Deadline understands that the NBCUniversal-backed streamer has taken in the small-screen adaptation of the book, which was published in 2019. It comes after Deadline revealed that Universal Television had landed the rights to the book in a competitive situation in 2019.
Handler is set to star and exec produce the single-camera project with Chelsea Handler Productions’s Liz Tuccillo, who has written on Sex and The City and Divorce, writing and exec producing.

The streaming sector may be growing ever more crowded as increasing numbers of providers embrace the video-on-demand model of content distribution, but industry pioneer Netflix continues to dominate in terms of original content and more than double the subscribers of its nearest competitor, Disney+. And in March of 2020, those 62 million subscribers have a lot of compelling movies and series to look forward to, both original and imported.
In terms of weekly series, Crash Landing On You, the second-highest-rated Korean drama in cable television history after Sky Castle, and Chinese romcom Find Yourself both begin airing new episodes on Sundays in March, while the South Korean series Itaewon Class, the first project from distribution company Showbox, premieres new episodes on Fridays.

“Divorce” Season 3 is very nearly a parody of its former self. What was a biting black comedy when it premiered in 2016 is now an accessible, easygoing pseudo-comedy. The players remain the same, but Frances (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Robert (Thomas Haden Church) are coasting through their post-divorce lives just as the season coasts to a less-than-fulfilling conclusion. No longer an insightful examination of a failed marriage, Season 3 is a shoulder-shrug emoji expanded over six uneventful half-hour episodes.

“Divorce” isn’t going anywhere. With a new showrunner, six more episodes, and a fresh trailer (see below), the HBO comedy starring and executive produced by Sarah Jessica Parker continues to examine what happens to a family when the parents split. After all, divorce is not the end — it’s just another new beginning.
Season 3 sees Robert (Thomas Haden Church) and Jackie (Becki Newton) prepping to get married, living together in apparent harmony as Frances (Parker) faces problems on her end. Her new boyfriend Henry (James Lesure) isn’t exactly gelling with her ex, while her best friend Diane (Molly Shannon) needs to stay with her while her husband, Nick (Tracy Letts), loses their savings while sitting in jail.
How the former partners can come together for the benefit of their children — and the love left between them — remains the central question of this nuanced relationship story.

Hollywood does not know how to make a movie about women that isn’t about the pursuit of romance. Even when women say they don’t want romance, they’re lying. I’m “biast” (pro): hungry for movies about women
I’m “biast” (con): not generally a fan of romantic comedies

Do you want to know how to be single? Do you need to know how to be single? I figure everyone in the world knows how to be single, because that’s how we all start out, but if you need some tips, these are the ones How to Be Single has for you:
= Be embarrassed to be unmarried. Be miserable constantly.
= Have no hobbies or friends that aren’t devoted to getting you paired off.
= Feel as if you must justify your singleness to complete strangers.

If a romantic comedy called How to Be Single sounds rather baldly antithetical, that’s because the title is a bit of a misnomer. No, the commercials didn’t overtly deceive you: this is a glossy, New York-set ensemble rom-com, and it is populated by an assortment of camera-ready, charismatic actors, all of whom play single folk struggling to navigate the Big Apple’s hectic dating scene. Its characters are also all flying solo, for a variety of reasons and with wide-ranging levels of success.
But when it comes to actually instructing audiences in the ways of the lonely heart, the movie, directed by Christian Ditter, doesn’t have a clue. Its title would have been more accurate with punctuation added, so that it would appear less like a college seminar course (How to Be Single) and more like the socially regressive, queasily single-shaming lament it actually is for most of its length (How?...

I don’t want to oversell “How to Be Single” — it’s a romantic comedy that’s only intermittently funny, cobbling together more storylines and characters that it can bother to keep track of. At the same time, however, it’s a movie that at least occasionally bothers to zag instead of zig, avoiding the sort of pitfalls we’ve come to expect in films about unmarried young ladies on the prowl in the big city. It’s based on a novel by Liz Tuccillo, and despite the rom-com clichés that the screenwriters have on their collective résumés — Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein collaborated.

Is it me, or is this new How To Be Single trailer painfully unfunny? Maybe it's because Rebel Wilson does absolutely nothing for me, but I didn't even smile once while watching it. New York City is full of lonely hearts seeking the right match, be it a love connection, a hook-up, or something in the middle. And somewhere...

For those on the lookout for solid romantic comedies, it sounds like there's a new one in the works. After making a splash as one of the leads in Sleeping with Other People at Sundance last month (read my review here), "Community" star Alison Brie will star in the ensemble romantic comedy How to Be Single. Based on Liz Tuccillo's book of the same name, the film is said to be in the same vein as He's Just Not That Into You and Valentine's Day with a focus on the lives of several single people, offering perspectives on non-dating life from both the male and female perspectives. And the cast attached so far is pretty promising. Brie has been circling the film since last year and is now in final negotiations to make it a done deal. In addition, THR reports the Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey), Rebel Wilson...

Despite the offers of support they receive from their friends and family who wish to help them during their painful recovery process, maintaining that freedom often allows women to feel as though they have control over what’s happening to them. There is freedom in being single and independent with no one to answer to but yourself. But what happens when a crisis occurs and you need someone by your side? In the upcoming "Take Care," that question gets a comic answer, and today we have an exclusive clip from the film. Written and directed by Liz Tuccillo, and starring Leslie Bibb, Thomas Sadoski, Marin Ireland, Betty Gilpin and Michael Stahl-David, the story follows Frannie, who gets injured in a car accident yet suddenly finds there's no one around to lend a hand while she heals. So she dials up her ex-boyfriend Devon, which opens up a whole new set of problems. And in this scene, we see Frannie at first turning to a neighbor for help, but as you'll see, he's less than enthused about it. "Take Care" opens this Friday in select cinemas and on VOD. Shot almost entirely in one small apartment, the indie comedy Take Care feels something like a play. Writer/director Liz Tuccillo puts viewers nose to nose with her characters, and their discomfort feels visceral. Everything seems impossible for Frannie (Leslie Bibb) as she feebly inches her way around her fourth-story walkup. Injured in a car accident, ditched by her friends, and feeling sorry for herself, Frannie can't hobble to her bathroom or peel an orange without help. Desperate, Frannie recruits help from her ex-boyfriend, Devon (Thomas Sadoski) — to the displeasure of his jealous current girlfriend.

We didn't get a female late-night host this go-round, but it looks like Parenthood's Lauren Graham might play one on TV. Not quite good enough for us, but Graham will play Kate in Kate on Later, a comedy about a woman "who thought her day job was all her life would amount to when an opportunity arises that’s bigger than she ever dreamed possible. But that opportunity means she’s going to have to break one of the last remaining glass ceilings — the world of late-night network television talk shows." Developed for NBC, Ellen Degeneres will executive produce and Graham will co-write along with He's Just Not That Into You's Liz Tuccillo. Perhaps, if the show's good enough, someone will spring for the real thing. NBC, how about you?...
