Update: Paramount Pictures, which owns the rights to "Team America: World Police," has cancelled planned screenings of the film, which was to be shown in place of Sony's now-cancelled release of comedy "The Interview." (Our original report is below.)
Alamo Drafthouse's Dallas/Forth Worth location was one of the theaters that had planned on showing the 2004 flick, which features Kim Jong-il (the father of "The Interview" subject Kim Jong-un). But the chain tweeted on Thursday that the screening, planned for December 27, had been cancelled "due to circumstances beyond our control."

Putting The "F" Back In Freedom. It is a sad day for movie fans in the United States, as Sony has officially cancelled the release of Seth Rogen & James Franco's new comedy The Interview thanks to hacker terrorist threats. Everyone has been following the Sony Pictures Hack story for weeks, as the studio was hacked and files have been leaking non-stop. Today, after movie theaters backed out due to an actual threat of harm to anyone attending screenings of the movie, the studio has decided to pull the release entirely. In response, James Wallace of the Alamo Drafthouse theater in Dallas / Fort Worth will be showing Matt Stone and Trey Parker's 2004 puppet comedy, Team America: World Police, instead. Take that, North Korea! Many cinephiles are bringing up Team America: World Police in response to this situation because it makes fun of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-il, and yet it wasn't attacked or pulled.

Beloved Dallas-Fort Worth cinema The Alamo Drafthouse has come up with one solution to the hole left by the cancellation of the release of Sony's "The Interview". The cinema chain had intended to screen the movie until it was pulled, instead they now plan to show free screenings of 2004's "Team America: World Police".

After Sony canceled the release of the North Korea assassination comedy The Interview, a Texas theater said it would swap the film with Paramount's 2004 film Team America: World Police for one free screening. "We're just trying to make the best of an unfortunate situation," James Wallace, creative manager and programmer at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema's Dallas/Fort Worth location, tells The Hollywood Reporter. American flags and other patriotic items will be given out by theater employees, Wallace says. It's been a busy month for Alamo Drafthouse founder and CEO Tim League with new locations opening across the "Magnited States of America," from north Austin to Dallas/Fort Worth and even Yonkers, New York. I was most excited by the new location at Lakeline, the largest Drafthouse location to date with ten screens and a craft beer-themed bar. Glass Half Full offers a 32 craft beer lineup, including 9 rotating taps of special and season beer selections comprised mostly of Texas brews.
The intriguing beer cocktails and mixes concocted by Drafthouse beverage director Bill Norris are a refreshing re-imagining of craft beer libations. My personal favorites so far include the "Elderflower Snake Bite" made up of Pearlsnap Pils and Ace Cider with a hint of St. Germain, and the "Hopalong Cassidy" made of Old Tom Gin, Cointreau, fresh grapefruit and India Pale Ale syrup, which has converted me from a non-gin drinker.

Nashville-based musician James Wallace has a penchant for storytelling, and although he’s co-written with Abigail Washburn and toured extensively, his forthcoming release with band The Naked Light has endured several obstacles along the way. Wallace originally recorded More Strange News From Another Star for a project involving a monthly cassette tape series after being approached by a small, now-defunct record label in China. Enlisting friend and musician Matthew E. White as producer, Wallace wrote and recorded the record only to ultimately discover that the Beijing label had dissolved. After returning to the Us, Wallace’s music fell upon the right ears...

Jean Rollin "was a double outsider," argues Dave Kehr in the New York Times, "a filmmaker drawn to the fantastique in a country that had a limited tradition of genre filmmaking as well as a proud tradition of Cartesian rationalism that discouraged explorations of the supernatural. What France did offer, however, was a thriving interest in eroticism, and when Rollin was finally able to make his first feature, The Rape of the Vampire (1968), he did so by combining his childhood fascination with American cliffhanger serials and early-20th-century French fantasists like Gaston Leroux (author of The Phantom of the Opera) with gauzy nudes and exotic couplings." The British company Redemption is "collaborating with Kino International to release handsomely remastered Blu-rays, taken from the original camera negatives, of five key Rollin titles: The Nude Vampire (1970), The Shiver of the Vampires (1971), The Iron Rose (1973), Lips of Blood (1975) and Fascination (1979)."

