Three Billboards in Ebbing, Missouri is a polarizing film. We have a protagonist who’s kicking kids in the nuts and setting police stations on fire. The police chief is dealing with his own set of problems involving his battle with cancer. And Officer Dixon, the immature mama’s boy who has a short temper. To rewind, the Martin McDonagh vehicle is about Mildred Hayes’s quest to finally get some answers about the murder of her daughter, and she writes a controversial message aimed at William Willoughby. The film follows the ups and downs of these characters as they navigate through life

Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing Missouri is one of the more interesting films to come out in 2017. It contains a racist cop, a scorned mother, a suicidal police chief, and an abusive ex-husband. All sounds like a great recipe for a melodrama, right? Wrong! Martin McDonagh crafted this dark comedy and drama feature starring the all-star cast of Frances McDormand, Sam Rockwell, and Woody Harrelson. The film centers around Mildred Hayes, who goes to extremes just to get more attention to her daughter’s murder case; however, the situation gets more complicated when William Willoughby and his second-in-command, Officer Dixon,

The following content has been sponsored by Fox Searchlight Pictures. In a small Midwestern town, a mother searches for justice. “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” the acclaimed new feature from Martin McDonagh, stars Academy Award winner Frances McDormand in what critics have called one of the finest performances of her celebrated career (and one that garnered a Golden Globe win for Best Actress in a Drama Motion Picture). After months have gone by since her daughter’s murder, McDormand’s Mildred Hayes decides to challenge the apparent apathy of the town’s law enforcement in a very public way. Commissioning three billboards leading straight into the titular town, Mildred directs their messages to Ebbing’s Police Chief, William Willoughby (Academy Award nominee Woody Harrelson). What begins as a mother’s plea to avenge her daughter’s death quickly escalates into a hard-fought battle between Mildred and the entirety of Ebbing’s law enforcement unit,...

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri was the big winner at the Golden Globes this week, and we had the pleasure of meeting the man who thought the whole thing up, speaking to writer/director Martin McDonagh when in London during the capital’s annual film festival.
McDonagh, whose previous films are In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths, tells us what inspired this unique, original story, and how he went about securing an unfathomable redemption tale for one of the film’s leading roles.
He also goes to explain why Sam Rockwell listened to Abba in the movie, and what attracts him to working with the same actors on numerous occasions. Talking of which he tells us that he’s trying to get Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson back together, and that he also has an idea to bring Christopher Walken and Rockwell together on screen.

Frances McDormand gives her best performance since Fargo over two decades ago in Three Billboards Outside Ebbibg, Missouri which, despite its cumbersome title, is one of the best films of 2017. She plays Mildred Hayes, a middle-aged divorcee who, out of grief and frustration, rents three dilapidated billboards outside the sleepy burg of Ebbing, Missouri (look it up – it’s one town over from Blaine) and has them decked with incriminating messages; “Raped While Dying”,“And Still No Arrests”, and “How Come, Chief Willoughby?” Mildred is basically declaring war on Ebbing’s Police Chief, William Willoughby (Woody Harrelson), but the locals are incensed at her, mostly because the Chief is not only widely beloved, but he’s also dying of pancreatic cancer. Mildred doesn’t care what her neighbors think or of Willoughby’s fine character and impending death. She’s just angry because several months have passed and not enough...

This year’s Best Actress race may already be stacked with plenty of talents and turns to keep an eye on, but few are as out-and-out fierce as Frances McDormand’s in the lauded dramedy “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.” The film has already enjoyed a hearty festival run, including stops at Venice and Toronto, where it won the prestigious People’s Choice Award. We see a lot of blockbuster, big-budget movie trailers here at Lrm, and sometimes it's easy to overlook smaller films telling simple, personal stories. But every once in a while a new independant feature appears that demands our attention, and isn't afraid to crack us upside the head with its message.
Martin McDonagh, best known for the tragically dark 2008 comedy In Bruges, about a pair of Irish hitmen trying (and failing) to lay low after a botched assassination. In Bruges was wickedly funny and surreal, a great work by a dynamic, new director. However, aside from 2012's little-seen crime-comedy, Seven Psychopaths, McDonagh has been off the grid.
Well, he's resurfaced and judging by the trailer for Fox Searchlight's Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, the English-born auteur has made a new film that appears to be his funniest, darkest, and edgiest project to-date.

In Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Frances McDormand plays Mildred Hayes, a mother seeking answers and justice following her daughter's unsolved murder.
Written and directed by Martin McDonagh (In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths), the film also stars Woody Harrelson as chief of police William Willoughby.
In the Nsfw, Red Band trailer, Hayes is frustrated with the town's police department after they've not made progress in her daughter's case after seven months. So, she uses billboards, two of which say "Still no arrests?" and "How Come, Chief Willoughby?," to spur some action.

Frances McDormand says the words “f—,” “p—” and “c—” in Fox Searchlight’s Nsfw trailer for her latest vehicle, “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” … and that’s just in the opening 10-seconds seconds of the preview. The “Fargo” Oscar winner lets the curse words fly as Mildren Hayes, a grieving mother who takes on local enforcement after months with no leads on her daughter’s killer. To get their attention, she erects provocative billboards calling out police chief, William Willoughby (Woody Harrelson), just outside her town. “This doesn’t put an end to s—,” she tells a reporter. “This is just the f—ing start.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri spark widespread havoc in the fantastic red band trailer for Martin McDonagh’s starry crime thriller.
Headed up by Frances McDormand as Mildred Hayes, Three Billboards is a black comedy and proud of it, with enough cussing and shenanigans to warrant an R rating ten times over. Directing from his own script, McDonagh’s latest creative venture orbits around Mildred Hayes, who takes it upon herself to raise awareness for her daughter’s murder case months after it was willfully tossed to the side by the local police department. The result is, well, three rather incendiary billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri that in turn spur the police force into action. Thrust into the midst of that storm is Chief William Willoughby (Han Solo star Woody Harrelson), who struggles to keep a lid on things once Hayes’ campaign for justice begins to take hold.

Full disclosure – I’m a huge fan of this McDonagh and Seven Psychopaths and In Bruges were two of the best films of 2012 and 2008. See both if you missed them in the cinemas!

His 2008 dark comedy In Bruges topped our list of the best comedies of the century so far and now writer-director Martin McDonagh is finally returning five years after Seven Psychopaths with a new film. Ahead of a release later this year by Fox Searchlight, the first trailer for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri has arrived, but be warned: it’s red band due to a plethora of euphoric cussing.
Starring Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell, Abbie Cornish, Caleb Landry Jones, Kathryn Newton, Peter Dinklage, John Hawkes, and Lucas Hedges, the film follows a 50-year-old woman whose daughter is murdered and she goes to war with the police in her home town, because she thinks they are more interested in torturing black people than getting justice.
