LONDON - MTV's annual Europe Music Awards is coming back to Germany. This year's music gala will be held Nov. 1 at the OlympiaHalle Arena in the Bavarian capital, Munich.
It will be the third time MTV's glittery ceremony has been held in Germany -- Europe's most-populous country -- following the inaugural 1994 MTV EMAs in Berlin, and the 2001 version in Frankfurt.
Sony Ericsson will extend its two-year alliance with this year's party which, according to MTV EMAs executive producer Richard Godfrey, will introduce "many new elements" and build on last year's multi-screen experience. Godfrey is also senior VP content and music, MTV Networks International.
In a statement issued this morning, Munich's Lord Mayor Christian Ude pledged that the city will be "an enthusiastic host" for the occasion.
"This event offers the city a tremendous opportunity to share its youthful vigour and vibrancy with the world," he comments. "I relish the prospect of this superlative musical event - an event that is so highly regarded, especially by youngsters and young adults around the globe."
The multi-purpose OlympiaHalle venue was constructed in the early 1970s to host the gymnastics and handball competitions at the 1972 Olympics Games.
