Jeopardy! contestant Victoria Groce buzzed herself to victory during Friday’s eighth quarterfinal of the ongoing Invitational Tournament, and fans of the game show are applauding her Daily Double-less win. “I’m very impressed with Victoria’s performance today!” one viewer wrote in a Reddit discussion thread for Friday’s episode, after Victoria trounced Ben Ingram, a business control specialist originally from Florence, South Carolina, and Dhruv Gaur, a grad student from Cambridge, Massachusetts (and the contestant who once made Alex Trebek choke up). Victoria, a writer and television personality from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, ended the game with $28,801 after a correct Final Jeopardy! response. Former Jeopardy! producer Mike Richards is finally talking about what went wrong for him in his ill-fated stint as host two years ago.
Richards was announced as the full-time replacement for the late Alex Trebek in 2021. He lasted just one day before resigning after questions arose about his conduct.

We had talked about people coming in and guest hosting if Alex got too sick. But we always knew Alex would come back until the day he decided he couldn’t.”
Trebek died of pancreatic cancer in November 2020. At that point, several guest hosts were brought in as executives struggled to determine who would be the host.

Turner Classic Movies, the leading authority and definitive home of classic film, will celebrate its 30th anniversary on April 14, 2024. To honor the milestone, TCM will present on-air programming salutes featuring TCM staff who were there from the very beginning, as well as a 24-hour marathon of films with historical introductions from TCM’s first host and champion, Robert Osborne.
“How many other channels on television celebrate their anniversary? How many other channels’ fans know where they were the day a network launched?” says TCM Primetime Host Ben Mankiewicz. “I’m not sure either of those things are true without Robert Osborne. He’s the Walter Cronkite of TCM. The Johnny Carson. The Alex Trebek. With these intros of Robert’s, we’re celebrating his impact and his continued influence. Plus, as we do with the movies we show, we’ll put Robert into context. Additionally, we’ll also look back...

Turner Classic Movies will turn 30 on April 14, 2024. That’s right: It’ll be 30 years since Ted Turner flipped the switch — flanked by Old Hollywood legends Arthur Hiller, Arlene Dahl, Jane Powell, Celeste Holm, and Van Johnson — right in the middle of Times Square to turn the network “on.”
Also with Turner that day was the man who’d become TCM’s longtime host, Robert Osborne, then just 61. A veteran columnist for The Hollywood Reporter, Osborne had become known as a close friend to many of the surviving stars of yesteryear ever since he was photographed kissing Bette Davis’s hand during a Golden Globes broadcast in the late ’70s. He’d go on to host the intros and outros for most of TCM’s primetime lineup for close to 23 years after that launch date, until he died in March 2017 at 84.
For so many TCM fans, Robert Osborne was the network.

To celebrate its 30th anniversary, TCM on April 14 will present a 24-hour marathon of films with historical introductions from Robert Osborne and throughout the month feature programming with other staffers who started with the channel, it was announced Thursday.
For more than 22 years until his death in March 2017, the revered Osborne served as TCM’s primetime host, bringing millions of viewers into the world of classic cinema he knew as an actor mentored by Lucille Ball, as an Oscar historian and as a longtime The Hollywood Reporter reviewer and columnist.
“How many other channels on television celebrate their anniversary? How many other channels’ fans know where they were the day a network launched?” Ben Mankiewicz, who took over for Osborne, said in a statement. “I’m not sure either of those things are true without Robert Osborne.

There is a possible “terrifying” change brewing at Jeopardy! and it could happen any moment now. A lot has happened this last year at the long-running game show. Yet, this is something that would affect viewing and fans do not like those changes. Read on for more details.
Possible ‘Terrifying’ Jeopardy! Changes Brewing
Game show viewers like consistency and that makes perfect sense. They were up in arms when things shifted in the way the letter board was controlled on Wheel of Fortune. Yes, it was a sign of the evolving times and technology. However, diehard fans struggled to adapt, and with good reason. Now, something big is allegedly being considered for Jeopardy! and show EP, Michael Davies knows it comes with a risk. They just changed from a two-host system and went back to the original format of just one. It was a risk when Alex Trebek passed away...

