[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for all five episodes of “Black Mirror” Season 6.]
For a moment, it looked like “Black Mirror” Season 6 was going to douse its Trojan Horse in gasoline and drop a match. The first episode of the anthology series’ new, long-gestating batch puts Netflix in its sights from the outset, using the platform’s typeface and interface to tell a story about, well, faces. “Joan is Awful” is another in the show’s “ripped from the Wired headlines” approach to technology. After a relatively long time away, its welcome back message boils down to the idea that anyone can be content, with or without their permission.
It’s a potent idea for a changing age, one now filled with massive sectors of the entertainment industry undergoing a work stoppage to fight the very trends that this episode puts forth as a potential reality. It’s also messy in its execution, true to recent “Black Mirror” form, capped...

Series creator, writer, and executive producer Charlie Brooker promises season six of Netflix’s Black Mirror will pull off twists and turns that no one will see coming. “Partly as a challenge, and partly to keep things fresh for both me and the viewer, I began this season by deliberately upending some of my own core assumptions about what to expect,” explained Brooker in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum.
Brooker added: “The stories are all still tonally Black Mirror through-and-through — but with some crazy swings and more variety than ever before.”
Netflix just released the first teaser trailer, poster, and photos from the sixth season of the critically acclaimed anthology series, which is targeting a June 2023 premiere.
In addition, the streaming service released the cast list – but not episode descriptions.

“Black Mirror” Season 6 Teaser Trailer – The Series Returns in June and Promises Unexpected Episodes
Expect the unexpected. Netflix has announced today that “Black Mirror” Season 6 will premiere this coming June, and they’ve also previewed the new episodes with a teaser trailer.
The logline previews, “Expect the unexpected in the long-awaited return of Charlie Brooker’s dark, satirical anthology series, which reinvents itself with each new episode. The sixth season of Black Mirror is the most unpredictable, unclassifiable and unexpected yet.”
Creator Charlie Brooker teases, “Partly as a challenge, and partly to keep things fresh for both me and the viewer, I began this season by deliberately upending some of my own core assumptions about what to expect. Consequently, this time, alongside some of the more familiar Black Mirror tropes we’ve also got a few new elements, including some I’ve previously sworn blind the show would never do, to stretch the parameters of what ‘a Black Mirror episode’ even is.”

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story will open several decades before the events of Bridgerton Season 1. The show will showcase a young and naive Queen Charlotte (India Amarteifio), who arrives in England for her arranged marriage to King George (Corey Mylchreest). This version of the queen will be very different from the self-assured woman Bridgerton fans have grown to know and love.
When the queen arrives in the country, she is virtually alone, but she finds a mentor in Lady Danbury (Arsema Thomas). However, the regal lady might have ulterior motives.

The Banshees Of Inisherin may have missed out at the Oscars but it triumphed at the Fidos today when canine star Morse won special collars for Comedy Canine and Best in the World. The busy border collie, who played loyal companion Sammy alongside Brendan Gleeson, was unable to attend, so Kerry Fox and her canine friend Snowpe stepped in to pick up the awards on his behalf.
The ceremony, held in London’s Chiswick Cinema, saw the Dogmanitarian award go to Kean Cao for founding the brand new International Animal Future Film Festival, a Chinese event which celebrates filmmaking from the perspective of animals and aims to encourage more filmmakers to make animal films in a harmonious and professional way which raises awareness of how humans should live in harmony with animals in the future.

The horror! Cried early reviews. A travesty of a Jane Austen adaptation! Then followed some more level-headed takes which didn’t find themselves quite as allergic to Persuasion‘s modern-sensibilities-in-period-rom-com approach. Now, after the fuss, Netflix audiences are making up their own minds. If you’re among them and are planning to spend/have spent just shy of two hours with the cast below, here are some of the places you may recognise them from..

Jane Austen is given a modern media twist in the Netflix film “Persuasion,” from first-time feature film director Carrie Cracknell.
Starring Dakota Johnson as Austen heroine Anne Elliott and Cosmo Jarvis as the love of her youth, Frederick Wentworth, the movie stays fairly true to the basic plot of Austen’s beloved final novel, but updates it by having protagonist Anne speak directly to camera. As Anne learns the man whose heart she broke is returning, now a much more socially suitable war-celebrated ship captain, the audience becomes who she turns to as she expresses her internal monologue of feelings, or even for sassy observations about her overly-dramatic younger sister.
“I think the use of the breaking of the fourth wall was something that we tried to be very kind of thoughtful and considered about,” Cracknell, a multi-award-nominated theater director, told TheWrap. “We experimented a lot on set with it.

