Roger Horchow, a Cincinnati-born entrepreneur who parlayed a luxury mail-order fortune into a Tony Award-winning streak as a producer on Broadway, died Saturday in Dallas of cancer. He was 91.
The founder in 1971 of he Horchow Collection luxury mail-order catalog, Horchow sold the company to Neiman Marcus in 1988, and by 1992 had won his first Tony Award as producer of Crazy For You, a “new” George Gershwin musical inspired by 1930’s Girl Crazy. Directed by Mike Ockrent and choreographed by Ockrent’s future wife Susan Stroman, Crazy For You was a smash, garnering awards and audiences enthralled by its classic Gershwin score and refreshingly contemporary style.
Six years later Horchow and co-producer Roger Berlind mounted a revival of Cole Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate, starring Marin Mazzie, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Michael Berresse. It, too, was a hit, winning the Tony for Best Musical Revival.

To many, she’s a myth, not a person, so we must ask the age-old question: How does one choose a favorite version of Cher? Luckily for her fans, with The Cher Show — the new bio-musical that’s now on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre — they don’t have to.
We have shy 16-year-old Cherilyn Sarkisian; grown-up “goddess warrior” Cher; Sonny’s Cher; maneater Cher; victim Cher; and when all else fails, we always have don’t-give-a-fuck Cher. And to accessorize all that, there’s a plethora of wigs,...

Believing in life after love turns out to be a surer bet than pinning your hopes on jukebox musicals, no matter how fabulous the subject. The Cher Show, opening tonight at Broadway’s Neil Simon Theatre, might not disappoint anyone likely to applaud a Bob Mackie-designed Oscar gown, but neither does it do any boundary-pushing. So very un-Cher.
With a pedigree promising much, much more – book by Rick Elice, direction by Jason Moore (Avenue Q), costumes by Mackie and the involvement of the diva herself as producer – The Cher Show doesn’t budge outside lines already drawn for other mediocre bio-musicals, dragging Cher where Donna Summer, Gloria Estefan and even Janis Joplin have already been. The lack of creative ambition and innovation is dispiriting, especially when Jersey Boys, Beautiful and Lazarus have already proven these things needn’t be dreadful.

A new Broadway season is gearing up, and there are currently three productions of musicals (all new) set to open this fall. Could we be seeing any of them contend at next year’s Tony Awards? Below, we recap the plot of each musical as well as the awards history of its author, cast and creative types and the opening and (where applicable) closing dates.
“King Kong” (previews begin October 5; opens November 8)
In this musical adaptation of Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack’s classic 1933 film of the same name, an ambitious young actress and a maverick filmmaker voyage from the bustling streets of 1930s New York to an uncharted island to capture the greatest wonder the world has ever seen. At the center of this 21st-century reimagining: a 2,000-pound, 20-story gorilla, and the woman who risks everything to help him.

The huge entertainment in the show is provided by the three women portraying Cher in different life eras… Babe (Micaela Diamond), Lady (Teal Wicks) and Star (Stephanie J. Block). All have transcendent talent, because they transcend the fragmented and overstuffed story with their singing, dancing and performance chops. In what must be a whirlwind of a show for the three, they interact throughout and ponder Cher like the ghosts of “A Christmas Carol,” but with much more show biz and sex appeal.

With Title Of Show receiving mostly glowing reviews for its London premiere, I couldn't help but hope that the creative team that took the quirky, meta-musical from Off-Off-Broadway, to Off-Broadway, to Broadway Jeff Bowen, Hunter Bell, Susan Blackwell, Heidi Blickenstaff, Michael Berresse, and Larry Pressgrove are taking a few moments to arrive at the intersection of Now not the past or future, Here exactly where they are, and This whatever it is they're doing to be truly present and enjoy this moment of their lives a little more clearly. All of this brought me around to the cast album for their sophomore show Now. Here. This., which was funded by a highly successful Kickstarter campaign. Living in Houston, I completely missed the premiere of this show however, everything that made Title Of Show so endearing is present and improved upon in the semi-autobiographical musical's cast album that is as entertaining...

Q: I am obsessed with Davis Mallory from The Real World: Denver. In the newest Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Duel 2, Davis and Ryan Kehoe hit it off in the first episode. I was wondering if they are still a couple after the show finished production. Also what happened to P.J. who was Davis's boyfriend on The Real World: Denver? They were so cute together! – Mitchell, Detroit, Michigan
Davis Mallory
A: “Ryan and I weren't a couple on the Duel, nor have we ever been,” Davis tells AfterElton.com “We just made out the first night of taping. Hollywood is famous for its abundance of hot actors, but the New York theater has its own cadre of guys who are seething with sex appeal. Here's our tribute to some of the fabulous fellows you're likely to find performing on stage in NYC. We tried to cast a wide net, so in addition to such pretty Broadway faces as Cheyenne Jackson and Matt Cavenaugh, you'll find less well-known but no less smokin' hot men who have made their mark Off- and Off-Off-Broadway.
We'd love to have your feedback, but before you begin noting who we left out, please know the criteria we used for our selections. We wanted to focus on men who are truly part of the fabric of New York theater, so we leaned toward those who've been consistently active in this arena over the past few years and/or have had two or more major roles during that time.
