20th Century Fox bought the screenplay to 1985's "Commando" from "Teen Wolf" screenwriters Jeph Loeb and Matthew Weisman with the plan to slot Arnold Schwarzenegger into the lead role. Even after the big success of James Cameron's "The Terminator" a year earlier, Schwarzenegger saw "Commando" as a big deal. He explained why in Empire's oral history:
"'Commando' was a big step forward for me. I had only done 'Conan' and 'Terminator,' but now I got to play a gentle, loving father. He is also a fighting machine that will not stop until his objective is complete."
In the film, he plays John Matrix, a retired U.S. Army Colonel who must rescue his daughter (Alyssa Milano) after she's kidnapped by a group of mercenaries. The film allowed Schwarzenegger to showcase his wits and humor and served as the model for his macho, quippy one-liner films that followed.

Con Air, Last Action Hero, Brainscan and Die Hard 4.0 could all have been very different films, going by the early drafts of their scripts.
The life of a Hollywood screenwriter might sound like a glamorous one, but it's not all premieres and champagne.
As one of the smaller cogs in an often complex machine, the writer can often find his or her work changed almost beyond recognition by other hands. Such is the case with the following movies, which were all changed quite drastically in one way or another between their original draft and their final cut.
Some scripts were pressed into service as sequels. Some began in one genre and wound up in another. Rather than put together an exhaustive list, we've chosen a few examples of the script changes that intrigued or bemused us most.

Commando is an Arnold Schwarzenegger action movie always worth revisiting.
Imagine being Arnold Schwarzenegger circa 1985. You’ve won the Mr. Universe bodybuilding competition five times and Mr. Olympia seven times. Moving to the Us in 1968 with dreams of becoming a movie star, you made your first film appearance within two years (the best-forgotten Hercules In New York) and managed to land a Golden Globe for your turn in Bob Rafelson's Stay Hungry (1976).
By the mid-80s, you’d landed two massive hits at the box-office: Conan the Barbarian in 1982 and The Terminator in 1984. Okay, so you’ve had a few missteps along the way, but let’s face it: you’re still only 38, you’re built like a Greek statue, and you’re a star. The world’s at your feet.
Directed by Mark Lester, 1985’s Commando is steeped in the swagger of Schwarzenegger in his pomp.

Teen Wolf is back on our radar, and you know what that means: it’s time for me to once again start harassing those of you who have not yet given the show a try, and once again tell you that it has really nothing to do with the 1980s Michael J. Fox movie, beyond a couple of the names and the fact that the main character is a high school student who becomes a werewolf.
It’s actually on my very limited A list, because the cast chemistry is out of the park, the stories are twisty, and the pace is fast. Plus, everyone is gorgeous, in a but-they-don’t-flaunt-it sort of way. It isn’t whiny at all, and is a perfect summer watch. Okay, maybe this will help some of you:
How about now? And yes, the girls are just as charmingly attractive. Here’s the latest...

We have told you over and over again that MTV‘s Teen Wolf is an excellent show, and we really hope you’ve been watching, especially now. The first season was great, but this second season has been on a headlong run up the ramp of Are You Kidding Me straight to last week’s Come On You Can’t Just Leave Us Hanging There.
The only thing that will help us manage the void in our lives once we’ve devoured tonight’s season finale is the knowledge that Season 3 will be twice as long. Well, that, and the Teen Wolf Revelations that we’ll get, directly following the finale.
There Will Be Blood, In The Much-anticipated “Teen Wolf” Season Two Finale Airing Monday, August 13 At 10:00 P.M. Et/Pt On MTV Stay Tuned for the “Teen Wolf: Revelations” After Show Immediately Following at 11:00 P.M. Et/Pt

Teen Wolf: The Complete Season One
Stars: Tyler Posey, Crystal Reed, Dylan O’Brien, Holland Roden, Colton Haynes, Tyler Hoechlin | Based on the movie ‘Teen Wolf’ by Jeph Loeb, Matthew Weisman | Developed by Jeff Davis
Ok, I’ll admit it. When I first heard that MTV had plans to air an update of the classic 80s Michael J. Fox flick Teen Wolf I was up in arms. How could they desecrate one of my all-time, Top 10 favourite films (I have the logo tattooed on my arm)? I was what you would call a hater. But then the buzz started to build. The show was getting good reviews out of the Us and I had the opportunity to interview stars Tyler Posey and Dylan O’Brien at the London McM Expo last year, so I checked out a few episodes. Turns out it wasn’t as bad as I predicted….

