Liam Gallagher and John Squire have revealed the full details of their upcoming collaboration, including an album with the expository title Liam Gallagher John Squire and world tour dates. They’re previewing the LP, due in March, with a new single, “Mars to Liverpool.”
Gallagher explained the collaboration as such: “I think the people that are into the Stone Roses and Oasis and that kinda thing, I think they’ll fucking love it.” And indeed, “Mars to Liverpool,” sounds like the middle of a Venn diagram between Oasis’ simple, poppy melodies — “Here comes that feeling,...

Liam Gallagher of Oasis and John Squire of The Stone Roses have revealed “Mars to Liverpool,” the latest song from their forthcoming collaborative album. Additionally, they’ve confirmed a release date for the self-titled LP, which is slated for March 1st, as well as announced an initial run of supporting tour dates.

The duo’s supporting tour, which launches in the UK beginning on March 13th, features a live lineup of Gallagher, Squire, and Waronker, as well as Barrie Cadogan on bass. Jake Bugg will appear as special guest on all shows except in Brooklyn. Tickets go on sale Friday, February 2nd.

Two of Manchester’s most famous exports, Oasis’ Liam Gallagher and The Stone Roses’ John Squire, have confirmed they are releasing a collaborative album. Though full details haven’t been announced, the duo did reveal the first single, titled “Just Another Rainbow,” will arrive on January 5th.
Though Gallagher and Squire have known each other since 1989, and previously co-wrote “Love Me and Leave Me” for Squire’s band The Seahorses, the project didn’t come into focus until after Squire joined Gallagher on stage for “Champagne Supernova” at his solo show at Knebworth Park in 2022. Soon after, Squire sent Gallagher an initial batch of songs and the duo began collaborating remotely, with Jimi Hendrix, The Sex Pistols, Faces, Bob Marley, and The Bee Gees as “reference points.”
To begin recording the project, Gallagher went to Squire’s studio in Macclesfield, where he laid down vocals for two demos per day.

There were few bands on the planet bigger than R.E.M. in the mid-Nineties. Their popularity grew every year in the Eighties before they went supernova the following decade thanks to hits like “Losing My Religion,” “Man on the Moon,” “Everybody Hurts,” and “What’s the Frequency, Kenneth?” Warner Bros. was so desperate to keep them on the label in 1996 that it gave them $80 million for their next five albums, breaking all industry records up to that point.

Controversial artist Roger Waters is back with a controversial new release: a re-recording of Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon, made without the involvement of any of the other members of Pink Floyd. Listen to The Dark Side of the Moon Redux below via Apple Music or Spotify.
Beyond giving Waters the opportunity to one-up his estranged bandmates, re-recording one of the most famous albums of all time appeared to give the artist a chance to update its message for modern times, with a matured perspective. “The original Dark Side of the Moon feels in some ways like the lament of an elder being on the human condition,” Waters said in a statement. “But Dave [Gilmour], Rick [Wright], Nick [Mason], and I were so young when we made it, and when you look at the world around us, clearly the message hasn’t stuck. Roger Waters has shared a new version of “Time” from his forthcoming solo LP, The Dark Side Of The Moon Redux.
Instead of commenting on the track, Waters offered up a series of lines that reflect the song’s lyrics as a statement: “Ticking away……./ The voice had been there all along/ Hidden in the stones in the rivers/ Hidden in all the books/ Hidden in plain sight/ It was the voice of reason/ Thought I’d something more to say………”

Roger Waters is gearing up to release a newly recorded version of Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side Of The Moon. The Waters’ version, officially dubbed The Dark Side Of The Moon Redux, arrives on October 6th. Ahead of its release, Waters has shared his re-recording of “Time.”
Similar to his version of “Money,” Waters slows down and scales back the psychedelic instrumentation of “Time” in order to play a greater emphasis on his vocals. Take a listen below.
The Dark Side Of The Moon Redux was produced by Waters along with Gus Seyffert and features a studio band consisting of Seyffert, Joey Waronker, Jonathan Wilson, Johnny Shepherd, and Jon Carin. Notably, the other surviving members of Pink Floyd who helped to create the original album, including David Gilmour and Nick Mason, do not appear on the recordings. Pre-orders are now ongoing.