Some guests never check out. Though we've been writing about it since March, House of the Devil director Ti West's latest horror The Innkeepers is finally getting an official theatrical/VOD release later this year. We featured one stunning poster for this film before, just before premiered at SXSW earlier this year, but Entertainment Weekly has the latest one and it's just as eerie and chilling, as there's a not-so-hidden creepy face just ominously hovering over an otherwise quaint little hotel. Sara Paxton and Pat Healy star as the last employees at this creepy place about to close, but neither are seen on the poster. It's still a great design. Our own James Wallace loves seeing this hit, too - from twitter: "Man, @Ti_West continues his streak of having awesome posters for his films." That would include this beauty for West's The House of the Devil. After over one hundred years in business,...

We’ve teamed up with MSN FilmFan to discuss the films opening this weekend. We’d love to hear your input on what you’re most interested in seeing and why.
Yes, I'm already assuming Transformers: Dark Of The Moon will annihilate Larry Crowne at the box office this weekend, but by how much is what I'm asking you to guess. I saw Dark Of The Moon at an advance screening on Monday; you can read Senior Editor James Wallace's review Here, in which he nailed exactly what I felt walking out. Long story short, it's a great film with only a few wobbly wheels and I'd go as far as saying the best in the franchise. Michael Bay listened to the critics and fans after the failed Revenge Of The Fallen was released.

You know those people you meet along the way and it’s an instant connection, where you feel like you’ve known them your entire life? You look back over your years and there they are; a part of just about every single fond memory you can recollect. And then you come to the realization that you haven’t known this person your whole life but rather just a few short years. Yet, the presence they have as a friend is so meaningful that you can’t remember your life before them. That is Chase Whale for me. I always wanted an older brother growing up but with Chase, I get to feel like I have one.

Back in June, the Grand Jury at the 11th Annual Cinevegas Film Festival (and our very own James Wallace) fell in love with a first-time feature from writer and director Kyle Patrick Alvarez. The deceptively simple plotline of the film (“while on a road trip to promote his unpublished novel, Davy Mitchell finds himself falling for a mysterious phone sex caller”) belied what was lurking within this very moving love story that ultimately proved to be one of my personal favorites for the entire year.

Many of you have probably not heard about the Chilean action film, Mandrill, but there are several reason that you should check out the film. A big one being that the film won the Jury Award for Best Picture at this year’s Fantastic Fest Film Festival. Also, our own James Wallace gave the film a favorable review after seeing it at Fantastic Fest. Plus, the film has a pretty sweet trailer that is now online wherein Mandrill comes off as a very cool action flick.

Gordon-Levitt is the star of such awesome films as The Lookout and Brick, as well as our own James Wallace’s most personal and body oil-heavy dreams (bring up Joseph Gordon-Levitt to him and you will not doubt it). Back in April, Robert Rodriguez announced that he would officially be making Machete, the full-length version of the Grindhouse trailer starring Danny Trejo. Its a project that Trejo has been talking about ever since Grindhouse flopped back in early 2007. But we didn't know it would actually happen until April. Then we started hearing that Rodriguez would be rebooting Predators and that he had a sci-fi action movie called Nerveracker in the works, as well as other projects like Sin City 2 and The Jetsons. So will it still happen? Yep, definitely! Trejo told Gordon & The Whale (via The Playlist) that they'll begin shooting in 5 weeks. As Gordon & The Whale's James Wallace says, "Guess that ends the debate on what Rodriguez’s next film is going to be." Not that we thought it would be anything else - that April announcement did say "Rodriguez is eyeing a June start ...

James Wallace over at Gordon and the Whale had the cojones to corner Danny Trejo at CineVegas and got some tasty details from the tattooed tough guy.
Trejo confirmed that he is still starring in Robert Rodriguez's Machete as the title character, and that it's going to start filming in just five short weeks. Machete started as one of the fake trailers in Grindhouse, which was, some might say, one of the best parts of the double feature. The other fake trailer rumored to get the full-length treatment, Eli Roth's Thanksgiving, is listed as in development on IMDb, but as the other news from Trejo proves, even IMDb sometimes gets it wrong.
Although IMDb lists Trejo as a rumored cast member of Stallone's next blow-'em-up, The Expendables, Trejo told Wallace "his name was associated with the film for some unknown reason and he was never contacted by Sylvester Stallone...