I came to a startling conclusion will watching the 1985 cult classic Teen Wolf on Blu-ray this week. Not that Scott Howard’s friend in the movie is actually named “Boof,” and not “Booth” as I originally thought for over 25 years, but that Teen Wolf stinks. While fans can argue the film’s impact on pop culture all they want, viewing Teen Wolf through the eyes of an adult (mine) is more chore than fun.
Based on a sad script by Joseph Loeb and Matthew Weisman –stuffed with too many eye-rolling moments and flat jokes, Teen Wolf joins the ’80s other “good as a kid, bad as an adult” arch-pantheon of schlock like Knight Rider, Fraggle Rock and M.A.S.K. But not Snorks. That stuff is golden.
Starring ’80s icon Michael J. Fox, Teen Wolf centers on Scott Howard, a puny 17-year-old with ambitions grander than working in his...

Here's a really big rumor being reported by Articlesbase.com that once Tom Welling is finished with Smallville he will move on to star in a new feature film remake of the 1985 film Teen Wolf.
This information comes from a source that is currently working on the new Teen Wolf TV series being developed for MTV. The new Teen Wolf feature film reboot will be a little different from the original, the biggest change is that the werewolf will be a teenage girl. Here's what thew site had to say,
Teen Wolf, which was originally led by actor Michael J. Fox, showcases a high school student who discovers that his family has an odd heritage and eventually finds himself transforming into a werewolf. Released in 1985, the movie was directed by Rod Daniel, and was co-written by Jeph Loeb and Matthew Weisman. As for Welling’s upcoming movie, his version will...

At a lean 88 minutes but with a bulky hero, "Firestorm" is a respectable action-adventure about smoke jumpers, forest-fire fighters who parachute into emergency situations with their trusty Pulaskis and save the day. Alas, 20th Century Fox's wide release, its first salvo of 1998, will burn out quickly after an uninspiring opening weekend.
"Fox NFL Sunday" co-host and former Raiders defender Howie Long is the marquee attraction in the directorial debut of cinematographer Dean Semler, an Oscar winner for "Dances With Wolves" and all-pro genre veteran ("Waterworld", "The Last Action Hero").
Filmed splendidly in wide screen by Stephen F. Windon ("The Postman"), "Firestorm" shares with Jan De Bont's "Speed" a calculated recklessness in storytelling and execution that relies heavily on visuals with minimal characterizations. But rookie Chris Soth's screenplay is mostly unbelievable, and the main attraction has the personality and lines of a friendly robot.
Cutting an impressive figure as he leaps from helicopters and off cliffs, Long deserves more. He's mean and in command when there's a backfire to be lit, but there's no back story to ignite his charisma. While there is a damsel in distress -- Suzy Amis as a gutsy ornithologist -- there are no romantic sparks for the superguy as he saves people threatened by falling trees and such.
Opposite the muscle-man treatment of Long's character, there must be a villain, but Semler gives William Forsythe enough room to make his escaping convict a memorable rat. Reliable Scott Glenn is the film's injured quarterback, who rejoins the hero business when a busload of firemen is toasted but not baked.
Blazing computers swing into action for the disaster-movie conclusion in which heroes and villains are caught in a speedy inferno.
Overall, this shameless scorcher employs enough image-distorting heat waves and closeups of matches to explore fully the incendiary milieu. The stunts are sizzling, and the sound and editing are hot stuff, but J. Peter Robinson's routine score fizzles.