Thanks to shows like “Bridgerton” and “The Gilded Age” (not to mention this year’s Met Gala theme), it seems that we’re entering a bit of a Jane Austen-inspired renaissance — not that fans of the renowned novelist went anywhere. Next up on the list of Regency-era projects is Netflix’s highly anticipated cinematic adaptation of the author’s final novel, “Persuasion,” starring Dakota Johnson.
In late April, the streamer released a set of first-look photos featuring Johnson as heroine Anne Elliot, an overlooked middle daughter who is nonetheless incredibly insightful and clever — if only easily persuaded. Surrounded by her entitled and self-involved relatives, she is once again on her own when faced with the return of the dashing, self-made Captain Frederick Wentworth (Cosmo Jarvis), with whom she broke off her engagement nearly a decade prior at the behest of those around her deeming it a degrading match.

On the south side of Chicago, there’s a small shop at the end of a quiet, snowy street. Its proprietor, a man named Leonard Burling (Mark Rylance), makes suits. Please don’t refer to this courtly English gentleman as a tailor, however — he spent many years apprenticing on Savile Row as a “cutter,” which is a very different skill set, indeed. When Burling eventually left his native country, he set up shop in the Windy City and made a name for himself as a provider of beautiful suits for a discerning clientele.

During a summer dominated by Marvel characters and Disney films, two British imports managed to sneak in under the radar, both bringing the music of two of the best-loved artists of all time to the big screen – The Beatles and Bruce Springsteen. Despite the success of the Beatles-inspired Yesterday at the box office, only one of these movies will be remembered for being worth the price of admission a year from now and that film will be Blinded by the Light.
Gurinder Chadha – the writer, director, and producer of Bend it Like Beckham (2002) – has another independent hit on her hands with, Blinded by the Light, a story adapted from Sarfraz Manzoor’s book Greetings from Bury Park – a tribute to Bruce Springsteen and how The Boss shaped Manzoor’s own teenage years growing up outside of London. Set in 1940s New York, Florence Foster Jenkins is the true story of the legendary New York heiress and socialite (Meryl Streep) who obsessively pursued her dream of becoming a great singer. The voice she heard in her head was beautiful, but to everyone else it was hilariously awful. The tale of Dom Hemingway (Jude Law) is a vibrant, loud, transparent mix of character study and black comedy. Dom Hemingway tells the story of Dom, a convict who has spent twelve years in prison for keeping his mouth closed regarding a job he did for crime boss Mr. Fontaine (Demian Bichir). After he is released from prison (in an opening that resembles a Quentin Tarantino film; full of quick dialogue, a grand entrance, vibrant colors, and a punchy song in the background), Dom spends the rest of the film trying to regain what he feels he is rightfully owed.
Although the film began with a promisingly funny segment of Dom comparing his junk to Renior and Picasso, most aspects of Dom Hemingway baffled me. From the odd change in pace of the script to the title cards, I was dumbfounded. Dom Hemingway, as a character, does not have much of an arc.

Inside Men, one of the most hotly anticipated dramas of the year premieres on BBC America on Wednesday, June 20 at 10:00pm Et/Pt. Luther villain Steven Macintosh plays John a vault manager who is regarded by his bosses as a “safe pair of hands.” John is the archetypal nice bloke who holds the doors for ladies and helps old women to cross the road. He’s a hard worker, a family man and someone whose a tad greyer than the Spitting Image caricature of John Major.

There are documentaries and there are narrative features; “The Arbor” is a little of both, but first and foremost it is a documentary. Just how it goes about presenting itself is either a brilliant stylistic interpretation or a gimmick , and perhaps, by the end of the film, it’s a little of both of those things, too.
So back up a bit: “The Arbor” is in large part the story of playwright Andrea Dunbar, who wrote about growing up in a West Yorkshire, England, housing project (the “arbor” refers to the green common area in the project, which was also the title of her first play) in the 1960s-1980s. By the time she died suddenly in 1990, she had three children by three fathers,...
