On the heels of the season finale of Lucasfilm’s all-new action-adventure series “Willow” based on George Lucas’ fantasy-adventure film, Disney+ has set a January 25, 2023 premiere date for the debut of its original documentary special, “Willow: Behind the Magic.” Featuring the series’ breakout stars and returning legends, the documentary takes viewers behind the scenes for an in-depth look at the making of the hit original series, which debuted on Disney+ November 30, 2022.
The story of “Willow” began when an aspiring sorcerer, played by Warwick Davis, is whisked away on a journey to protect an infant empress Elora Danan and vanquish the evil Queen Bavmorda from their world of Andowyne. Now, the story continues with Davis reprising his titular role as he leads an unlikely crew of heroes – which includes a now-grown Elora, who has just learned of her prodigious birthright – on a quest to protect Andowyne from an even larger foe than they had imagined possible.

Plot: The Nelwyn sorcerer returns, years after rescuing the infant empress Elora Danan, to lead a group of misfit heroes on a harrowing rescue mission through a world beyond imagination.
Review: Of all the sequels and continuations that I have wanted, few ranks as high on my list as Willow. As an eight-year-old, I saw Willow on the big screen based purely on being from the imagination of George Lucas. I was unprepared for the sword and sorcery and dark fantasy about to unfold on a scale I had not seen on the big screen before. Ron Howard’s epic direction, James Horner’s immortal score, and the performances of Warwick Davis, Joanne Whalley, and Val Kilmer had me absolutely blown away. Like Star Wars, for over twenty years I have been stuck with rumors of a possible sequel and only a trilogy of novels to take me back to the story of Willow,...

The minute-long “Special Look” video for Disney+’s Willow showcases the return of the titular character, teases a search for Elora, and declares “their first quest is the world’s last hope.” There’s a little bit of action, some magical moments, a lot of humor, and a character who looks like the Cryptkeeper.
The new video arrived along with the final poster for season one.
Warwick Davis reprises his role as Willow and Joanne Whalley returns as Sorsha. The cast also includes Ellie Bamber, Ruby Cruz, Erin Kellyman, Tony Revolori, Amar Chadha-Patel, and Dempsey Bryk.
Ron Howard, director of the 1988 film (written by George Lucas and Bob Dolman), executive produces along with Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Jonathan Kasdan, Tommy Harper, Wendy Mericle, Roopesh Parekh, and Samie Kim Falvey. John Bickerstaff, Hannah Friedman, and Jonathan Kasdan are the season one writers, and Stephen Woolfenden, Julia Cooperman, Hameed Shaukat, and Max Taylor serve as producers.

Disney+ said Thursday that Willow, its live-action original series based on the 1988 fantasy film directed by Ron Howard, will premiere on November 30.
The news was revealed during a Lucasfilm panel at Star Wars Celebration, where the series, from Lucasfilm and Imagine Entertainment, also got its first teaser trailer, along with some first-look images (see those below).
The series, which picks up years after the events of the movie, introduces new characters and is set in a world where brownies, sorcerers, trolls and other mystical creatures flourish. An unlikely group of heroes set off on a dangerous quest to places far beyond their home, where they must face their inner demons and come together to save their world.

Exclusive: Willow, the Disney+ and Lucasfilm fantasy series based on the 1988 movie, has changed its pilot director for the second time.
Jonathan Entwistle, who had signed up for the job in late January, calling it “a dream come true,” left the project in April, I have learned. Entwistle replaced Jon M. Chu, who had stepped down two weeks prior citing scheduling concerns.
The production schedule for Willow was pushed, in part because of a recasting of one of the leads. As a result, Entwistle left during prep in April due to a scheduling conflict with his Apple TV+ series Hello Tomorrow, starring Billy Crudup, which is about to start production.
I hear Entwistle’s exit did not impact production. Stephen Woolfenden (Outlander), a producing director on the Willow series, stepped in to shoot the first two episodes, which now have been completed. A rep for Lucasfilm declined comment.

