Coming to Prime Video on September 16 is Goodnight Mommy.
Twin brothers (Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti) arrive at their Mother’s country home (Naomi Watts) to discover her face covered in surgical bandages. Immediately something is off. Their Mother smokes, sets strict rules, refuses to sing their favorite bedtime song, and secretly rips up a drawing Elias gives her — things their previously warm, caring mom would never do. They begin to suspect the woman is not their mother at all, but even after she turns violent, the police don’t believe the children are in danger. Becoming increasingly suspicious, the boys try to uncover who they are really living with, in this suspenseful, psychological thriller.
Goodnight Mommy is directed by Matt Sobel from a screenplay by Kyle Warren, based on the 2014 film Goodnight Mommy (written and directed by Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala, produced by Ulrich Seidl).

Here we go again, but not in the way you might be expecting. The 2014 horror hit "Goodnight Mommy," is getting an American reboot and we now have the film's first trailer.
The sneak peek for the Prime Video original showcases Naomi Watts in the title matriarchal role. Much like the first film, the movie follows a mother reuniting with her twin sons following a cosmetic surgery that requires her to wear bandages around her entire face and head. Slowly, the boys start to suspect their mother, well, isn't who she says she is, and they join forces to unmask her and find out the truth.
The remake stars Watts alongside Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti, while "Younger" star Peter Hermann rounds out the cast of the film. "Take Me to the River" director Matt Sobel helmed the film from a script by Kyle Warren, who is known for his work on Fox's short-lived "Lethal Weapon" series.

"When twin brothers (Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti) arrive at their mother’s (Naomi Watts) country home to discover her face covered in bandages—the result, she explains, of recent cosmetic surgery—they immediately sense that something doesn’t add up. She sets strange new house rules, smokes in her bathroom, and secretly rips up a drawing they gave her—things their loving mother would never do. As her behavior grows increasingly bizarre and erratic, a horrifying thought takes root in the boys’ minds: The sinking suspicion that the woman beneath the gauze, who’s making their food and sleeping in the next room, isn’t their mother at all."

Prime Video released the first major look at its upcoming remake of Goodnight Mommy starring Naomi Watts.
Based on Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala’s 2014 film, the psychological thriller features Watts as a mother visited by her twin sons (Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti), who come to stay with her at her country home. But when the boys arrive, they find their mother — or the woman claiming to be her — covered in bandages after undergoing a recent cosmetic surgery.
“I hate that you have to see me like this,” Watts says in the movie’s first two-minute trailer. “But it’s nothing to be afraid of.”
Her new rules — no running or yelling in the house, no going into the barn or her bedroom — on top of her new behaviors like smoking, have the boys concerned. But as her behavior becomes increasingly erratic and...

Here’s a first look at Al Pacino in David Gordon Green’s Manglehorn, which also stars Holly Hunter, Chris Messina and Harmony Korine.
Aj Manglehorn (Pacino) is an aging, ordinary guy in a small town. He nurses his sick cat, squeezes out a conversation with the local bank teller every Friday, and eats at the same place every day. But there is more to Manglehorn than meets the eye: he’s an ex-con who, 40 years ago, gave up the woman of his dreams for a big “job.” He now obsesses daily over the choices he made. After a dramatic effort to start over, Manglehorn faces a terrifying moment and is unmasked as a guy with a very, very dark past.

Although there rarely seems to be much (if any) overlap between the Independent Spirit Awards and the Oscars when it comes to the winners, it's always nice to see some of these movies getting recognition when they will likely be ignored by the Academy. Silver Linings Playbook does not seem to have much of a shot at winning anything tonight (with the exception of Jennifer Lawrence for Best Actress), but it dominated the competition last night winning 4 out of the 5 categories it was nominated in including Best Picture. Jennifer Lawrence also won for Best Female Lead and David O. Russell won Best Director and Best Screenplay. Other winners included The Sessions co-stars John Hawkes for Best Male Lead and Helen Hunt for Best Supporting Female, while Matthew McConaughey won Best Supporting Male for his performance in Magic Mike. Amour took home the Best Foreign Film Award and The Invisible War won Best Documentary.

