Heartland is a film that will tear at you, but not for the reasons it hopes. At the heart of Heartland is a story about all the ache, frustration, and alienation the gay community struggles with and through, which would make for the indie gem of the year. Unfortunately, the film is so focused on belaboring the obvious and tired details of its setting, and it does so, somehow, from such an ingenuous perspective that it never really dives into its own effort.
Velinda Godfrey, who co-wrote (with Todd Waring), produced, and stars in Heartland, is Lauren, who we meet as she is suffering through her dying girlfriend’s last hours. With few options, and naturally distraught, she returns home to figure out what she’s going to do with herself. Unfortunately, her mother, Crystal (Beth Grant), is very religious, which means theirs is obviously a tricky relationship. As is perhaps not completely unusual,...

There's straight-to-video shame, then there's straight to TV shame. The following small screen follow-ups, then, are the most shameful of the lot.
Please note, however: all of the following first aired on the small screen. They may have ended up on DVD later, but they're telly specials through and through...
1. Home Alone 5: The Holiday Heist (2012)
Original film: Home Alone (1990)
Returning cast members: None
Stars: Christian Martyn, Jodelle Ferland, Malcolm McDowell
You'll remember the first two, and might have a dim recollection of the third - new kid, new goons - and the fourth will, hopefully, mean nothing to you (old kid, new actor playing kid, old goons, new actors playing goons, shot in South Africa).
The fifth, however, is the biggest stinker of the lot, a schmaltzy Christmas edition with a new kid, new family and new goons. Also, Malcolm McDowell - of Clockwork Orange fame - is in it,...

Castle (Nathan Fillion) meets Beckett (Stana Katic) and brings her coffee and pastry on a Sunday morning. She wonders why he's not at home after slinking in from a scandalous night out. He asks if she's jealous. In his dreams, she's...shall I fill in the gaps by saying, she actually solves a case without his help, ha. Beckett insists she's not grumpy, she's seen the cover art for his new book. Castle's taken aback that she subscribes to his site (everything's about money with him; okay money and women to be fair!) He tells her Nikki Heat's not naked, she's holding a gun, strategically. Anyone who's seen the Castle books can see Nikki Heat is naked and holding a gun! She's glad their partnership is nearly over. Captain Montgomery (Reuben Santiago-Hudson) tells her a two year old girl is missing, abducted and the FBI agent has requested her on the case.

Castle is one of those shows that proves – despite what we cynical bloggers say – that network execs do have a soft spot for a good story with good characters, even in the face of less than stellar numbers. Castle was written off by the bean-counters out here in the arm-chair ratings analysis corp, but ABC gave it another season anyways – and I'm sure nobody is complaining about being wrong. Nathan Fillion is seemingly hater-proof anyways, maybe you could accuse him of being too-likable, and Castle recalls enough Remington Steele with its updated pseudo-noir to be perfectly engrossing. Here is the lowdown on Castle's much anticipated September 7th premiere.
