Five years ago, Robert Fripp was still merely known as the legendary guitarist of prog-rock pioneers King Crimson. Fast-forward to the present, and he’s the guy who does kooky “Sunday Lunch” YouTube videos with his wife Toyah, so it wouldn’t exactly be a shock if he joined OnlyFans. Thankfully, though, a new video declaring as much is merely an April Fools’ joke.
The clip was posted on the 77-year-old Fripp’s Instagram page with the caption, “Robert has officially joined OnlyFans! Subscribe now for exclusive, jaw-dropping content you never knew you needed…” In the video, we see a naked Fripp seductively sitting on a staircase, with only his guitar strategically preventing things from getting X-rated.
An accompanying URL (onlyfans.com/robertfripp) leads to a dead link, ultimately letting us know that it’s an April Fools’ Day prank. Whew!
It’s not the only fun new clip from Fripp.

Paul Justman, director of the acclaimed 2002 documentary Standing in the Shadows of Motown as well as classic MTV-era music videos including the J. Geils Band’s “Centerfold” and Diana Ross’ “Muscles,” has died at his home in the Hollywood Hills. He was 74.
His March 7 death was announced by his brother, the J. Geils keyboard player Seth Justman, to The New York Times for an obituary today.
Named Best Non-Fiction Film of 2002 by the New York Film Critics, among other awards including two Grammys, Standing in the Shadows of Motown chronicled the story of the Funk Brothers, the legendary, if at the time largely unknown, studio musicians who played on numerous Motown hits. The film gave long overdue credit to musicians Jamerson, Jack Ashford, Bob Babbitt, Joe Hunter, Uriel Jones, Joe Messina, Eddie Willis, Richard “Pistol” Allen, Benny “Papa Zita” Benjamin, Eddie “Bongo” Brown, Johnny Griffith, Earl Van Dyke and Robert White,...

“Top Gun: Maverick” is one of the best received movie sequels in years, earning rave reviews from critics and dominating the box office on its opening weekend. Almost everyone seems to agree that it’s a major improvement over the original “Top Gun,” trading in the campy 1980s vibes for a more serious tone (by blockbuster standards). But one thing did not change: the use of Kenny Loggins’ “Danger Zone.”
To many, the synth-heavy song, composed and produced by Giorgio Moroder, is synonymous with “Top Gun,” a sentiment that is apparently shared by Tom Cruise. In a new interview with Vulture, Loggins revealed the moment he learned that his iconic song would be used in the sequel. The singer explained that he actually did not know Cruise in the 1980s, and only met him when they both appeared on a 2016 episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Backstage, Loggins couldn’t help...

Maybe we should start with that subtitle: “America’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll Magazine.” [Clears throat at the volume of a jet engine] Scott Crawford’s documentary on the estimable, invaluable 1970’s music rag does stoop to mention another U.S. publication that was covering rock stars and the counterculture scene, one which kicked off the year before Detroit record-store owner Barry Kramer decided to begun publishing his own take. Creem‘s existence, in fact, was partially a reactive fuck you to the very entity you’re reading right now, as one of the film’s talking heads admits — even the name,...

In 2010, I went to see Peter Wolf play an intimate set at Portland, Maine’s Port City Music Hall. At the time, I’d gotten deep into Wolf’s catalog after hearing J. Geils Band’s Houseparty album, and the frontman delivered, playing a wild set full of hits like “Homework” and “Love Stinks.” During “Must of Got Lost,” Wolf dropped to his knees and delivered the classic spoken-word intro. After the show, my friend Jamie and I wound up in Wolf’s dressing room, listening to the disheveled legend hold court with fans,...

“Buying Creem was a little bit like buying Playboy,” Jeff Daniels says in the trailer for the upcoming documentary, Creem: America’s Only Rock N’ Roll Magazine. “You didn’t want your parents to see either one of them.” The alternative music magazine debuted in Detroit in 1969 and is credited with inventing the phrase Punk Rock. “It was Rock magazine with a capital R,” Suzi Quatro adds. Creem: America’s Only Rock N’ Roll Magazine will open in select theaters in August. Boy howdy!
Creem was staffed by a group of misfits who had no “business running, writing or editing for a rock magazine,” according to the trailer, but it was gobbled up by music fans and musicians alike who were hungry for new sounds, harsher attacks and irreverent takes on mainstream artists and venerated rock gods. If the mystic wanderings of Van Morrison’s 1968 masterpiece Astral Weeks have any geographic setting at all, it’s their creator’s native Belfast, and, of course, the viaducts of his dreams. But as Ryan H. Walsh’s excellent recent book Astral Weeks: A Secret History of 1968 reveals, Morrison actually conceived the album in — of all places — Boston, Massachusetts, where he was essentially hiding out after leaving behind the record deal that yielded “Brown Eyed Girl” the previous year. On our Rolling Stone Music Now podcast, Walsh broke down the...