It would be the film with the juju in David O. Russell’s zany black comedy that was the toast of the 28th Independent Spirit Awards beating Beasts Of The Southern Wild – its fiercest rival in all major categories. Silver Linings Playbook cleaned up, grabbing Best Feature, Director, Screenplay and Best Actress went to Jennifer Lawrence – the heavy favorite for tomorrow’s Oscar. Fox Searchlight might have grabbed only one award for Beasts in the Cinematography category, but it’s other Sundance pick-up The Sessions managed to nab a pair of acting prizes for Helen Hunt and Oscar snubbed John Hawkes for Best Male Lead. In our favorite grant categories, Adam Leon (Gimme the Loot) nabbed the Someone to Watch Award (last year it went to Mark Jackson), the Piaget Producers Award went to Mynette Louie (she produced Tze Chun’s sophomore film Eye of Winter which we are keeping...

David O. Russell's "Silver Linings Playbook" was the big winner at the 28th annual Independent Spirit Awards held in Santa Monica, CA this afternoon and hosted by Andy Samberg. "Silver Linings" took home the Best Feature, Actress (Jennifer Lawrence), Director, and Screenplay trophies.
McConaughey, who nearly stole the show in Steven Soderbergh's "Magic Mike," won the Best Supporting Male award for a performance that was largely ignored by the Academy Awards. As Samberg astutely observed, "We've got Matthew McConaughey...Hollywood fuck you!"
Jennifer Lawrence won the Best Female Lead award for "Silver Linings Playbook," while John Hawkes took home the Best Male Lead trophy for "Sessions." His co-star, Helen Hunt, won the Best Supporting Female award.
Michael Haneke's "Amour," a darling of the 85th Academy Awards, deservingly won Best International Film.

Today the 2013 Spirit Awards were handed out and it was a dominating effort from Silver Linings Playbook as it won Best Picture, Director (David O. Russell), Actress (Jennifer Lawrence) and Screenplay (Russell). The only award it was nominated for and didn't win was Best Actor where Bradley Cooper lost to John Hawkes for The Sessions, but that's only a minor blip on the radar when you win this big. Among the early awards handed out, Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower won for Best First Feature while Derek Connolly won for Best First Screenplay for the romantic sci-fi film Safety Not Guaranteed. Then the Twitterverse exploded with a Best Supporting Actor win for Matthew McConaughey and his work in Magic Mike, which, for a time, seemed like it may be able to eek into that last Supporting slot at the Oscars. No dice, a Spirit Award it will have to be.

Worldview Entertainment has released the first look of David Gordon Green's ( Prince Avalanche , All the Real Girls ) gritty, southern drama Joe , starring Nicolas Cage and Tye Sheridan ( Mud , The Tree of Life ). WestEnd Films is handling international sales and will be shopping the films to buyers at Berlinale Efm. Recently wrapping principal photography in Texas, Joe is written by Gary Hawkins based on the Larry Brown novel of the same title, and produced by Green, his long-time producer Lisa Muskat, and Worldview CEO Christopher Woodrow, alongside Derrick Tseng. The film is described as follows: In the dirty unruly world of small-town Texas, ex-convict Joe Ransom (Cage) has tried to put his dark past behind him and to live a simple life. He works for a lumber company...

