Filmmaker Francis Xavier dropped us a line to make us aware of a special 20-minute long sneak preview of what to expect from his upcoming fear film The Legend of Linda Vista, a truly haunted location that this writer spent some quality time in. Holy cow, is this place creepy.
According to the official PR for The Legend of Linda Vista, here's what we can expect: In 2010 a team of filmmakers filming a scene of their serial killer/cannibal feature Poe experienced something beyond comprehension. Xavier, the film’s writer and director, along with producer Michael Kureth and co-producer Jo Ann Smith, witnessed something while filming in the vacant hospital that would change their lives forever. The 34-year-old actress filed for divorce from Tom Cruise, a known Scientologist, in June 2012. She reportedly returned to the Catholic Church shortly thereafter, registering at the Church of St. Francis Xavier in New York, just a short distance from the apartment she shares with her 6-year-old daughter.

We delve back into more than a century of A Christmas Carol movies to find the best and worst adaptations of Dickens' festive tale...
Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, the classic story of a time travelling pensioner who sees dead people, is a festive fairytale which has itself become part of Christmas folklore. In terms of favourite Christmas tales, Rudolph and Frosty may wrap up the children's vote, but for most people, it's Dickens’ seminal work which would get the nod.
The story was written by Dickens in order to tackle the relatively new issue of urban poverty, and in particular the growing underclass of impoverished townsfolk produced by the Industrial Revolution. With the rapid shift away from conventional farming and trade practices, and with the rise in new technological advancements, many people were suddenly without work and without the necessary skills to find a job.

Katie Holmes may have been married to one of Hollywood's top stars, but the actress insists she's a down-to-earth Ohio girl at heart.
In an interview with the New York Times, Holmes draws parallels between her own life and that of her character, Lorna, in the new Broadway play “Dead Accounts.”
“I still think of myself as Midwestern,” she reveals. “I mean, I’ve had box wine. It’s good. And it’s a lot easier to open.” (Hey, we concur. Where's a corkscrew when you need one?"
Holmes discusses the role of her Catholic upbringing, saying, "It’s a behavioral code as well. It informs everything.”
Her observation is telling, given that her Catholic faith reportedly played a role in her decision to leave husband Tom Cruise. Holmes registered as a parishioner at the Church of St. Francis Xavier in New York City shortly after filing for divorce.

Taylor held hands with boyfriend Conor during an emotional visit to the gravesite of his mother, Mary Richardson Kennedy. After a romantic stroll along the coast of Cape Cod, Taylor Swift joined her boyfriend Conor Kennedy and his family at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery to visit the gravesite of Mary Richardson Kennedy. As the two honored Conor's departed mom with nearly 15 other members of the Kennedy clan, Taylor held her boyfriend's hand for the entire impromptu memorial service, reports the New York Daily News. Following a group prayer, the family tidied up Mary's gravesite, nestled near a trio of religious statues and two miniature American flags. As Taylor gazed at nearby graves of other famous Kennedys, her boyfriend of two months squatted to clear overgrown grass from his mother's final resting place. Mary was initially buried in May near the graves of Eunice and Sargent Shriver, but Robert F. Kennedy Jr....

Katie Holmes has registered with a Catholic church in New York. The actress - who recently split from actor and high-profile Scientologist Tom Cruise - appears to have formally confirmed her return to Catholicism by signing up as a member of the congregation of the Church of St. Francis Xavier, which is located on 16th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. One member of the church choir told the Huffington Post: 'Everyone is thrilled to have Katie join us. She has not yet attended a service, but when she does she will be welcomed with open arms.' We've gotta admit, we were expecting the divorce proceedings between Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes — which began a little more than a week ago when Holmes filed for divorce and sole custody of their daughter Suri Cruise — to be slow and sticky. But TomKat has always had a way of always keeping us on our toes, and what better way to finish it out than to surprise the world with a surprisingly peaceable and quick settlement?

Holmes' attorney Jonathan Wolfe issued a statement on the matter which asserted that counsel for Tom Cruise acted with "professionalism and diligence that helped bring about this speedy resolution."