Bernie Taupin isn’t a sentimental person. For the past five decades, the Elton John lyricist had been writing lyrics on random sheets of paper and then throwing the manuscripts into a large oaken chest once they were fleshed out as demos. Original drafts of hits like “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” and “I’m Still Standing” rested haphazardly on top of wonderful obscurities like “Rotten Peaches” and “Talking Old Soldiers,” and never once did Taupin even bother to browse through his massive collection to see what had survived...

Aretha Franklin waived her fee to headline the Sam Cooke tribute I produced some years ago. It was the 2005 American Music Masters series, held at the Cleveland Playhouse and hosted by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In Aretha’s case, waiving the fee didn’t mean it was cheap. Traveling light wasn’t her thing. She didn’t fly, so we needed to rent a bus to get her in from Detroit. Hair, make-up, band members, a couple bodyguards, a few people with uncertain roles. By the time we calculated the total,...

Bob Dylan’s 77th birthday was celebrated with a kinetic reimagining of his 1963 solo concert at New York’s Town Hall. Titled Tomorrow Is A Long Time, the May 24 event produced by Hal Willner featured a slew of talented guests — among them: contemporary performers like The Milk Carton Kids, Emily Haines and Teddy Thompson, 60’s survivors like Geoff Muldaur and Bob Neuwirth, poetess Anne Waldman and savvy stage performers like Gina Gershon, Steve Buscemi and Bill Murray — and followed the original concert’s set list, providing ardent, idiosyncratic musical settings for Dylan’s songs with barely a hint of nostalgia. Musical Director Steven Bernstein and the Town Hall Ensemble led the tribute, which was filled with humor, social commentary and an impressive range of musical styles.
While Dylan’s original concert was a solo acoustic affair, the brawny Town Hall Ensemble contained a number of amazing musicians including bandleader Bernstein on trumpet,...

When she first saw herself in the early dailies of Bonnie and Clyde in 1967, she couldn't look at the screen. "Just to see the face, to see that it's too round - but it was more than that," she says. It’s been a few moons since Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon dominated the headlines with his dog-defiling Vma disses, Northern Exposure-themed tattoo contests, and bro-tacular workout videos. Did you know that Bon Iver’s crooner Justin Vernon has his own imprint on his home label, Jagjaguwar Records? Vernon’s equally tongue-twisting Chigliak imprint has been gestating since 2010 and now it appears the label is finally ready for its first release: a reissue by Wisconsin troupe Amateur Love.
This comes as no surprise since Amateur Love is from Vernon’s home town of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and he first mentioned reissuing the band’s ’03 debut It’s All Aquatic to Pitchfork back in 2010.
The reissue is expected to drop May 22 digitally as well as appearing in 12” vinyl form, which will be accompanied by a download of some previously unreleased 2004 songs from the group – being dubbed the Ev Sessions.
Vernon explained in a press release that Amateur Love was “the singular catalyst in founding Chigliak.” He continued:
“[Amateur Love's] Josh Scott was the ambassador of my heart for many years.

Alexa here. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy was one on my favorite movies this year, so I was a bit disappointed this morning at its lack of notice by the Academy for Best Picture. But I wasn't surprised, what with most of the predictions not mentioning it (including Nathaniel's). Perhaps it was too professorial, too quiet, too stodgy for most. Thankfully Gary Oldman got his nomination for managing to seep George Smiley from every pore, and its le Carré-adapted screenplay got notice.
Thinking about it while listening to the nominations I was reminded of another one of my favorite spy-intrique films with a 70s setting, Three Days of the Condor, similarly ignored by the Academy in its time (save for an editing nomination), despite its timely post-Watergate release. Sydney Pollock's film is certainly the sexier of the two, with Redford and Dunaway in their heyday, but one glance at Max Von Sydow...

