“National Treasure: Edge of History” has been canceled at Disney+ after one season, Variety has confirmed.
Based on the “National Treasure” film franchise, Disney’s TV adaptation followed treasure hunter Jess Venezuela. After a stranger gives her a tip about a centuries-old treasure possibly connected to her father, she and her friends set out on the hunt. Lisette Olivera, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Zuri Reed, Antonio Cipriano, Jordan Rodrigues, Jake Austin Walker, and Lyndon Smith were among the cast.
In the season one finale, which aired in February, co-creators Marianne and Cormac Wibberley (who also wrote the first two films) closed the first installment unveiling a “National Treasure” twist. FBI Agent Hendricks (Armando Riesco) — who appeared in both “National Treasure” films and recurred on the series — revealed himself to be the Cras Est Nostrum’s Salazar, a generational title for wizard behind the curtain and had been secretly sabotaging Billie’s (Zeta-Jones) Treasure Destoyer hunts.

“You notice things no one else would notice” is a compliment paid more than once to Jess (Lisette Olivera), the heroine of National Treasure: Edge of History. It’s ostensibly what makes her the ideal spiritual successor to Ben Franklin Gates — the protagonist played in the franchise’s two previous big-screen entries by Nicolas Cage, who does not appear here.
In practice, though, it feels more like the show’s way of insisting that Jess is more interesting than the script actually allows her to be, and its excuse for papering over the carelessness of its mysteries. Jess may have an eye for detail, but her Disney+ series has no patience for them — it’s less an intricately crafted puzzle than a jumble of half-broken odds and ends.

It is set to premiere in 2019 exclusively on Charter’s Spectrum as the platform’s first major original series.
Former CSI: NY showrunner Pam Veasey has come on board as executive producer/co-showrunner of the series alongside Margolis and Sonnier.
Sony TV took out the action pilot, a spinoff from the Bad Boys movie franchise, immediately after the project’s original network, NBC, surprisingly passed on it. Charter Communications quickly emerged as a likely potential home, starting talks with Sony TV just days later. With the deal in advanced stages, Sony TV has been selling La’s Finest internationally.

Joe Carnahan, the director of films such as Smokin' Aces, The A-Team, The Grey, and the upcoming Bad Boys 3, is set to write a new script for Sony Pictures' big-screen adaptation of the hit video game Uncharted.
The film project has been in development for years, but the studio seems to trust that Carnahan can deliver a solid script. I can only imagine that his script will be very unconventional like the rest of this movies are. Carnahan will not direct the film. While talking to Variety, he said he wouldn't have the time unless the production date is pushed back. He told them:
“In a perfect world I would love to do both, but right now, I’m only on board to write the script.”
He's gearing up to direct Will Smith in Bad Boys 3 soon. He seems extremely excited to have the opportunity to be involved with Uncharted,...

Sony’s attempt to turn the Uncharted game series from PlayStation success into potential movie franchise just can’t seem to get past the loading screen. In another blow for the project, director Seth Gordon has decided to move on. Treasure hunter Nathan Drake would seem to be a good fit for cinema, with his Indiana Jones-style attitude and scope for adventure. But try as it might, the studio just hasn’t been able to make it work. Writers such as Kyle Ward, David O. Russell (who also wanted to direct), Marianne and Cormac Wibberley, David Guggenheim and Mark Boal have all tried to crack it and Neil Burger briefly considered directing before heading off to do Divergent. What’s the hold up this time? As originally reported by Heroic Hollywood, it’s apparently financial issues, as Sony boss Tom Rothman wants to change the creative direction of the film...

The director of The King Of Kong, Seth Gordon, is now in line to direct the Uncharted movie...
The movie based on the Uncharted videogame series has been in development for a while now, and several directors have been linked. Most notably, David O Russell and Limitless' Neil Burger were on board the project at one stage, before both opted to pass.
Well, it looks like the movie is back in business. Seth Gordon is now reportedly in negotiations to direct the film, which last we heard had Marianne and Cormac Wibberley (National Treasure) working on the screenplay.
Gordon, of course, came to prominence with a videogame movie, the quite brilliant documentary The King Of Kong. Since then, he's directed a trio of hit comedies, in the shape of Horrible Bosses, Identity Thief and Four Christmases. For our money, The King Of Kong...

The last update we heard on Sony's gestating adaptation of the video game Uncharted: Drake's Fortune had Neil Burger leaving the director's chair as Marianne and Cormac Wibberley, the duo behind the National Treasure franchise, were hired to write a new draft of the script. However, since then, Safe House writer David Guggenheim has written a new draft (in addition to scripting Bad Boys 3 for the studio), and that has the project back in development with Horrible Bosses helmer Seth Gordon making the jump to the action genre with the video game adaptation. However, Gordon is no stranger to video games on film. Gordon made a name for himself after directing the documentary King of Kong, the underdog story about an everyman competing for the world record high score in the original Donkey Kong arcade game. Since then, Gordon has taken on studio comedies like Four Christmases, Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief.