The Booth Brothers made a name for themselves amongst certain groups within the paranormal community. They produce feature length film documentaries that explore some of America's famous haunts, like the Waverly Hills Sanatorium, and they take their time in constructing a compelling case. In Spooked, the old asylum takes on a new life. In The Haunted Boy, the demons said to be still lingering get tackled. Not many people will realize that the real life case of the St. Louis Exorcism was the inspiration of William Peter Blatty's The Exorcist.
Much like the book, this movie can easily be divided into parts. The opening act looks at the origins of what caused the young 13-year-old boy to become possessed in 1949. Although his name was never revealed, certain aspects of his exorcism slowly became part of the local folklore.

Panaji, Nov 24: The Church in Goa Thursday accused the Congress-led governments in New Delhi and Goa of being insensitive to local sentiments and 'foisting' a film festival on a state heading to the biggest event in its socio-religious calendar, the feast of Spanish saint Francis Xavier.
The Church was 'appalled' by the 'evasive' responses by union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni and Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on the rescheduling of dates for the 11-day International Film Festival of India (Iffi) so it does not clash with the novenas of St Francis Xavier, said Fr Francisco Caldeira, spokesperson for Archdiocese.

Panaji, Oct 17: The Church has hit out at the Goa government for promoting 'questionable values' by holding events like the International Film Festival of India (Iffi) compared to religious events that promote 'love peace and harmony'.
The criticism comes ahead of the Nov 22-Dec 2 Iifi, which coincides with a popular saint's feast in Goa.
Fr Savio Barreto, the Rector of the Basilica of Bom Jesus, said the Goa government was dragging its feet over resolving the clash of dates of the feast of St Francis Xavier, Goa's patron saint, and Iffi.
'I personally feel this is a clash of values. Here we are trying to promote.

NBC's cop drama 'Hill Street Blues' debuted on Jan. 15, 1981. With a huge cast of character actors darting about Capt. Francis Xavier Furillo's Hill Street station, the hour-long drama with a documentary look was an evolutionary leap in broadcast television.
The show might've been a one-season wonder if not for a boatload of Emmy nominations and wins, right from the start (including one for the late, great actor Michael Conrad, whose "Let's be careful out there" became an 80's catchphrase). Cancellation staved off, NBC's Thursday night anchor went on to collect nearly 100 Emmy nods before it ended after 146 episodes on May 12, 1987

Okay, so this week we have covered the "Top Five Indie Horror Films," with an article found here: Best Indie Horror Films of 2010. Also covered was the "Top Five International Horror Films." An article on this posting is here: Top Five International Films. But, now we are exploring a more depraved side of horror, or a lower class of film. This top five list will cover the "Worst Five Horror Films of 2010!"
This year, there was so much to choose from in poor horror films. Abroad, we have the dismal Basement starring Danny Dyer and Jimi Mistry to the absolutely monstrosity of a film from Australia called Outback aka Prey starring the incapable Natalie Bassingthwaighte. Domestically, films like the Zombie Chronicles: The Infected made this reviewer want to scratch his eyes out, while others like Apocalypse of the Dead aka Zone of the Dead made one reach for the off button with lightening like reflexes.

Poe Movie PosterDirector/writer: Francis Xavier.
Metropolis Pictures Entertainment is the production company behind the independent thriller Poe. The film creates some loose connections between the character Jonathon Poe (Stelio Savante) and the famous American writer Edgar Allan Poe. This picture was recently completed in June and the film also stars Felissa Rose, David Fine, and Gene Silvers. Poe makes a bloody mess with a cannibalistic theme while the low production values and poor acting threaten to torpedo Poe's ship.
The film begins with Jonathon Poe being propositioned with a biography from an agent and part-time girlfriend. After some humming and hawing Poe takes on the job only to find himself in an orgy of mutilation, disfigurement, and murder. You see, Dr. Andrew Casey, Poe's subject, likes to make meat and hamburger out of the local prostitutes and wannabe actresses hanging out around Hollywood. Enter a moral dilemna...

Plus Buffy's Nicholas Brendan's new gig, marriage equality in Iceland, and McDonalds goes gay again?
A moment to mention Senator Robert C. Byrd, who passed away last night. Senator Byrd was the longest serving member of Congress in history. He grew up about three miles from where I’m typing this. He was a product of his era, but wasn’t afraid to change his mind, slowly, first on race, and he was even now evolving on gay issues, despite his past history. I’ve met him many times, and he was a kind and decent man.
Michael Fassbender is going to star in X-Men: First Class as a young Magneto opposite James McAvoy as Professor X. His hairline already matches Sir Ian’s.