On the 2009 debut album Inter-Be, Twin Cities duo Peter Wolf Crier put an appealing spin on indie-folk thanks to the orthogonal approaches of its two creative halves, with the downcast, Nick Drakean songwriting and high-pitched, haunting vocals of Peter Pisano sent off in unexpected directions by the refreshingly experimental production of percussionist/engineer Brian Moen. Since it worked so well the first time, it’s good to find the duo doubling down on its collaborative technique on Garden Of Arms. By now you’ve probably seen the Kid Cudi music video for the Fright Night 3D remake - a future B-Sides in the making, no doubt. But how does it compare to the J. Geils Band’s theme song from the original Fright Night?
J. Geils Band made quite a splash in the early Eighties with hits like “Centerfold” and “Love Stinks” and “Freeze Frame”. Lead singer Peter Wolf left the band in 1983 to pursue a rather unsuccessful solo career. Seth Justman took over the vocals for the band’s only album before breaking up in 1985.

Hollywood legend Faye Dunaway celebrates a milestone birthday on Friday as she turns 70 years old.
The Oscar-winning actress broke into acting in the 1960s on the Broadway stage, before going on to film some of the most iconic movies of all time.
To wish Dunaway a very special 70th birthday, WENN has compiled 10 fascinating facts about the onscreen siren:
- She was born Dorothy Faye Dunaway on a farm in Bascom, Florida in 1941.
- The actress has been married twice - from 1974 to 1979 to Peter Wolf, lead singer of rock group The J. Geils Band, and from 1984 to 1987 to British photographer Terry O'Neill.
- Dunaway has one son with O'Neill called Liam.
- Her breakthrough role was in 1967's Bonnie and Clyde, which catapulted her to superstardom opposite Warren Beatty. She saw off competition from Natalie Wood and Beatty's sister Shirley MacLaine to land the part.
- She auditioned for the role of Daisy in The Great Gatsby, but it went to Mia Farrow. She later called her autobiography Looking For Gatsby: My Life.
- Dunaway won a Best Actress Academy Award for 1976's Network.
- In 1977 she was offered the part of Lillian Hellman in Julia - she turned it down and the role went to Jane Fonda, who picked up a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her performance.
- In 1996 she converted to Roman Catholicism.
- Dunaway is one of only four actresses to win both an Oscar for Best Actress, as well as a Razzie Award for Worst Actress. The other stars boasting the same dubious honour are Halle Berry, Sandra Bullock and Liza Minnelli.
- She appears in both versions of The Thomas Crown Affair. Dunaway starred in the original 1968 film, as well as 1999's remake with Pierce Brosnan.

I've spent a lot of my day cleaning up my room here in my parents' house which has caused me to be alternately annoyed by, proud of, and bewildered by the remnants of my teenaged self. Like a younger sister who's smart and a little quirky, but you kind of want to grab by the shoulders and reassure that high school ends and the less you care about it at the time, the less you'll be disappointed by that fact later. This is how I'm going to be spending a lot of my weekend. Should be fun. Here's Thursday night's TV:

Slow, painstaking craftsmanship can make great music, but when inspiration strikes like a freight train out of the night, it’s best to just jump on and let the thing get where it’s going at its own breakneck speed. That approach worked well for Peter Pisano of Minneapolis’ Peter Wolf Crier, who pounded out the core of his duo’s debut, Inter-Be, in a single night after months of stagnation in the wake of the breakup of his previous band, The Wars Of 1812. The songs’ rough framework was fleshed out considerably later, especially when drummer and recording engineer ...

Could Peter Wolf -- Yeah, the Singer From J. Geils -- Have Made a Contender for Best CD of the Year?
Only grownups buy CDs of popular music now. Research tells us that kids know better -- they sample a CD, find the two or three songs that sound like keepers, and download them for a buck a shot. Yeah, but what if a CD came along with every track a winner? What if, as you listened, you could imagine playing this music for decades -- cranking it high in the car, using it as background music for parties, letting it keep you company as you work? And even better, what if you knew that this CD would never get the attention it deserved and you would have whatever status accrues to the cool kid with the secret treasure? Feeling me? Then waste not a minute -- order Peter Wolf's first CD in eight years, Midnight Souvenirs, right now. (If you can't wait, there's...

