English composer who was awarded the Guinness Prize for his orchestral
work Night Dances in 1981. His instrumental works include 20th-century
influences, especially Igor Stravinsky and Benjamin Britten, and elements of rock and
jazz.
He was awarded the Laurence Olivier Theatre Award in 2001 (2000 season)
for Outstanding Achievement in Opera for creating The Silver Tassie for
the English National Opera.
He was awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2015 Queen's Birthday Honours List for his services to Music. He is a composer in London, England.
