Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is enacting a revenge plot against the eight House Republicans who ousted him.
In October 2023, McCarthy was booted from his position as House speaker when a group of Republicans joined all Democrats in voting to vacate the chair.
McCarthy is out for revenge against the group that he has dubbed the “Crazy Eight” or “Gaetz Eight” and its leader, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida), who introduced the motion to have the speaker vacated.
The former House speaker left Congress two months later. This ended up shrinking his party’s majority in the chamber.
McCarthy’s ally, Brian Walsh, is working to round up primary challengers to the “Gaetz Eight.”
The ousted speaker is prepared to mobilize his still-sizable donor network to arrange primary challenges. He is focusing on three representatives specifically. His allies believe that Reps. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina), Bob Good (R-Virginia) and Eli Crane...

“The Twelve,” an award-winning Australian crime drama series, has been greenlighted for a second season. It is backed by the Foxtel group and its streaming brand Binge.
The show follows a controversial murder trial seen through the lens of the jurors, twelve ordinary Australians who are facing their own realities and struggles.
The first season received ten nominations, and won three Aacta Awards in 2022 including best miniseries. In recent days, it became the most nominated drama series at the 63rd TV Week Logie Awards.
Season two of “The Twelve” will be eight 1-hour episodes written by Sarah Walker, Anchuli Felicia King, Anya Beyersdorf and Anna Barnes. Local authorities in Western Australia described it as the state’s “biggest-ever screen production,” but divulged no specifics on budget. Filming will take place in the Wheatbelt and Metropolitan regions and create over 100 local jobs, the state government said.

Patrick Delany.
Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany has reassured Australian producers that its commitment to commissioning Australian drama has not wavered.
Some producers expressed concern after it was announced that Penny Win would step down after nearly five years as Foxtel’s head of drama and transition to a consultant role.
Earlier this year Foxtel did call a temporary halt to drama commissions while it reviewed its approach to the genre, raising fears it may reduce its investment in drama after funneling many millions of dollars into sports rights and Svod service Kayo Sports.
However Delany told If today: “We are not shirking or moving away from our commitment to Australian drama. We will continue to commission four series each year.”
More broadly, 75 new and returning dramas are premiering on Foxtel this year. The platform has screened Matchbox’s Secret City: Under the Eagle and Fremantle’s Wentworth and Lingo Pictures’ Lambs of God,...
Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany has reassured Australian producers that its commitment to commissioning Australian drama has not wavered.

Penny Win.
Head of drama Penny Win’s impending departure from Foxtel has raised concerns among the production community over the pay TV platform’s commitment to Australian drama.
Win has stepped down after nearly five years in the post and two years before that as SoHo channel manager and Foxtel Networks commissioning editor for drama.
She is still on the full-time staff but will transition to a consultant, initially on the final 20-episode season of Fremantle’s Wentworth, and beyond that potentially other drama projects.
Drama department executives Carly Heaton and Lana Greenhalgh will now report direct to director of content Ross Crowley.
Among the shows produced under her watch are Picnic at Hanging Rock, Secret City, A Place to Call Home, Fighting Season, Devil’s Playground, Deadline Gallipoli, The Kettering Incident and the upcoming Lambs of God.

Alastair McKinnon.
A generational change is sweeping through Matchbox Pictures as the NBCUniversal-owned production company develops a raft of projects with emerging writers and producers.
“Talent development has always been a priority for Matchbox,” says Alastair McKinnon, who started as MD last December after three years with the ABC, most recently as head of content investment and planning,
McKinnon signed on just as the company founded by Penny Chapman, Tony Ayres, Helen Bowden, Michael McMahon and Helen Panckhurst was celebrating its 10th anniversary. “That was the perfect time to reflect and think about what Matchbox has done incredibly successfully over that time as the leading drama production company in Australia,” he tells If in his first interview since taking charge.
“But the industry has transformed in that 10 years and is unrecognisable if you think about the sorts of shows, how they are financed and the distribution models of drama.