Roger Mackenzie (Richard Rankin), and his treatment in the televised world of “Outlander” has been controversial among fans, but the show has been working for weeks now towards a huge emotional payoff that came to fruition with Sunday night’s “Famous Last Words.” By hitting viewers over the head just how important Roger’s voice is — both as a scholar in the 1960s and as a musician in the past — learning he lost that voice following his hanging at the Battle of Alamance was the worst thing next to death. Without the ability to fight or acclimatize to other masculine jobs of the time, Roger’s voice has been the one consistent in maintaining some kind of contribution to society. Without it, as the episode showed, he was lost.

Outlander Season 5 Episode 8
“Famous Last Words” may feel like a letdown from the height of the season, but this episode gives the characters most impacted by the battle time to mourn and to heal following last week’s gutting episode. The return of a long-forgotten plot thread (Young Ian’s departure last season to go live with the Mohawk people) not only sets up future conflicts but also contributes to the deep introspection of the episode, as Roger finds someone he can confide in about the trauma he has suffered.
Ptsd or, as Bree calls it, shell shock, is a recurring theme in Outlander‘s plot. The challenge for this Season 5 episode is to present flashbacks and triggers in a way that is different from how earlier episodes have handled the sensitive and difficult-to-depict experience. Using a black-and-white silent movie (and tying it to Roger...

Warning: This Outlander review contains spoilers.
“The Ballad of Roger Mac” may initially lead people to believe they’re in for an hour of Roger singing folk songs, but the battle against the Regulators steals the thunder. This fakeout, combined with some rich symbolism surrounding Jamie’s faith, is the ideal setup for one of the most tragic moments in Outlander so far. Governor Tryon’s militia and professional Redcoat soldiers really did meet the Regulator forces at Alamance Creek in 1771. The episode delivers not only a faithful to history reenactment of the battle but also plenty of surprises and tears for the audience.
The very first scene shows Roger fearful for the battle, but Jamie is established as the true focus of the episode. We see his extended reflection on turning 50, and how that means living longer than his father. Claire’s 18th-century remix of Marilyn Monroe’s birthday...

Outlander Season 5, Episode 1
“The Fiery Cross” kicks off Season 5 by successfully building the contrast between settled family life on Frasers’ Ridge and the troubles of colonial politics just beyond the ridge, threatening the peace of mind for the characters as we head into Season 5. The episode succeeds in resetting the narrative from the chaotic and uneven Season 4 finale, which overemphasised action sequences and didn’t develop characters enough.
This episode’s scenes focus on establishing each character’s arc in effective ways. Stephen Woolfenden, who also directed the Season 4 finale, is back and key to the success of the episode.

Doctor Who, Series 7, Episode 13: “Nightmare in Silver”
Written by Neil Gaiman
Directed by Stephen Woolfenden
Airs Saturdays at 9pm (Et) on BBC America
This week, on Doctor Who: We meet Locutus of Doctor, Porridge has good taste in Queens, and the Cyberiad is back en masse
Life-long Whovian Neil Gaiman made a big splash with his first contribution to Doctor Who, series six’s fantastic “The Doctor’s Wife”. When word came out that he was returning in series seven to pen the return of the Cybermen, fans were understandably excited. Unfortunately, “Nightmare in Silver”, while it has its charms, is massively uneven and nowhere near as satisfying as the emotional and eminently rewatchable “The Doctor’s Wife”. This is one of the most qualitatively schizophrenic episodes in quite a while, so to best approach it, I’m ditching my usual format and going for bullet points.