Changes could be afoot for the syndicated iteration of Jeopardy!
Michael Davies, the iconic game show’s executive producer, has some ideas about how to make it easier for viewers to play along at home.
In the latest edition of the Inside Jeopardy! Podcast, he revealed his belief that some audience members “get very lost in our gameplay.”
“Now, with all of the Daily Double hunting, people jump all over. They go to the deeper dollar value first and jump all over the board,” he added.
“I don’t think it would ever be natural to dictate players to play in a certain order.”
Celebrity Jeopardy! previously tried to remedy this by using clues displayed on a split screen instead of a whole screen.

Jeopardy!‘s Tournament of Champions is turning into the Tournament of Death as it continues to deliver devastating results. Another fan-favorite front-runner was knocked out of the competition on Thursday night (February 29). Juveria Zaheer, a psychiatrist from Whitby, Ontario, Canada, won fans over during her impressive underdog run through the Season 40 tournaments. Having lost to super-champ Hannah Wilson during her original Season 39 game, Zaheer returned to the Alex Trebek stage, where she won both the Second Chance and Champions Wildcard tournaments. Having earned her Toc spot in dominant fashion, fans had high hopes for Zaheer ahead of Thursday’s episode. She faced off in a tense showdown with Kevin Belle, a trail planner from Silver Spring, Maryland, and Luigi de Guzman, an attorney from Arlington, Virginia. Zaheer got out to an early lead, picking up right where she left off in the Wildcard by being super quick on the buzzer.

Jeopardy!‘s 2024 Tournament of Champions continued on Wednesday night (February 28) as the divisive Yogesh Raut made his return to the Alex Trebek stage to take on Jake DeArruda and Nick Cascone. Raut, who won three games during Season 39, drew controversy last year when he posted a Facebook rant about Jeopardy!, referring to the long-running game show as “not important.” “Jeopardy has not nor will ever be the Olympics of quizzing,” Raut wrote at the time. “Jeopardy is not the problem; its centrality to American quizzing culture is…. There will never be healthy quizzing culture in this country until we can learn to stop pretending Jeopardy! is important.” Despite his comments, Raut was invited back for the Tournament of Champions, which kicked off last Friday, and he made the most of his opportunity. The entire episode was a back-and-forth battle, with each contestant dominating at different points. After the first round,...

It’s hard to become a Jeopardy! celebrity … unless, of course, you’re already participating in Celebrity Jeopardy!
The concept of the long-running quiz show institution is so simple that it doesn’t leave much room for personality. Sure, we’ve gotten to know some super champs over the years like James Holzhauer, Amy Schneider, and Goat-turned-host Ken Jennings. But most contestants come and go with little fanfare. That was not the case for Yogesh Raut.
This blogger, podcaster, and writer from Springfield, Illinois immediately popped off the screen during his first game on Jan. 11, 2023. The stoic contender was not shy about sharing his advanced level of trivia mastery. Raut had participated in so many prominent trivia tourneys (though he prefers the term “quizzing”) that he was already well-known on the scene. In the interview portion of his first episode, he shared an anecdote of how Jeopardy! super champion...

When a sitcom reaches a certain level of longevity, it can be easy for writers to take their audience for granted. Storylines get lightly reworked, if not recycled wholesale. Cheap ratings are scored by having a significant character get married (call it the "Rhoda boost"). And there's no better way to guarantee the maximum amount of eyeballs than to have a major celebrity play themselves within the world of our favorite characters.
This typically works. Who can forget the time Bobby Brady faked a serious illness to earn a bedside visit from Joe Namath on "The Brady Bunch," or the time that pint-sized prankster Arnold Jackson pulled the same trick to get Muhammad Ali up to the Drummond's penthouse on "Diff'rent Strokes?" These are memorable episodes to be sure, but there's nothing more to them than the cameo.