At one point, Mark Wahlberg and Robert De Niro were set to re-team with director David O Russell (The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook) for a big screen adaptation of the "Uncharted" video game franchise. After it became clear that Russell never played the game, the director ended up dropping out. Soon, director Neil Burger (Limitless) was brought on to helm from a script by "National Treasure" writers Marianne and Cormac Wibberley. But that also didn't work out. And now comes word that Naughty Dog, the creator of the video game, has been in talks with "This is the End" co-directors Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg to write the script for "Uncharted" and possibly direct the film. .They're constantly asking me and Evan to make the 'Uncharted' movie," said Rogen. Goldberg added that they've been offered the job multiple times over the last four years. While Rogen and Goldberg are fans of the game,...

Naughty Dog has long known who the video game developer wants to write the perfect movie of "Uncharted": Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. With Naughty Dog's games published by Sony and Rogen and Goldberg having just premiered their directorial debut "This Is The End" through the company, it seems like a match made in heaven.
"They're constantly asking me and Evan to make the 'Uncharted' movie," Rogen tells IGN.
So why have they turned down the job? According to Goldberg, it's because this version of the movie would just "be 'Indiana Jones.'" "If we could figure out a way to make it not Indiana Jones, it'd be awesome," he says.
Though the "Uncharted" movie has been in development since 2007, there hasn't been much forward momentum on it. For a time David O. Russell was supposed to direct it with Mark Wahlberg playing Nathan Drake, though both ultimately left the project.

Surprise, surprise... another respected director has apparently had second thoughts about directing a movie based on a video game and decided to jump ship. Last summer it was announced that Neil Burger (Limitless, The Illusionist) had signed on to direct Uncharted: Drake's Fortune for Sony, replacing David O. Russell. Now we have learned that Burger is no longer attached to the project and that, for the moment, there is no immediate replacement. They will wait to find a new director until another draft of the script is turned in by Marianne and Cormac Wibberley (National Treasure). The news comes courtesy of Variety, although there is no word on why Burger decided to leave. The focus is on the hiring of the Wibberleys, who seem like a decent match based on their National Treasure experience, although they also have plenty of other questionable credits to their name including Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle,...

At one point, Mark Wahlberg was set to star in a big screen version of "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" video game, to be directed by his "The Fighter" helmer David O Russell. After a few interviews, it became clear that Russell was clueless about the game and ended up dropping out of the project. Neil Burger (Limitless) quickly stepped in to replace him. That was over a year ago. Variety has now learned that Burger is no longer attached, but Sony Pictures is still interested in turning the property into a feature film. To keep things moving, the studio has hired "National Treasure" writers Marianne and Cormac Wibberley to pen the script. The duo also wrote "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" and are the creators of USA Network's "Common Law" series.

Sony’s planned big-screen adaptation of the hit video game series Uncharted has been stuck in neutral for awhile now, but things may finally be moving forward with today’s announcement that new screenwriters are working diligently to get the project off the ground. National Treasure scribes Marianne and Cormac Wibberley have landed the job of bringing wisecracking treasure hunter Nathan Drake to a theater near you. The duo is an interesting choice for the project, given that both National Treasure films were lighthearted adventures, which fit in with the tone of the game series nicely. Current plans have the Wibberley’s penning a new script for the film. Once completed, Sony will shop it around to various filmmakers and see who’s interested. Director Neil...

Just yesterday it was revealed that Neil Burger was in talks to direct Divergent, the first film in a hopeful franchise based on the New York Times bestselling young adult novel series by Veronica Roth. Now it appears that project is taking the place of another in Burger's future slate as Variety has word that the Limitless director is no longer attached to helm the adaptation of the video game Uncharted: Drake's Fortune for Atlas Entertainment. That leaves the project without a director for the second time as David O. Russell was previously attached to the project, but also fell away from it in favor of other films. More below! However, the project is still alive and kicking as Marianne and Cormac Wibberley, the duo behind the National Treasure franchise, have been tapped to write the film at Sony now. The studio will wait until the script, which will focus...

Nathan Drake has been shot at, dropped from heights, in train crashes, plane, crashes--you name it. But it seems like his greatest challenge will be making the leap from consoles to the big screen.
First director David O. Russell (Three Kings, The Fighter) made his exit from the planned Uncharted movie and now Limitless director Neil Burger has handed in his notice to Sony Pictures.
Since the movie was announced back in 2010, the studio has had to deal with not only scheduling with its first director but fan outcry over plot details (Russell was looking to make Drake part of a family of treasure hunters) to casting (Mark Wahlberg was being eyed for the lead role). When he made his exit last year and Neil Burger was brought on, that should have kept things going but with The Illusionist's director taking a walk, it looks like Sony is back at square one,...

The Playstation video game franchise Uncharted – which mixes Indiana Jones with Tomb Raider – seems tailor-made for a feature-film adaptation. And yet, creative minds have come and gone, leaving the game on the shelf for the time being. David O. Russell and Mark Wahlberg almost cracked the Uncharted code. Then Limitless director Neil Burger gave it a shot. The latest names attached to an Uncharted movie are Marianne and Cormac Wibberley, the writing team behind Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle and the two National Treasure movies. Does that inspire confidence? We shall see. [Variety] Cyclist Lance Armstrong released a statement Friday saying “Enough is enough,” claiming that he’d stop fighting against anti-doping...