If this week's "Doctor Who" felt faster, fizzier and more imaginative than the recent norm it's because author Neil Gaiman ("Coraline," "Neverwhere") was back to ace his second stint writing for the show.
Gaiman's "The Doctor's Wife" -- in which the Tardis took human-like form and bantered with the Doctor -- was a standout back in 2011. He follows that marvel with an only slightly less impressive installment re-imagining the Cybermen.
They're one of the Doctor's greatest foes, but we haven't seen the Cybermen since "Closing Time," the penultimate episode of Season 6. Now they're back -- and upgraded -- for the penultimate episode of Season 7. In Gaiman's script, the lumbering robo-warriors are lightning fast terrors reawakened from slumber by icky little Cyber-mites to wreak havoc in a rundown outer space amusement park. There's nary a "You will be deleted" to be heard.
However, the true genius twist of "Nightmare in Silver...

Finally! A New Neil Gaiman Doctor Who Episode! Every Whovian has favorite episodes, and mine had been “Blink” before Neil Gaiman‘s exquisite “The Doctor’s Wife” came along in Season 6. Neil Gaiman is the author of American Gods, Coraline, The Graveyard Book, the Sandman comic series, and so much more (and by the way brings an unsurpassable magic to his audiobook narration), and his fans are as rabid as Whovians.
What we have tonight is a perfect storm of fandom, particularly considering that tonight is the penultimate episode of the season.
But first, we have a few reminders from last week’s episode, “The Crimson Horror”, just so we’re all on the same page for tonight. Then we have two posters for the new episode, the synopsis, and a TV spot. Now all we need is that Tardis to get us to tonight faster.

Neil Gaiman's second Doctor Who story brings in the Cybermen. Here's our spoiler-filled take on Nightmare In Silver...
This review contains spoilers. Our spoiler-free review is here.
Nightmare In Silver
We wonder if, having got to the end of Nightmare In Silver, that there's a core of Doctor Who fans who categorise the episode as 'not the one we expected'. We'd probably put ourselves in that camp too to an extent. We're not quite sure what we thought we were going to get when it was revealed that Neil Gaiman was reinventing the Cybermen. But Nightmare In Silver feels a little different, which is mainly a positive thing here.
The whole episode, after all, was bathed in sci-fi. The setting of a futuristic theme park - Hedgewick's World Of Wonders here (which, by the map, looked like it would be an ace day...

Sneak Peek the new "Doctor Who" episode, "Nightmare in Silver", featuring the return of the 'Cybermen', written by Neil Gaiman and directed by Stephen Woolfenden, airing May 11, 2013.
The episode stars Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman:
"...'Hedgewick’s World of Wonders' was once the greatest theme park in the galaxy, but it’s now the dilapidated home to a shabby showman, a chess-playing dwarf and a dysfunctional army platoon.
"When the 'Doctor', 'Clara', 'Artie' and 'Angie' arrive, the last thing they expect is the re-emergence of one of the Doctor’s oldest foes.

Don't expect The Doctor's Wife 2 from Neil Gaiman's latest Who episode, Nightmare In Silver. Here's Simon's spoiler-free review...
There's a bit in the film The People Vs George Lucas, where Neil Gaiman, and we're badly paraphrasing here, basically summises that fans generally tend to want more of the same, rather than anything particularly new. It's in specific relation to the Star Wars franchise that he's talking, but when it was announced and confirmed that he'd be tackling a second Doctor Who adventure, something along the lines of The Doctor's Wife again sounded really rather tasty.
That's not Gaiman's style, though, and he clearly isn't looking to do that. And while there's an element about Nightmare In Silver of taking something of a Doctor Who icon - the Cybermen, rather than the Tardis, in this instance - and digging deeper into it, it's a...

Neil Gaiman's Doctor Who episode titled "Nightmare in Silver" is set to premiere next month. In anticipation of it, the BBC has released a poster and plot synopsis for the highly awaited episode!
Hedgewick’s World of Wonders was once the greatest theme park in the galaxy, but it’s now the dilapidated home to a shabby showman, a chess-playing dwarf and a dysfunctional army platoon.
When the Doctor, Clara, Artie and Angie arrive, the last thing they expect is the re-emergence of one of the Doctor’s oldest foes. The Cybermen are back!
The episode was directed by Stephen Woolfenden, and it sounds like the Tardis is going to take Matt Smith's Doctor and his new companion Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman) on another fantastic sci-fi adventure! The episode is set to air on May 11th!

