- As a child, Michael was a talented martial artist in real life, training in karate and the Korean martial art of Tae Kwon Do. He achieved his black belt by the time he was twelve. He still continues to train as an adult.
- His elder sister Erin and his elder brother Adam were both extras in 3 Ninjas: Knuckle Up (1995). They both featured in the pizza parlor scene.
- Studied computer science at university and now resides in Woodland Hills, California. He also did a stint as a barman in a Malibu club.
- The casting director of 3 Ninjas (1992) was scouting martial arts' clubs for boys to appear in the film when Michael was discovered. His martial arts classmates persuaded him to take the casting director's advice and audition for the role of Samuel 'Rocky' Douglas in the children's martial arts film, which he went on to successfully win. However, acting was not a lifestyle Michael enjoyed and he wanted to concentrate on his martial arts, so he turned down the chance to do 3 Ninjas Kick Back (1994) and the role went to Sean Fox instead.
- Is the youngest son of Richard and Peggy Treanor. He has two elder brothers, Brian and Adam, and an elder sister, Erin.
