Reese Witherspoon was one of the A-list celebrities who paid tribute to Nicole Kidman on Saturday as she received the Life Achievement Award from the American Film Institute (AFI). Not surprisingly, Witherspoon dressed in black for the occasion.

It’s no secret that the 48-year-old Sweet Home Alabama actress has gone through several different styles over the years. Remember her Legally Blonde era? She used to embrace a feminine, delicate style but now prefers a more mature, glamorous look that fits her age.
Reese is known for her love of timeless black dresses, which, although polished and elegant, can often become boring—like the outfit she wore to the PaleyFest LA. I’m glad her recent red carpet appearance wasn’t as dull as expected.

Melissa McCarthy says Monday night’s InStyle Awards at the Getty Center was her first big public outing since the onset of the pandemic. “I went into a Cvs like two months ago and was like, ‘Uhhh, I don’ know what to do,’” she said from the stage after being presented with this year’s Icon Award from her “Nine Perfect Strangers” co-star Nicole Kidman.
Earlier, on the arrivals carpet, she told me, “This is the first time I’m with humans besides my fella and the humans I bore.”
And that’s when things got emotional. As we were talking, fellow honoree Simone Biles walked by. “Oh, my God, I just love you,” McCarthy said to the Olympic gymnast.
McCarthy began to cry as she told Biles how much she means to her and her young daughters. Wiping away tears, McCarthy said to me, “I gotta get a Kleenex.

“And Just Like That …” will not only look like “Sex and the City” for a new generation, with Nicole Ari Parker, Sara Ramírez, Sarita Choudhury and Karen Pittman joining the cast, but the HBO Max reboot will also tackle issues around race. “I’m excited to be a part of something that’s different for them,” Parker tells me. “We can talk about the elephant in the room that there were no fully fleshed-out characters of color, but now here’s the four of us. We’re real people, and they’ve been great to work with, and some of our [storylines] deal with race and deal with real experiences. It’s New York City!”