Roger Waters, would rather re-record old Pink Floyd music than reunite with the band’s surviving members for a new tour. Early in 2010, Bret McKenzie decided it was about time he started guitar lessons. The New Zealand-born actor and songwriter enrolled himself in a class at the Silverlake Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, a music school founded in 2001 by Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea. McKenzie’s new guitar teacher was naturally curious about what had inspired him to head back to school alongside children and beginners. He told him he had a show coming up. “He was like: ‘Oh that’s good, where are you playing?’” recalls the 46-year-old in his broad Kiwi accent. Sitting in the light and airy home studio above his garage in Wellington, he contorts his more-salt-than-pepper beard into an awkward grimace. “I was like: ‘Er, yeah... we’re playing the Hollywood Bowl.” He bursts out laughing. “Something very strange happened there.”

The first Who album in 13 years opens with a perfectly cynical Pete Townshend lyric: “I don’t care/I know you’re gonna hate this song.” But it’s kind of hard to hate something that feels so familiar. Roger Daltrey sings the lyric and the ones that follow, claiming the song isn’t “new” or “diverse,” with the same anger and conviction as the Who’s earliest music, recorded more than half a century ago, and the melody is almost identical to the opening “I don’t mind” of...

Santa Monica—Sandwiched in between his two Coachella appearances, Beck came in from the dusty desert to play an intimate show for Kcrw’s Apogee Sessions here Wednesday night. The 100-minute performance was twice as long as his Coachella set and certainly under more pleasant, less blustery conditions: the cosy confines of legendary producer/mixer Bob Clearmountain’s studio, which tightly packed in 200 of the public radio station’s supporters. Beck opened with the elegant “The Golden Age” from 2002’s “Sea Change,” before gliding into three songs from his excellent new album (and “Sea Change” sequel of sorts), “Morning Phase”: the Beatle-esque “Blackbird Chain,” mournful “Say Goodbye,” and sorrowful “Don’t Let It Go.” The largely acoustic quartet of tunes allowed Beck to warm up, with his confidence seemingly growing with each song. As he noted, he’d only played the new material a handful of times, and while...

Beck hasn’t been particularly prolific lately when it comes to new studio music. Sure, he’s been busy recording cover albums, producing artists like Thurston Moore and Charlotte Gainsbourg, and collaborating with McSweeney’s on the “Song Reader” sheet-music project, but it’s been more than five years since the release of 2008’s “Modern Guilt.” That break ends tomorrow (24) with “Morning Phase” tomorrow. The album has been tagged a sequel of sorts to Beck’s popular break-up album, 2002’s “Sea Change.” Rather than a true sequel, that descriptor is more useful as shorthand to let the listener know the album is primarily acoustic; song-oriented rather than beats oriented, and confessional. And, like “Sea Change,” regardless of what else Beck records, it will stand out as a gorgeous milestone in his career. “Morning Phase” is an immersive experience that doesn’t lend itself to parsing individual tracks. It’s meant...

Earlier this year, the Red Hot Chili Pepper’s drummer and Will-Ferrell doppelganger, Chad Smith, announced that the band was set to record their new album this September… Thom Yorke came along.
Yorke along with Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker, Mauro Refosco and Chili Pepper’s own Flea joined forces to form the super group Atoms for Peace in 2009. Their debut album ‘Amok’ was released this past February and the band wasted no time going on tour – with dates scheduled through November.
With Flea tearing it up on stage, Chili Peppers member Josh Klinghoffer predicted recording could possibly be delayed until early 2014. But while we may be stuck listening to same 11 albums for a little longer, Flea is continuing to have a kickass year – doing back-to-back tours with two different bands and even returning to the big screen in the movie Low Down.

Los Angeles — Southern California has been good for Thom Yorke.
It's the home base for his 4-year-old band Atoms For Peace, meaning he's making occasional tough cross-continent commuter flights from the United Kingdom but also hiking up to Griffith Observatory and surfing with Atoms bassist Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The very English Radiohead frontman said Los Angeles is steadily working its magic on him.
"I find it hard to work in Britain all the time," Yorke said. "Because I've grown up with it and it's what I know. And I've also grown up with the cynicism that's in the genes. Sometimes it's good to try and wash that out. Generally in my work, it's really helped me a lot. And it's fed back into the Radiohead thing too. Maybe it's just getting old but I'm loosening up with all my ... stupid rules about what works, what doesn't work.