Director Neil Burger (Limitless) was attached to direct Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune for Sony, but has left the project. It actually works out because Sony just hired two new writers to redo the script.
Marianne and Cormac Wibberley (National Treasure, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle) have been brought in by Sony to rewrite the film adaptation of their hit video game franchise. Variety is reporting Sony will not choose a new director until the Wibberley’s are finished with their script.
Here’s the game’s synopsis from Uncharted‘s developer Naughty Dog:
A 400-year-old clue in the coffin of Sir Francis Drake sets Nathan Drake on an exploration for the fabled treasure of El Dorado, leading to the discovery of a forgotten island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

It's all change again on videogame adventure adaptation Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, with new writers arriving and another director departing. As you may have surmised from the news elsewhere here this morning, Neil Burger has left Uncharted behind, with a view to directing Summit Entertainment's Divergent instead. But coming through the revolving door in the other direction are Marianne and Cormac Wibberley, who'll be taking a new pass at the screenplay. The Wibberleys wrote the Schwarzenegger vehicle The Sixth Day; Charlie's Angels sequel Full Throttle; I, Spy, with Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson, and the animated guinea pig shenanigans of G-Force. They also recently took a crack at the Highlander remake, but their most relevant experience for Uncharted is on the National Treasure films, both of which globe-trotting, loot-hunting Nic Cage adventures they penned for Jerry Bruckheimer. The Uncharted series, should you be unaware, is a globe-trotting, loot-hunting set of...

"National Treasure" film series scribes Marianne and Cormac Wibberley have been set to rewrite the script for the big-budget video game series adaptation "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" at Sony Pictures, Atlas Entertainment and Arad Productions says Variety.
Based on the first game in Naughty Dog's acclaimed and popular Playstation game series, the story charts the journey of Nathan Drake, supposed descendant of the explorer Francis Drake, as he seeks the lost treasure of El Dorado with the help of journalist Elena Fisher and mentor Victor "Sully" Sullivan.
The likes of David O. Russell and more recently Neil Burger ("Limitless") were attached to direct, but that is no longer the case. The studio is opting to wait until the Wibberleys complete their script before settling on a new helmer.

Neil Burger is doing a bit of project swapping. While the Limitless director was attached to helm Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - the video game adaptation that David O. Russell also abandoned - he has decided to move on and instead is now in talks to helm the new teen film Divergent. While losing a director is rarely a good thing, there is some good news for the Uncharted movie. According to Variety, Marianne and Cormac Wibberley have been hired to do a rewrite of the video game movie. The two scribes are best known for writing both National Treasure and National Treasure: Book of Secrets. The screenwriters behind Disney's National Treasure franchise, Marianne and Cormac Wibberley, have been hired by Sony Pictures to re-write the script for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. This is a video game adaptation many of us have been excited about since it was first announced. Apparently the studio just can't seem to move it forward into production.
David O' Russell was the first director attached to it. Limitless director Neil Burger took his place, but now he's no longer attached to direct it either. The studio will wait until the script is complete before they go out and hire another director.
I'm not the biggest fan of the National Treasure franchise, but I can see why Sony wanted them to take a crack at the script. National Treasure has a lot of similarities to Uncharted. Except Uncharted is a lot more bad ass, and the video games had better stories and scripts than the National Treasure movies.

Neil Burger (Limitless) is no longer attached to helm the best-selling video game to live-action film project, and the studio will now reportedly look for a new director once this latest draft of the script has been completed. Uncharted has had a troubled production up until this point, especially as fans panicked when they discovered that David O. Russell's take would not have been at all faithful to the beloved series. Now that Burger is no longer attached, it might be a while until Nathan Drake makes his movie debut. A new writer is set to take on Summit Entertainment's remake of the 1986 fantasy favorite, Highlander, which tells the story of a group of immortals who can only kill each other via decapitation, and acquire their foe's powers whenever they take their life.
The studio has entered into negotiations with Melissa Rosenberg to craft the latest draft of the script, which has seen a few writers work on it already. Rosenberg is best known for her work on The Twilight Saga, where she penned the scripts for Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and both parts of Breaking Dawn.
This may make Highlander fans uneasy and worried about a remake they likely don't even want to see to begin with, but fear not. While the Twilight franchise is a painful blemish on cinematic history, Rosenberg has some much better credits to her name, namely the eleven episodes of Dexter that she has written.

Melissa Rosenberg, the scribe who adapted the four "Twilight" books into films, is in negotiations to to work on Summit's planned remake of cult 1986 hit "Highlander" reports the trades.
In "Highlander", after centuries of dueling to survive against others like him, Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish swordsman must confront the last of his kind, a murderously brutal barbarian, who lusts for the fabled Prize of the power that comes with there being only one of their kind left.
Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown starred in the original which was followed by four further films and a TV spin-off series. Summit's film will expand on the original Highlander's core mythology and according to the press release the plan is very much to "spur a new franchise for the studio".
Art Marcum and Matt Holloway penned the early draft, Cormac Wibberley and Marianne Sellek Wibberley also worked on the script.
