In just about every way, the third and final season of “Star Trek: Picard” is both about looking back and moving forward. In addition to reuniting the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise from “The Next Generation” for the first time since 2002’s “Star Trek: Nemesis,” it also features a new starship on which most of the action takes place: the U.S.S. Titan, first seen in animated form on “Star Trek: Lower Decks” and now refit as a Neo-Constitution Class Starship.
For showrunner, executive producer and self-professed “Star Trek” fan Terry Matalas, the inspiration for a retro-looking starship came while he was shopping for a car. “I missed a proper saucer section on the top part of a starship, and I couldn’t help but notice how many cars have gone retro these days. And I remember, as I was driving around, I thought, ‘What if Starfleet did that?...

I never thought I would be so bothered when it comes to technical awards at the Oscars, but I am already preparing myself for what I expect will be three snubs for a certain film. The Art Directors Guild has all but confirmed one of them will be Moonrise Kingdom's absence from the Production Design nominees by not nominating Adam Stockhausen and Gerald Sullivan's profoundly excellent work. I expect the same to happen at the Oscars and I'm sure Moonrise will be overlooked for Cinematography and Costumes as well, even though everything I'm describing went into what makes it such a great movie. So what did get nominated? Well, in the Contemporary Film category you have Flight, Skyfall, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, The Impossible and Zero Dark Thirty. Of that group The Impossible and Zero Dark Thirty sound about right. Skyfall is a bit of a stretch,...

It’s easy to mock but when you get hooked and fall in love with a TV show, it’s easy to forget sometimes that the props and sets are just that, and for most of the actor’s it’s only a job. And perhaps that applies more to Star Trek than any other show with it’s huge obsessive fan base. Therefore, when you see something iconic like the Enterprise Bridge from Star Trek The Next Generation, sitting dismantled and broken by some bins, it can tug the heartstrings.
That explains why a non profit group called the ‘Project Enterprise Restoration’ spent last week negotiating with Paramount to be allowed to save what was left of the Enterprise D Bridge from being destroyed and sent to the tip.
This replica of the bridge was built in the mid 1990′s by Paramount with the help of Production Designer Herman Zimmerman...

The Art Directors Guild Film Society and American Cinematheque will honor four of the designers who worked on "Star Trek" -- John Jefferies, Joseph R. Jennings, Herman Zimmerman and Scott Chambliss -- at "Star Trek: 45 Years of Designing the Future," on Sept. 27 at the Egyptian Theatre.
All four will participate in a panel discussion to be moderated by production illustrator Daren R. Dochterman. The evening will also feature video clips from their work on "Star Trek," as well as a screening of the Director's Edition of "Star Trek: The Motion Picture."
Documentary video clips of the late Harold Michelson, production designer of "Star Trek: The Motion Picture," will also be shown.

Remastered in high-def and sporting new audio tracks, the collection presents the “Star Trek” films as they have never been seen before.
Two different packages have been assembled, one collecting all six films and another collecting the first three. Anyone that has read this site for a long time knows I am a pretty big fan of the original "Star Trek" universe. I'm talking Captain Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty and the gang. I have reviewed all six of the last Original Series DVD releases as well as the DVD releases of Star Trek: First Contact, Generations, Insurrection, Nemesis and all four seasons of "Enterprise". Strangely enough I don't consider myself a Trekkie since I love the show, but don't have a very deep knowledge of the universe, and that's an understatement. My favorite movies from the franchise are Wrath of Khan and Voyage Home and I have no idea when was the last time I saw the original Motion Picture, Search for Spock, The Final Frontier or The Undiscovered Country. However, that will all change come May 12 as Paramount will release all six of the original Star Trek films...