Thom Yorke has provided the score for a documentary about tax avoidance.
The Radiohead frontman was joined by Massive Attack's Robert Del Naja to work on actor Dominic West's The UK Gold, reports The Daily Telegraph.
Directed by Mark Donne, the film will premiere at the Troxy Theatre London on June 25 as part of the East End Film Festival.
The film sets out to reveal Britain's status as a tax haven.
"This is a political documentary, but more than anything else it is an extraordinary story," said Donne.
"To have a quintessentially English figure embarking on an odyssey to understand how London remains the financial capital of the world is in itself a fascinating narrative. To have this journey unfurling at the exact time that the eyes of the world were on this country, during the Jubilee and the Olympics, gives the story a powerful twist.

Thom Yorke’s Atoms for Peace, the supergroup he has formed with multi-instrumentalist Nigel Godrich, Beck/R.E.M drummer Joey Waronker, Brazilian percussive master Mauro Refosco and the bare-chested slap-bass master of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Flea, released their debut album Amok last week. It caused befuddlement, mediocre reviews and a general shrug of apathy, despite a very eye-catching and original video for single Ingenue.
The problem is, apart from the super-loyalists of the Yorke opus, people just don’t seem to get it. On top of this, and perhaps more crucially, people seem unmoved by it.
Why is this we wonder? Well, the pitch is a tricky one.
First up, there is an anti-nuclear agenda to the identity and positioning of the group. Ok, fine, Thom Yorke’s well known for and and very vocal about his environmental leanings. And that’s a good thing, right? So,...

The musicians convened for a 3 day studio session in L.A. during which the band sought to recreate the electronic sounds that Yorke had previously conceived, after which Yorke sliced, diced and rearranged the pieces before layering his vocals over the results.

Atoms for Peace, "Amok" (Xl Recordings)
Since it was first used to describe the rock band Cream in the 1960s, the term supergroup hasn't always lived up to its moniker. The idea of assembling players from different bands isn't always grand, and rarely does it produce an exponential group effort.
Cream, Audioslave and the Travelling Wilburys are a few that triumphed through the sum of its parts. But for every success story, there have been numerous all-star lineups that were too predictable and somewhat boring. One of them is even named after a continent.
But Asia aside, merging players in a band is truly a tricky business.
So it makes you wonder why Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke teamed up with Red Hot Chili Peppers' bassist Flea and others in Atoms for Peace.

Atoms For Peace is the project name for Thom Yorke’s full band when he’s gone solo, and structurally the album “Amok” shows he’s still its leader. For it, the Radiohead frontman assembled a mighty drum circle. Nigel Godrich, Flea, Joey Waronker, Mauro Refosco and Yorke beat, tap, hum and stir their way through a mere nine songs for the album, which feels further abbreviated by it’s ultra-tidy sound. Every tapestry of rhythm churns at a similar clip, with small and short programmed drum sounds rarely stepping in the way of Yorke's falsetto and protracted vowels. “Judge, Jury, Executioner,” one of...

Amok, the long-anticipated first album from Thom Yorke's side project Atoms for Peace, is scheduled to come out next week, but as is common these days, the band has made it available to stream ahead of time. Yorke is backed by a supergroup made up of Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, Beck and R.E.M. drummer Joey Waronker, and percussionist Mauro Refosco (who's worked with David Byrne and Brian Eno). Stream the album below or head to their site if you want to see it visualized with spinning screenshots of the sites that post the stream (including this one!). Don't worry, it doesn't sound like Rhcp and Radiohead played at the same time. ...

Finally, a word directly from Thom Yorke on the future of his Atoms For Peace supercrew: the band has confirmed a new released date, some artwork and a tracklist for album "Amok." The full-length debut will be out via Xl on Feb. 26, a month after initially reported, with the personnel as expected, featuring Radiohead frontman Yorke, longtime collaborator Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker, Mauro Refosco and Flea. The set is only nine tracks long, which is actually unsurprising, considering Radiohead's last effort "The King of Limbs" was only eight. Stanley Donwood, who has also worked with Yorke & Co. for stretches,...

Well, not so very unexpected. Every move has been tracked by fanboys, from the casting of Martin Freeman as Bilbo and Benedict Cumberbatch as the dragon Smaug to the return of the king, Peter Jackson, to take over directing from Guillermo del Toro. But Middle-earth (or, as it's sometimes known, New Zealand) is back for the next three Christmases.

