to reclaim its mythological heroes (mainly Thor) for its own tourism-as-cinema storytelling. Every shot looks gorgeous! Because Norway is gorgeous! Is...

“Courtroom Hijinks”
By Raymond Benson
The 1948 courtroom drama, I, Jane Doe, directed by John H. Auer and starring the inimitable Ruth Hussey as a defense attorney who displays feminist tendencies before that word was in the public vernacular, is a well-acted, twisty-plotted, and entertaining B-movie flick from second-string studio Republic Pictures—except for one thing… the trial and all the aspects associated with it is absolute nonsense.
It’s as if screenwriter Lawrence Kimble made up a courtroom drama based on what he’d seen from other movies of that ilk without ever studying the law as it applies to a trial. In no way would our heroine, Eve Meredith Curtis (Hussey), be able to insist on a retrial of a convicted murderer on the basis that Ms. Doe had refused to reveal her real name or present a defense for herself in the first trial.

Justin Bieber has filed a $20 million defamation lawsuit against two anonymous Twitter users who accused the singer of sexual assault.
The lawsuit refers to the women as Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2, who tweeted using the names Danielle and Kadi. Danielle tweeted that Bieber sexually assaulted her on March 9, 2014, in a Four Seasons Hotel room in Austin, TX. Kadi made a similar accusation about an incident she says took place at the Langham Hotel in NYC on May 5, 2015.
Bieber adamantly denied the accusations earlier this week in a series of tweets, writing, “Rumors are rumors but sexual abuse is something I don’t take lightly. I wanted to speak out right away but out of respect to so many victims who deal with these issues daily I wanted to make sure I gathered the facts before I made any statement.”

In the first trailer for the explosive #MeToo documentary “On The Record,” Drew Dixon talks about how she found the strength to publicly accuse hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons of sexual assault and how enduring that attack made her feel like she was “reduced to nothing.”
“I didn’t say anything about what happened with Russell. He just grabbed me. He just grabbed me. And on saying no, I was reduced to nothing in that moment,” Dixon says in the trailer. “Nothing about anything that makes me who I am mattered.”

The Good Doctor depicts autism better than almost any show currently on TV.
But when it gets it wrong, it gets it way wrong.
The Good Doctor Season 3 Episode 16 was one of those times. For the second episode in a row, everyone tried to tell Shaun what he felt, and the implication that he doesn't know his own feelings was annoying.
Let's get this straight right now: autism isn't about having no clue what your emotional state is.
Many people with autism feel overwhelmed both by their emotions and by other people's and shut down, but more often than not, they know what they're feeling.
I don't think this is about you losing a patient. I think this is you distracting yourself. You don't want to let Jane go because you don't want to let Carly go.

Last year, this writer was thrilled to have the opportunity to speak with one of my long-time favorite actresses, Juliette Lewis, for Ma (you can read that interview Here). So, when I was asked to chat with her again for the second season of the Facebook Watch series, Sacred Lies: The Singing Bones, I jumped at the chance. During the interview, Lewis discussed the initial appeal of the project and how she connected with her character, Harper, a woman tirelessly working to identify the unnamed women who have died, and the only legacy they leave behind is being known as a “Jane Doe.”
Lewis also talked about the collaborative process she experienced on Sacred Lies with showrunner Raelle Tucker and the various directors for each episode, how much she enjoyed working with her co-star Jordan Alexander, and more.
From Blumhouse Television, Sacred Lies: The Singing Bones kicks off today, exclusively on Facebook Watch.

Good horror movies aren’t always easy to scare up, but with Halloween on the horizon, Variety has compiled a list of some of the best horror films available on Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu.

Cult horror meets religious hypocrisy in this creepy gothic thriller, which follows prodigal son Thomas Richardson, who returns home to find that his sister is being held for ransom by a religious cult. But after traveling to the organization’s isolated island and infiltrating its tight-knit community, he discovers that his missing sister may be the least of his problems.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe
Morgues are a commonality in the horror genre, but rarely is a horror film set almost entirely in one. “The Autopsy of Jane Doe” capitalizes on its claustrophobic environment with some truly terrifying scares as father-son duo Tommy and Austin investigate an unidentified, dead — or is she? — woman.

An anonymous former Apa employee said in a lawsuit Wednesday that she suffered a “toxic, pervasive and sexually abusive environment” at the agency, and was fired in retaliation after she complained. The agency said in a statement that it had already investigated her claims and found them to be false, and accused her of an extortion attempt.
The lawsuit, filed under the name Jane Doe, said two high-ranking executives subjected her to unwanted sexual comments and overtures, and that she was sexually assaulted by a producer who was an Apa client in July 2017. She said that when she reported to top executives that she was assaulted, they warned her that she would be fired if she went to police.
In a statement to TheWrap, an Apa spokesperson said an investigation of Doe’s claims had found that she falsified texts and emails as part of a shakedown.

