Vanderveen was a teen-aged stage actress and ballerina in Amsterdam before going to Hollywood. She married Universal publicity-man Louis Blaine in 1957; the couple had one child and remained married until Blaine's death in 1984. Anne Frank had hung her picture from a magazine on the wall of her hiding place (now a Dutch landmark known as Anne Frank Huis). The identity of the dancer whom Frank had admired was unknown until a childhood friend of Vanderveen identified her in 1996.