Get ready for two of music's greatest to come together on one album. Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea will join Radiohead singer Thom Yorke along with Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, drummer Joey Waronker and percussionist Mauro Refosco once again to collaborate on an album, Amok, which is set to release early next year, according to Rolling Stone. This group, better known as Atoms for Peace, performed at Coachella in 2010, released their first single "Default" in September. "You may have heard that I have a new project called Atoms for Peace," Yorke wrote the band's website. "The name comes from some shows of The Eraser that...

Members of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Radiohead are collaborating again as the band Atoms for Peace. The group, which performed at Coachella in 2010, is comprised of Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, Radiohead singer Thom Yorke, Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, drummer Joey Waronker, and percussionist Mauro Refosco, who has also recorded with Rhcp.
Atoms for Peace is now set to release a debut album, "Amok," early next year. The record features nine tracks:
"Before Your Very Eyes..." "Default" "Ingenue" "Dropped" "Unless" "Stuck Together Pieces" "Judge, Jury and Executioner" "Reverse Running" "Amok"
The single "Default" was released in September.
"It was a form of madness," Yorke said of making the album in an interview with Rolling Stone. "We'd go in at midday and pretty much work through to 10. We were playing all the time. It was bonkers. We'd stop to change beat. Joey and Mauro would scribe the beat out,...

Thom Yorke's side project Atoms for Peace have confirmed a tracklisting for their upcoming album. The supergroup - who have previously toured - is comprised of Yorke, drummer Joey Waronker, Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea, Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich and Mauro Refosco. Following the release of their first single 'Default' in September, Rolling Stone reports that Amok, the band's first album, will be released in early 2013. In an interview with the magazine, Yorke said of the album: "One of the things we were most excited about was ending up with a record where you weren't quite sure where the human starts and the machine ends." Godrich added: "They are songs, but you also have to give people something that moves. This is the (more)...

Yorke is joined by longtime Radiohead cohort Nigel Godrich, drummer Joey Waronker and Red Hot Chili Peppers players Flea and Mauro Refosco on the solo-project-ish thing, which was recorded out of New York's Electric Lady Studios. Nigel Godrich is a busy dude. Famous as the "sixth member of Radiohead" -- his production work has helped them shape their ever-evolving sound -- Godrich has also produced for Beck, Paul McCartney (yes, the Paul McCartney), Pavement, U2 and indie upstarts Here We Go Magic. He's also a member of Thom Yorke's side project Atoms for Peace along with Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea. However, he still somehow had time to record with his own new band, Ulraista. Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea has revealed that Radiohead's Thom Yorke has been an inspiration for him since their recent collaboration. The pair worked together in their Atoms for Peace supergroup, along with drummer Joey Waronker, Mauro Refosco and producer Nigel Godrich last year. "It influenced me being around Thom," Flea explained. "He's an unbelievably great musician and a beautiful man. He's so pure as an artist. It's less that I would try to copy him and more that just being around someone who channels really powerful energy is beneficial. "It's a relationship I will always hope to nurture." Flea added that he has also enjoyed collaborating with the likes of Damon Albarn and Patti Smith during Red Hot Chili Peppers' two-year hiatus, but that he is now glad to return to the band. Other Lives have long been destined for greatness, or at the very least, critical success. It seemed like the band’s big break was fast approaching when John Mayer added their song to his Myspace player and tried to track the band down to give them kudos for their stellar track “Section 2.” Only one problem: this happened to Kunek, the first iteration of Other Lives. The band decided to re-establish themselves for their debut’s release, changing their moniker and sound. With the recent release of their sophomore album, Tamer Animals, on Tbd Records (label buddies Radiohead are fans too), Other Lives seem fully prepared to take on the music-loving masses.
Other Lives was founded by a group of friends living in the small, Midwestern college town of Stillwater, Oklahoma. The band includes main musical composer Jesse Tabish (piano, guitar, lead vocals), the charming-but-reserved Jenny Hsu (cello,...

Thurston Moore corralled a pretty impressive roster of collaborators for his third album, the acoustic Demolished Thoughts. Beck produces, and he’s in full Mutations mode, creating a warm backdrop for Moore’s strummy laments. Joey Waronker drums gently when called upon, Samara Lubelski adds swirls of violins over his vocals, and Mary Lattimore punctuates these songs with graceful flourishes of harp. All in all, it’s a spirited group that backs him with sensitivity and style....

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World week is finally here! Spinner has kindly allowed both the score and the soundtrack to Edgar Wright‘s latest to stream in its entirety. As for the soundtrack is is completely rockin’ and definitely worth a listen (and many more).