Unexpectedly, the initiative proved popular internationally, with filmmakers from all corners of the globe submitting their film and television scripts. A third of submissions came from female screenwriters, and of the top 25 finalists, over a third were written by women.
Continuance Pictures was founded by Tristan Barr and David Gim, who have hopes that the short film initiative will result in more than 50 shorts over five years.
“Having filmmakers from a variety of backgrounds provides our development department with engaging stories and endless entertainment,” Barr says.

A former agent and assistant to Apa chief Jim Gosnell has sued the agency and four individuals, including Gosnell, for sexual harassment and battery, wrongful termination and other alleged misconduct.
The plaintiff, identified in court papers only as Jane Doe, filed the suit Wednesday in La Superior Court (read it Here). She says her career plans were derailed by a series of actions by the agency. Her “dream of becoming a well-respected talent agent was quickly and cruelly dashed before it could even truly begin by a toxic, pervasive and sexually abusive environment fomented by the senior management at one of the nation’s leading talent agencies,” the complaint alleges.
The suit names Gosnell, Hammond and Apa employees Paul Santana and Josh Humiston. Immediately after her hiring in 2015, through her exit last August, the plaintiff says she was subjected to sexual advances by employees at the “apex” of the agency’s hierarchy.

New court filings in former “Fuller House” creator Jeff Franklin’s lawsuit against his former co-executive producer contend that Franklin made frequent sexist comments, including urging female writers to bring their bikinis to a writers’ retreat at his mansion and wishing women on staff would get hysterectomies to avoid pregnancy.
Franklin, who created “Full House” in the ’90s and the Netflix reboot “Fuller House,” was fired from his job as showrunner of the series in 2018 following complaints about inappropriate behavior. Bryan Behar took over Franklin’s job, and Franklin sued Behar in April, saying Behar had conspired against him to steal the job.
Franklin’s attorneys did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday. But in an April 16 complaint, they said that “Behar was resentful of Franklin’s success.”

“It was a wonderful place where you could go to die — but it doesn’t take away from the fact that they died.” This is how one interviewee describes 5B, the trailblazing San Francisco hospital ward that pioneered a more humane method of nursing AIDS sufferers during the epidemic’s paranoid 1980s zenith, affording terminal patients the care, understanding and even affection often denied them in a bigoted outside world. It’s a quote that sums up the approach of Dan Krauss and Paul Haggis’s straight-for-the-tear-ducts documentary “5B,” which seeks first-hand inspiration and optimism amid the wreckage of an unavoidably bleak chapter in recent American history. Interviewing nurses, survivors and even one of the ward’s most viciously homophobic detractors to evoke the frenzied us-against-them mentality that once defined a now-manageable disease, it’s conventional, occasionally maudlin docmaking that nonetheless grips the heart exactly when it needs to.

NBC’s formerly-thriving thriller, Blindspot, lands a fifth and final season at NBC.
Blindspot, NBC's inventive crime drama, appeared to be on the verge of solving its last tattoo case. – At least, that’s what the network's recent move of pulling the show from its schedule signalled. However, in a surprising development, NBC has ordered a fifth season of Blindspot, which will serve as its last.
While NBC's confirmed renewal of Blindspot Season 5 did not come with confirmation of its number of episodes, the belief amongst the trades is that the final season will manifest with 13 or less episodes. While the move means that Blindspot is officially on borrowed time, it is, nevertheless a miraculous renewal, given the show's recent travails. As creator Martin Gero lauds of the pickup in an Instagram post, along with a teaser trailer for the final season:

It sounded like a screenplay the moment the feds unsealed the indictments, and now HBO Documentary Films is producing a docuseries exploring the NXIVM organization. That’s the name of the ersatz self-improvement group with which Smallville alumna Allison Mack was involved. She recently pleaded guilty to racketeering charges of sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy and forced labor conspiracy in the case.
Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated driectors Jehane Noujaim and Karim Amer are helming the untitled series, which will follow a range of people who joined the group. NXIVM has been under siege, with serious federal charges brought against its highest members including founder Keith Raniere. The program will take a deep, nuanced look at experiences of its members, spotlighting their universal desire for personal growth, HBO said.
Noujaim’s interest in the subject began in 2010 when she took NXIVM's introductory “Executive Success Program” workshop.

Smallville alumna Allison Mack has changed her plea to guilty in the wild sex-cult case. She originally had pleaded not guilty on racketeering charges of sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy and forced labor conspiracy.
Mack, who played Chloe Sullivan for 10 seasons on the Superman TV series, was indicted a year ago along with Keith Raniere, the alleged leader of a self-help program and purported pyramid scheme that federal prosecutors say included operating a shadow society of female “slaves.”
According to prosecutors, Mack is credited in publicly available materials with co-creating a program called The Source, which recruited actors. Read the sometimes-graphic details from the Justice Department about the case below.
