Prince became a superstar in the 1980s. The “Purple Rain” singer was a transcendent talent who blended pop with rock ‘n’ roll. While the singer was known to keep to himself, he publicly criticized a few artists, including Keith Richards and Adam Levine. Prince once criticized The Beatles for a song they released 15 years after John Lennon’s death.

In 1995, the remaining Beatles released Anthology, a collection of behind-the-scenes stories and unreleased demos in the format of a documentary and compilation albums. Part of Anthology included a new song from The Beatles called “Free as a Bird”. The song included unfinished audio of Lennon, who could never complete this track.
McCartney, Harrison, and Starr came together to finish the song and clean up Lennon’s audio, so it sounded like The Beatles were performing together once again.

As ahead-of-the-curve as Prince was with music, he was behind in his discovery of one of the most famous bands in the world — The Beatles. He also missed all of their early discography. The first song by The Beatles that Prince really listened to was “Good Morning Good Morning.” Here’s the moment The Purple One first discovered The Beatles, as told by his band.

“He’d never really heard the Beatles until Matt and I played him Sgt. Pepper,” Drummer Bobby Z. told Billboard in 2016.
In an interview with Diffuser in 2017, Bobby looked back at the moment of discovery.
“Matt [‘Dr.’ Fink] and Dez [Dickerson] and I were sitting in the back of the tour bus, and we were listening to Sgt. Pepper and of all of the songs, it was ‘Good Morning Good Morning,’ which...

With the release of his album Around the World in a Day, many critics wondered if Prince was taking inspiration from The Beatles. They hadn’t inspired him to make the album, and while he acknowledged that they were influential artists, he didn’t know that they would have been successful in the decades after their split. Years after making these remarks, though, Prince proved himself wrong.

Bobby Z., the drummer for Prince’s backing band The Revolution, said that the first Beatles album the artist ever really listened to was Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
“Well, it’s a great story, because Matt and Dez [Dickerson] and I were sitting in the back of the tour bus, and we were listening to Sgt. Pepper and of all of the songs,...

Prince may be gone forever but his former band, The Revolution, may soon be back on the road. The rock band, which was formed in Minneapolis in 1979 by Prince and disbanded 1986, announced that they plan to do a reunion tour in honor the “Little Red Corvette” singer, who died Thursday at age 57. Original members Bobby Z., Matt Funk, Brown Mark, Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman will all be involved. “We have decided, after spending three or four days together now grieving over the loss of Prince, that we would like to come out and do some shows,” Melvoin said in...

Yes, I have too much time on my hands. Here's a new feature that was fun to put together (though quite time-consuming, which makes me worry about my ability to do this every month). I look back at rock, pop, and R&B albums that came out five years ago, ten years ago, etc.

Buffalo Springfield: Again (Atco)
There was much chaos surrounding the creation of this quintet 's second album. Bassist Bruce Palmer, in some ways the soul of the band, was unavailable due to a drug charge deportation, and a string of session players took his place. Stephen Stills, who saw himself as the leader of the group, was feuding with Neil Young, who considered himself an equal, and Young actually quit -- but returned. And that's without getting into the fiasco that was the band's management team.
Nonetheless, it was a quantum leap forward from their debut,...

If you're like us, as soon as you heard about Gnomeo & Juliet, you thought "Oooooh, I hope this rated R!" Because who can resist the allure of graphic gnome-on-gnome violence? Luckily for those of us disappointed in the distinct lack of soft-focus gnome-on-gnome action in that flick, an R-rated adaptation of How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack is finally in the works.
The movie is set to be a live action/CGI hybrid, produced by Academy Award-winning director Robert Zemeckis. While we're still thoroughly creeped out by the animation in The Polar Express and A Christmas Carol, Bobby Z. has enough goodwill built up in our book from Who Framed Roger Rabbit? to still have us excited about this new gnome-centric project, though we were kind of holding out for a gritty reboot of David, the Gnome.
In the reboot, they wouldn't be rubbing noses.
Currently, Zemeckis is only...

According to a report from Deadline, Robert Zemeckis may be interested in taking on The Man of Steel for producer Christopher Nolan.
Though it is not elaborated on, the article states that Normal 0 0 1 46 263 2 1 322 11.0 0 0 0 "even though Zemeckis once seemed comfortable directing pictures exclusively in the 3D performance capture process he pioneered in Polar Express, Beowulf, A Christmas Carol and the upcoming Beatles pic Yellow Submarine, Zemeckis has lately been rumored to be kicking the tires on such live action projects as Superman."
Since the director has been heavily courted by Warner Bros. following the collapse of his Image Movers Digital studio at Disney in March, Zemeckis has apparently been re-investing himself into making his first live-action film in over a decade. Another potential project at the studio is a time travel picture called Timeless, Details are scarce.
As for Superman, the matter could be as simple as Zemeckis taking a few meetings on the subject,...
