Juliet Landau writes, directs and appears in this complex hybrid of fiction and documentary that seeks to investigate our fascination with vampires
‘You’re that girl from Buffy,” someone says to actor-writer-director Juliet Landau at one point in A Place Among the Dead. Landau makes that thumbnail description of herself – she is indeed best known for playing the vampiric Drusilla in multiple episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spinoff Angel – a badge of both honour and shame in this peculiar mockumentary-horror-psychodrama mashup. Depending on the angle of view, it’s either an excoriation of Hollywood narcissism and solipsism, or a product of it. As such, it suggests that Landau is clearly an interesting and complicated character, but her direction here is less compelling, given what a mess it is by the end.
The idea is that Landau, as herself, is making a doc with her husband-cinematographer Dev (real-life...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel actress Juliet Landau is quite the expert on vampires, having spent seven years portraying Drusilla in the TV shows.
Now she plans to put that to good use and create the 'definitive vampire genre documentary' alongside her husband Deverill Weekes.
The actress - who is seeking crowdfunding support to bring the documentary to screen - has gathered interviews with many experts on the genre, including directors, writers and actors across film, television and novels.
Buffy and Angel creator Joss Whedon has taken part, as has Tim Burton, who directed Landau in vampire film Dark Shadows alongside Johnny Depp.
Gary Oldman, who played Dracula in Francis Ford Coppola's film of the same name, will make an appearance, as will Anne Rice and Charlaine Harris, authors of Interview with the Vampire and the True Blood novels respectively.
The documentary's description reads: "It is a tapestry with beautiful,...

Without a doubt, when I was looking through the schedule for the first day of Stan Lee’S Comikaze, “Vampires In Pop Culture And Myth” stood out as the must-see. This was due not only to my love of monsters, but also to a star-studded panel moderated by Buffy and Angel star Juliet Landau (Drusilla!), who was joined by the masterminds of Grimm, writers David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf (who also worked on Buffy and Angel), Mariana Klaveno of True Blood fame (Lorena to you), musician David J (from the bands Bauhaus, Love and Rockets), Gavin Hignight of FEARnet, and Georges Jeanty, the artist for Buffy Season 8, 9, and for the upcoming Firefly series.
The panel came together, in part, due to a feature length documentary in the works from Juliet Landau and Deverill Weekes, a project that will explore many of the themes and topics discussed in the panel. I...

Not to be outdone by the zombies and witches who have been stealing their thunder lately, vampires are heading back into the spotlight in a new documentary from former "Buffy/Angel" star Juliet Landau that will feature the likes of author Anne Rice and Dracula himself, Gary Oldman.
Synopsis:
The feature length documentary A Place Among the Dead, directed by Juliet Landau and Deverill Weekes (pictured right), is an exploration of the cultural obsession with vampires and what they reveal about the human psyche.
Juliet has a rare vantage point, having portrayed the iconic vampire Drusilla on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and its spin-off show, "Angel."
The film delves into myths, movies, television, literature, music, comic books, subcultures, and true crime. It chronicles the fun, imaginative, creative side and alternatively, the dark, disturbing side.
Interviewees are Gary Oldman (Bram Stoker's Dracula), Anne Rice (pictured below with Landau; Interview with the Vampire), David Greenwalt,...

Juliet Landau has now released her second film (her first was the dark music video Hero) Take Flight – a documentary focusing on actor Gary Oldman making a music video for the Jewish hip hop band 'Chutzpah'. Landau, who has appeared on the Tv series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and in the Tim Burton film Ed Wood, was asked to shoot a ‘making of’ for Oldman, a friend of hers, and the resulting footage became an experience all its own. Over 50 hours of footage, from a cell phone with Pov shots to 3 cameras at once, were cut into this short.
We're happy to have Landau back with us again, discussing Take Flight along with her upcoming films The Yellow Wallpaper and Haunted Echoes...
With complete free reign, Landau pieced together a film that
“Shows a very light, playful, childlike, fluid, free, funny side to Gary... It’s like being inside his head,...

Panic at the Disco, Taking Back Sunday, Chester French and Asher Roth can't wait to hit the road with reunited trio.

Blink-182's multi-band summer extravaganza — a.k.a. "the tour that may or may not be called One-Way Ticket to Bonerville" — doesn't kick off until July 24, but it's already a huge deal ... and not just for long-suffering Blink fans, but for the bands Blink are taking on the road too.
Last week, MTV News spoke to Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz, who called his band's slot on the bill "a dream come true." And as we've spoken to the other acts on the tour — a list that also includes Weezer, the All-American Rejects, Panic at the Disco, Taking Back Sunday, Asher Roth and Chester French — we've been hearing much of the same.

It's so Hollywood for an actor to admit that what he or she really wants to do is direct. And it's even more Hollywood for an actor to direct an actor directing, in some vain attempt at creating a vehicle for a side career. But in the case of Juliet Landau — daughter of Martin Landau and Barbara Bain and most recognized for her role as Drusilla in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel — her first directing project is innovative and feels surprisingly un-Hollywood. Landau's short, Take Flight (www.julietlandaustakeflight.com), began as a basic making-of documentary for a nanobudget music video Gary Oldman directed while shooting this summer's blockbuster Dark Knight. Take Flight is a technologically groundbreaking yet intimate glimpse into Oldman's creative process. Not only does the audience get to see a goofier, looser, and even wistful side to the actor whose characters are usually borderline psychotic, but because...