"When I think of Peter Wolf I always remember the Portuguese proverb: 'Never say you will not drink from that glass again.'" - Faye Dunaway, Academy Award-winning actress and Wolf's former wife, in her 1995 autobiography, Looking for Gatsby "You never say never." - Peter Wolf Same subject (L-o-v-e). Same sorrowful scenario (L-o-s-t). Totally different playing partners. Peter Wolf, who helped turn the J. Geils Band into one of America's most electrifying rock 'n' roll acts during the 1970s and early '80s before they musta got lost, leaves the door open for rejoining his cohorts somewhere down the line. His first -- and only -- marriage is another story that he mostly has kept to himself. Even during his high-profile relationship with Faye Dunaway, Wolf artfully dodged the celebrity spotlight years before TMZ and reality TV ruled (destroyed?) the world. While looking forward to the...

Baseball season has started again, which means I will try fruitlessly to watch baseball on television again at some point this summer, remember that I've only ever liked baseball when I've been at a live game and give up. Whereas football only becomes more confusing when you go to an actual game (ball is harder to see, everything looks smaller and faster, etc.) baseball actually gets more interesting live because more things seem to be happening as opposed to a bunch of guys hanging out in a field waiting for something to happen. And before you start lecturing me on the history of the sport and how I was obviously raised by French wolves who never instilled in me the proper appreciation for this American pastime and do I also hate apple pie? (Answer: I don't hate it, but I don't really like it either) I will remind you that...

On April 6th, the world will be blessed with new music from rock and roll legend, Peter Wolf. He is, of course, the man who once exclaimed, "Take out your false teeth, baby, I wanna suck on your gums," and we were all better for it. It has been almost 40 years since the J. Geils Band kicked some rock and roll ass on "Live Full House," one of the better live albums of the seventies, and eight years since Peter Wolf released his sublime solo album, "Sleepless." In just a few weeks, Peter Wolf's new album "Midnight Souvenirs" will invade your soul. I will begin gushing now because this record is that good. From the soulful opener and first single, "Tragedy," a duet with Shelby Lynne, you will be hooked. But ... since we have to wait, I suggest...

New York — It opened with a Phish show, nearly exploded into a (very well-heeled) proto-punk riot, got giddy on a fix of sunshiny Swedish pop, and finally wrapped up with a '50's-tinged tribute. It was the 25th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, back in NYC after a one-year sojourn in Cleveland (where the titular hall actually exists). And while it may have been lacking the star power of previous years' ceremonies — Eminem and Metallica in 2009, Madonna and Justin Timberlake in '08 — it certainly showcased the breadth and depth of this thing we call rock music.

Des Moines - During the 20th Century when a young boy or girl wanted to know how to be an adult, they’d learn from the movies. This education was not from merely emulating the stars in Hollywood films. There were thousands of movies made for the classrooms that covered nearly every subject a young mind needed to absorb. And thousands of those 16mm films found their way into Skip Elsheimer’s A/V Geeks educational film center.
Skip tours the country giving presentations of the films in various theaters, museums, art galleries and occasionally a classroom. He’s sharing another batch of gems in two new DVD sets from Kino. How to Be a Woman and How to Be a Man are instructional, inspirational and horrific. Strange to see what professionals thought was great advice. Here’s a little sampler from How to Be a Woman:

It’s been eight years since Peter Wolf released a new set of tunes, but at long last, the seasoned musician’s seventh solo album, Midnight Souvenirs, is set for an April 6 release. “I took a long time making this record,” Wolf said in a recent statement. “It just didn’t seem like there was a need to rush.” Indeed, the 14-song album was two years in the making, and features guest vocals from Neko Case, Merle Haggard and Shelby Lynne....

I know I'm regionally biased, but Mean Creek is not merely a great Boston Band; they're a really great band period. The J. Geils Band at the Worcester Centrum was the first concert I ever experienced. This was a few years before "Cenetrfold"/ "Freeze Frame" J. Geils . It was more the Full House Live J. Geils era, with "First I Look at The Purse", "(Ain't Nothin' but a)House Party", "Whammer Jammer" ie the down and dirty street shuffle, combat zone, jungle boogie shit that makes you proud of your dirty water heritage. I was twelve years old wandering around backstage when I ran into lead singer Peter Wolf, my...