First up is episode five, Journey to the Centre of the Tardis, written by Sherlock and The Curse of the Black Spot scribe Steve Thompson and directed by M.I. High's Mat King. Last week it was revealed that Neil Gaiman's new Doctor Who episode would feature the Cybermen. That episode is currently in production, and we have a few photos from the set featuring the Cybermen in action.
The episode will air next spring on BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the Us. It will co-star Life’s Too Short‘s Warwick Davis, EastEnders‘ Tamzin Outhwaite, and Being Human‘s Jason Watkins. The episode will be directed by Stephen Woolfenden, a second unit director on some of the Harry Potter films.
Gaiman won a Hugo Award for the last episode he wrote, "The Doctor's Wife," and I'm excited to see his Cybermen episode! The Cybermen have been haunting the crime lord since 1966, and the last time they were seen was in 2011's episode "Closing Time." I love the updated look. The photos were taken by healthytowers.

According to Deadline, author Neil Gaiman (whose works include Stardust and American Gods) is returning to write a second Doctor Who episode. The author’s first episode was The Doctor’s Wife back in season six, which explored the idea of The Doctor’s ship, The Tardis, having a consciousness. The episode was well received by fans and won Gaiman a Hugo award.
Gaiman’s new script will bring back the Cybermen, a terrifying race of cyborgs who conquer the galaxy through assimilation, much like the Borg from the Star Trek series. The Cybermen have not been seen since the 2011 episode, Closing Time, in which they invaded a department store.
Co-starring in this episode will be Warwick Davis from the Harry Potter franchise with Stephen Woolfenden, who worked as a second-unit director on the Harry Potter films, directing.

BBC America has issued a press release about Doctor Who in 2013 that has us completely excited. Yes indeed, author par excellence Neil Gaiman‘s second episode for Doctor Who (his first was “The Doctor’s Wife”; that’s Gaiman in a promo shot from that episode, below) will be about Cybermen. Cool! We can’t wait to see what that amazing man will do with those somewhat clunky evil enemies of The Doctor.
Neil Gaiman, Suranne Jones, Matt Smith
But the press release could be read as meaning that the episode will kick off the second half of the season, Or that it will simply air during the season. We’d like it first, please, but will honestly take it whenever it is offered, and are thrilled that it is promised during Spring 2013. There will be some great guest stars in the episode as well, and we love off-planet settings,...

Doctor Who is to battle the Cybermen in a second episode written by Neil Gaiman.
The 11th Doctor, played by Matt Smith, and his new companion, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman, are to tackle the metallic menaces in a 2013 story, the BBC has confirmed.
The iconic baddies will feature in Episode 13, penned by Gaiman and directed by Stephen Woolfenden.
Also starring in the story are Warwick Davis (Life's Too Short, Harry Potter), Tamzin Outhwaite (EastEnders, Hotel Babylon, Paradox) and Jason Watkins (Being Human, Lark Rise to Candleford) as a band of misfits on a mysterious planet.
Doctor Who lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffatt said: "Cybermen were always the monsters that scared me the most! Not just because they were an awesome military force, but because sometimes they could be sleek and silver and right behind you without you even knowing."

The first time he wrote a script for "Doctor Who," acclaimed fantasy author Neil Gaiman picked up a Hugo award for his work on the episode which was entitled 'The Doctor's Wife'. Widely considered the best episode of the sixth season, Gaiman will now attempt to top himself with his next adventure following the man from Gallifrey.
Though his involvement was announced a few months back, Gaiman himself today revealed that the episode will involve the return of the Cybermen. Also onboard are guest stars Warwick Davis, Tamzin Outhwaite and Jason Watkins as a "band of misfits on a mysterious planet".
"Harry Potter" second unit director Stephen Woolfenden will helm the episode which will go to air with the eight episode second half of season seven in the Spring.
