Easily one of the most adapted fairy tales, there aren’t too many new avenues to go down when telling Cinderella’s story. Name a “fresh” angle and there’s likely already a film or a television series that has adapted that same “clever” idea for its own use. Even the marketing and promotion for the newest version of “Cinderella,” which all lean heavily into the film as being a contemporary take on the classic story, has been done before, and recently: look no further than “Ever After” or “A Cinderella Story.” So with the deck quite literally stacked against the film,
The story follows our eponymous character, played by singer Camila Cabello in her cinematic debut, who dreams of rising out of her basement and becoming a dressmaker. The problem? Her tiny village is incredibly old-fashioned and doesn’t allow its womenfolk to be in business. As Ella chases her dreams,...

From the outset of Amazon Studios’ new “Cinderella” movie, writer-director Kay Cannon welcomes audiences into a fantasy unlike any before it, putting a glimmering girl-boss gloss on the oft-adapted fairy tale. In this heightened unreality, characters can break into song with a Janet Jackson chart-topper as easily as they belt out a new Broadway-style power ballad. This latest retelling of the Charles Perrault classic offers a feminist-friendly update as its titular heroine dreams of a career, not a man, to whisk her away. While Cannon’s inspired creative approach and jukebox musical style all point to an elegant and empowering redesign of this most familiar of garments, her execution puts quite a few tears in the fabric.

Netflix holiday movie Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey is filled with music, magic, and gorgeous visuals. One of the best aspects of the film - aside from its stacked cast - is the dazzling choreography. Between the heartwarming sequence of "This Day" and the high-energy rollicking throughout "Magic Man G," it's almost impossible to sit still while watching each symphonic scene.
So who's behind the dance spectacles? That would be choreographer Ashley Wallen. The Australian dance instructor, known for his work on 2017's The Greatest Showman, joined forces with Jingle Jangle director David E. Talbert to bring the routines to life. In a video shared by Netflix on Nov. 14, Wallen spoke about choreographing Jingle Jangle, an experience he described as "a dream come true." He detailed the process of shooting "Make It Work," which is one of the film's biggest dance scenes. "We had 60 dancers," he said. "There was a lot going on.

Like a gorgeously decorated tree with a few too many presents stuffed under it, “Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey” is excessive but never unwelcome. An ambitious original musical packed to the gills with visual delights, it’s the kind of Christmas movie that can charm adults into looking past its flaws while turning delighted children into lifelong fans.
On the heels of his charming ensemble comedy “Almost Christmas,” writer-director David E. Talbert fearlessly marries whimsy and steampunk, sentimentality and science fiction, with big musical numbers composed by Philip Lawrence, Davy Nathan and Michael Diskint, plus one from John Legend (who executive produced the film). That this big, bright Netflix extravaganza features a principally Black cast is not insignificant in the history of cinema, particularly in the history of large-scale family musicals and of Christmas movies.

The prospect of a very special delivery is situated among ABC’s May finale dates and teasers, which were announced on Wednesday.
As for ABC’s No. 1 series, Grey’s Anatomy, the press releases denotes a title for the season ender (“Jump Into the Fog”) but offers no actual synopsis other than the annual, generic “doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial are faced with life-or-death decisions on a daily basis.” Which is true.
