In a gripping tale of mystery and revenge, 48 Hours delves into the disturbing case of Ray Wright, a beloved family man whose sudden disappearance unraveled a web of secrets. As viewers will discover in this upcoming episode titled “Who Took Our Dad? The Abduction of Ray Wright,” scheduled for broadcast on Saturday, February. 3, 2024, at 10:00 Pm Et/Pt on the CBS Television Network and available for streaming on Paramount+, the story unfolds with the intensity of a high-speed chase.
Ray Wright, a 55-year-old carpenter, vanished without a trace, leaving his daughters, Kennedy Wright and Haley Kendall, deeply concerned. Their attempts to reach him were met with eerie silence, prompting Kendall to express her foreboding sense of dread. “I knew something bad was happening to him. I felt it,” she confides.
The turning point in this baffling case occurred when Ray Wright’s brother, Dean Wright, decided to investigate his brother’s home.

Vittorio Storaro, like fellow Apocalypse Now veteran Walter Murch, knows more about his field than nearly anybody. And, as with Murch, the cinematographer’s reasons for being at this year’s Camerimage International Film Festival were almost irrelevant — for me, at least, when the opportunity to interview such a master of the craft is offered. But he was present for a project that means a good deal to him: Muhammad: The Messenger of God, an Iranian religious epic, the first in a prospective trilogy, and, to honor Storaro and director Majid Majidi, recipient of the festival’s Outstanding Cinematic Duo Award.
I don’t know if you could necessarily talk about anything with Storaro, but the man can take any topic that interests him and run with it — for a good, long time, as the following discussion will illustrate. This is not a complaint. Those who are so well-versed in...

Title: For Greater Glory Director: Dean Wright Starring: Andy Garcia, Eva Longoria, Eduardo Verastegui, Rubén Blades, Peter O’Toole. The director (and visual effects supervisor) who is best known for fantasy movies such as ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy, and ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe,’ tackles an important and neglected moment in history: the Cristero War. “La Cristiada” was an attempted counter-revolution against anti-clericalism of the ruling Mexican government. During the 1920s, the country was thrust into civil war when President Plutarco Calles outlawed Catholicism, banned religious activity, confiscated all church property and exiled clergy. Priests and nuns that protested were arrested or publicly [ Read More ]

I think the world is ready for some healing. We’re ready to forgive and forget… about that awful Super Mario Bros. movie from 1993. We’re past the 20 year mark, and there have been some great Mario-themed fan films recently. A few months ago we posted a CG/live-action fan-made short that our readers seemed to love (it also now has over 1 million hits on YouTube). Here’s another great fan film that places a CG Mario in the real world. This doesn’t have the same hilariously destructive outcome as the other film, but the CG in this is much better. The video is a fan trailer by Japan-based visual effects artist Dean Wright that features Mario rushing through Tokyo to get to the Super Smash Bros. tournament.
From the looks of the trailer released yesterday, the new SpongeBob Squarepants movie is perhaps the first promising looking CG/live-action hybrid film.

Chicago – “For Greater Glory” attempts to bring back the David Lean style epic – even recruiting Peter O’Toole from “Lawrence of Arabia” to participate – in the story of a Mexican religious war in the 1920s. While a sincere effort, it can’t match the story to the epic history. The cast includes Andy Garcia, Eva Longoria and Bruce Greenwood.
Rating: 3.0/5.0
Without knowledge of this 20th century footnote, the premise of an atheist president outlawing the Catholic Church in Mexico seems impossible now, but that is what happened. The acting is mucho heartfelt, as the cast works diligently to portray an important piece of history. Andy Garcia strikes a perfect balance between his heroic stance and the conflict his character feels about religion in the first place, but the film is muddled and focuses on story elements that are not as compelling as the main conflict.

Another Memorial Day weekend come and gone, and here we are: summer has begun. Temperatures are rising all over the place, and you might have trouble finding comfort, let alone sleep, with all the humidity. You could make like the olden days and take to the air-conditioned cinema houses to beat the heat. With fairy tales, horror flicks, historical epics and more, there’s plenty of material to keep you in that ice-cold seat, eyes glued to the screen. Take note, however: the gore/scare factor is high this week; these movies probably won’t help you sleep at night.
The second Snow White flick of the year hits theaters this weekend, offering a much darker, gothic take on the Grimm Brothers’ fairy tale than its predecessor. Rupert Sanders helms “Snow White and the Huntsman,” in which the titular Snow White (Kristen Stewart) and Hunky Hunter (Chris Hemsworth) join forces...

Everyone in Hollywood just wants to direct, but when it comes to visual effects artists becoming full-fledged filmmakers, the results aren't always great. Among those who've made the transition, for better or worse, are Joe Johnston (Jurassic Park III), Eric Brevig (Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D), Colin and Greg Strause (Aliens vs. Predator - Requiem) and Neil Blomkamp (District 9).
Joining them now is Dean Wright, Oscar-nominated for effects work on The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and a veteran artist who had a hand in Titanic, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Kangaroo Jack and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Oscar-winning producer Barrie M. Osborne is best known for fantastical films employing messianic characters, specifically "The Matrix" and the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Lately though, he's focusing directly on religious material rather than stories that reference those texts. Osborne is already at work on "Kingdom Come," a Biblical epic about the life of Jesus, which will be directed by "Lord of the Rings" visual effects artist Dean Wright. And now, according to The Guardian, he's planning a $150 million film about Muhammad, the founder of Islam.
Osborne's film, which will follow Muhammad's life from birth to death and His teachings, will not feature an on-screen depiction of the Prophet. The New Zealand-based producer is working with a production company out of Qatar and has employed Muslim scholar Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi to oversee the project throughout shooting. The producer told Reuters it will be "an international epic production aimed at bridging cultures.