Magnolia Pictures has acquired North American rights to David Gordon Green’s latest, “Prince Avalanche.” Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch star in the film, which had its premiere Sunday at the Sundance Film Festival. Magnolia has tentatively planned a summer theatrical release. Inspired by the Icelandic film “Either Way,” “Prince Avalanche” tracks two men working to repaint traffic lines on a highway ravaged by wildfire. Lisa Muskat, Derrick Tseng, Craig Zobel, James Belfer and Green produced. “All of us at Magnolia are huge fans of David Gordon Green, and it’s been a dream for a long time to work with him,” said Magnolia president Eamonn Bowles. “‘Prince Avalanche’ is incredibly smart, funny, warm and engaging film, with indelible, iconic performances from both Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch.” Magnolia acquisitions exec Dori Begley negotiated the deal with John Sloss of Cinetic Media. Park City, Ut – January 23, 2013 – The Wagner/Cuban Company’s Magnolia Pictures announced today that they have acquired North American rights to Prince Avalanche after its rapturously received Sunday premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. The new film from writer/director David Gordon Green, Prince Avalanche stars Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch, and was produced by Lisa Muskat, Derrick Tseng, Craig Zobel (director of Magnolia’s 2012 release Compliance), James Belfer and David Gordon Green. Driven by striking performances from Rudd and Hirsch, Prince Avalanche is an offbeat comedy about two men painting traffic lines on a desolate country highway that’s been ravaged by wildfire. Against this dramatic setting, beautifully shot by frequent Green collaborator Tim Orr, the men bicker and joke with each other, eventually developing an unlikely friendship. Funny, meditative and at times surreal, Prince Avalanche features a moving score by Explosions in the Sky and David Wingo, and...

After a string of films we might one day refer to as his Amblin phase (Pineapple Express, Your Highness, The Sitter) it appears that Prince Avalanche is the welcome return to Gordon Green’s indie roots. Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch should prove to be a great pair of misfits in an item which is based on the 2011 film Either Way, from Icelandic helmer Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson. Don’t be surprised if the writer/director reminds us with his eighth feature film outing, that he can flex both his dramatic and comedic writing skills with ease – and what a year it would be if this, and Joe (we’ve slotted a bit higher up...

And just like that, awards season is upon us. I'd like to say that it's a time of year when your chances of seeing a great film in theatres are significantly increased, but I don't know if that's entirely true. Either way, the Independent Spirit Awards kicked things off today with their full list of nominations, which could potentially influence Oscar chances for some filmmakers and actors. I'm guessing that at least a few of these folks will be in the running. David O. Russell's Silver Linings Playbook and Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom led the way with 5 nominations each, while Beasts of the Southern Wild and Keep the Lights On both earned 4. It's awesome to see Matthew McConaughey recognized for both Magic Mike and Killer Joe, but a little disappointing that The Imposter was overlooked for Best Documentary. What do you think of this year's Spirit Award nominees?...

Nominations for the 28th Film Independent Spirit Awards were announced today and were led by Moonrise Kingdom and Silver Linings Playbook with five nominations each followed closely by fellow Best Feature nominees Beasts of the Southern Wild and Keep the Lights On as well as Ava DuVernay's Middle of Nowhere, each with four nominations. Richard Linklater's Bernie was the fifth Best Feature nominee while Middle of Nowhere found its four nominations largely in the acting categories with Emayatzy Corinealdi, David Oyelowo and Lorraine Toussant all being nominated and the fourth for the John Cassavetes Award, which goes to the "best" film made for under $500,000. Looking over the list of nominees I can't help but shrug at the screenplay nomination for Ruby Sparks (a film I loathed), but it's nice to see some First Time Feature love for Colin Trevorrow's Safety Not Guaranteed and Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower,...

With the only piece of news coming from a June trade mention, we fathom that before David Gordon Green climbed onto his currently filming Joe and that he closed the books on Prince Avalanche – but not unlike his mentor Terrence Malick, he could have easily decided to put this indie comedy aside and get right to work on his latest project. Featuring Sundance vets Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch, what we do know is that Dgg collaborated once again with Producer Lisa Muskat, Composer David Wingo, Production Designer Richard A. Wright and true partner in crime Cinematographer Tim Orr. We guess he might want to premiere a smaller project at the same lieu he showed off All the Real Girls (Sundance ’03), Snow Angels (Sundance ’07) and numerous projects wearing the producer’s hat (more recently Craig Zobel’s Compliance).