It’s been a chaotic few years for American quiz show institution Jeopardy!
Following the death of legendary longtime host Alex Trebek in 2020, Jeopardy! embarked on a sprawling search for a replacement with 16 guest hosts vying to fill Trebek’s enormous shoes. Ultimately Jeopardy! producer Mike Richards chose himself for the role. He was then quickly fired when audio resurfaced of him using offensive language on some podcasts.
Goat Jeopardy! champion Ken Jennings and The Big Bang Theory actress Mayim Bialik were then tapped as co-hosts. But in December of 2023, Bialik was also let go from the show, leaving Jennings as the sole remaining host and ultimate heir to Trebek’s throne. While some theorized that Bialik’s own history of controversial statements led to her firing, executive producer Michael Davies recently revealed during the Television Critics Association press tour that wasn’t the case.

The CW is committing itself to game show programming as the network has picked up adaptations of two classic board games, Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit. According to Deadline, an official announcement is expected soon to confirm the news. Both game shows come from Hasbro Entertainment, Lionsgate Alternative Entertainment (which acquired the eOne assets from Hasbro in 2023), and The CW. Scrabble will also be produced by Mattel Television Studios. As previously reported, the Trivial Pursuit game show has been in development for a while, with LeVar Burton rumored to be in line to host. Last August, TMZ reported Burton and his team were “close to locking in terms” for the job, which would see the Star Trek alum serve as host and executive producer. The rumors of Burton’s hosting was met with positive feedback. Many fans wanted to see him as Jeopardy! host back when the show was still looking...

Jeopardy! has been a bit all over the place since longtime host Alex Trebek passed away in 2020.
The series had a rotating panel of guest hosts before settling on fan-favorite contestant Ken Jennings and The Big Bang Theory alum Mayim Bialik.
That all came crashing down earlier this year when Bialik revealed she had been informed she would no longer be hosting the syndicated iteration of the show.
Months later, producers are speaking out about the thought process behind the decision.
Executive producer Michael Davies got candid about the situation with reporters on Saturday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, revealing that in the end, Jennings “really won the job.”
Davies said the multi-hosting situation helped because of Bialik’s commitments to Call Me Kat.

Harper Steele is, with no exaggeration, one of my favorite comedy writers to ever do it. Not only did she write on "Saturday Night Live" from 1995-2015, the years when I was developing my own sense of humor, but she's also behind the Lifetime film "A Deadly Adoption" and the Academy Award-nominated Netflix flick, "Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga." She was also a writer on the "Doug" episode "Doug's Cool Shoes," which has some of the best visual joke-telling of the animated series' first season. This is to say that Steele has been formative in shaping my ability to find humor in the world around me.
Over the years, Steele has become best friends with Will Ferrell, arguably one of the most recognizable comedic actors in the world. Ferrell and Steele are frequent collaborators, and their latest project is "Will & Harper," a documentary about the pair...

One Family Feud contestant suffered a faux pas that had Steve Harvey wondering what in the world they were thinking.
When each new round begins in an episode of Family Feud, each team sends up a designated family member to represent them at the podium.
In a recent episode, a woman named Erin stood across from her opponent as Steve read the survey question to them both.
“Name an occupation where someone wears a robe at work,” Steve read from his cue cards.
Erin was the first to tap her button and got in her answer just as the buzzer went off.
But, instead of naming the answer in noun form, Erin phrased it as a question.

As comedian Will Ferrell walked across the magnificent stage of The Kennedy Center to accept the greatest honor an America funny person can receive, The Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, something happened that made us all remember why he is getting this prestigious honor. The award instantly slipped from Will’s hilarious fingers, shattering this legendary humorist’s bust all over the floor. An obvious gag, that was so damn fitting to what Will represents in the history of the art of doing silly stuff. Without breaking character for a second, Will hilariously tries to pick up the pieces as the world just sat back and laughed… but not laughing at him, we were laughing with him. The appeal of Will Ferrell comes from his innocent “I don’t give a f*ck” attitude that elevates simple stupid jokes to performance art. As Mr. Ferrell once said, “What I...