#1: RZA talks “Iron Fist”
We already knew that multi-talented artist RZA was writing and directing a martial arts genre mash-up titled Iron Fist. Admittedly around these parts we’re pretty big fans of RZA and excited to see what he’s got to offer but if this recent interview with La Times is any indication, there’s good reason for it too. In the mix is Tarantino who appears to be a great influence to the musician turned director, Eli Roth who, love him or hate him, knows what he’s doing, and Jim Jarmusch. Can’t wait until we finally have some footage.
#2: ”Damn Nation” adaptation in the works

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban took their daughter, Sunday Rose, to a children's Christmas Mass in Sydney. Kidman and Urban were not accompanied by security when they stepped into the St Francis Xavier Church in Lavendar Bay for a 5.30pm children's Mass on Christmas Eve. Urban shunted one-year-old Sunday straight to the top of the church where children assemble around the altar. A church tradition sees the little ones dressed as shepherds and angels. 'He was obviously so very happy. It was very cute - he was helping her to gesture to Nicole [who was among the congregation] as you do. There was no paraphernalia, no bodyguards. It was really refreshing to see them there,' said a...

There's no question. We all love, appreciate, and revel in the incredibly dark body of work presented to the masses by one of the most macabre and important writers of our times, Edgar Allan Poe. But -- have you ever wondered just what would have happened if his bloodline continued?

Call them "cult classics." "Guilty pleasures." "Comfort movies." We all have a mental rolodex of flicks that may not be terribly popular but, for one reason or another, they resonate in a very special way. Maybe you saw it at the right moment. Maybe you just see gold where everyone else sees feces. Whatever the case, these are the special favorites that you keep stashed away for sick days. Here are some of ours.
My "Rosenberg" last name speaks to my Jewish heritage, but that's never stopped "Scrooged" from being one of my favorite holiday movies. I can't remember the first time I saw this one. I might've been in a theater, but it could just as easily have been on cable. Doesn't matter. It's a brilliant send-up of Charles Dickens' classic story of Ebenezer Scrooge and his ghostly pursuers, "A Christmas Carol." And it stars Bill Murray. So it's pretty much perfect.

Hundreds of mourners descended on Massachusetts on Friday to pay their respects to Arnold Schwarzenegger's mother-in-law Eunice Kennedy Shriver, who died earlier this week.
Celebrities including Jon Bon Jovi, Stevie Wonder and TV titan Oprah Winfrey turned out for the funeral of the mental disability campaigner, as well as the actor-turned-California governor and his wife Maria Shriver,
The sister of former U.S. president John F. Kennedy passed away aged 88 after a short stint in hospital. Her health had dramatically deteriorated in recent years after a series of strokes.
To commemorate Shriver's role as the founder of the Special Olympics, disabled athletes lined the streets of Hyannis, Massachusetts with torches as her four sons carried the coffin to the Saint Francis Xavier Catholic church - the building where the Terminator star married Shriver's daughter Maria in 1986.

The funeral for Eunice Kennedy Shriver was held today. Celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey, Stevie Wonder and Jon Bon Jovi attended, as well as family members including her daughter, California First Lady Maria Shriver and Maria's husband, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. During the service, titled "Celebrating The Transformative Eunice Kennedy Shriver," Oprah could be seen crying. Later, Gov. Schwarzenegger went to the podium for a reading. Her grandchildren also spoke, expressing their thanks for everything from life lessons she taught them -- like helping them to get over their fears and teaching them faith --- to taking them out for strawberry shakes. Courage, faith and commitment proved to be the most common expressions of Eunice's most outstanding traits. Oscar winner Glen Hansard ('Once') sang during the service. Maria Shriver delivered a touching and humorous eulogy to her "Mummy" that closed the tribute. After describing some of Eunice's quirkier traits,...

I previously had the pleasure to present to you, the Fangoria Musick readership, the beautifully haunting sounds of Mark Sinnis (see review here) and his eerie mix of Goth and Country dubbed “Cemetery and Western”. His soul-filled mix of genres bends lyrical and acoustic guitar styles into a fine eerie sound that seduces and raises hackles in equal measure. Here in we present the formal review of Mark Sinnis’s band Ninth House, a Gothic and Punk inspired take on pure Americana featuring Mark’s haunting croon.
