Ahead of the season five premiere of "The Crown," details continue to trickle in about the forthcoming sixth installment. In the wake of Queen Elizabeth II's death in September, the show announced that they were halting production indefinitely out of respect for the late royal. Writer Peter Morgan told Deadline via email, "'The Crown' is a love letter to her and I've nothing to add for now, just silence and respect," he wrote. "I expect we will stop filming out of respect, too."
It's unclear when production will resume, but the news comes shortly after it was announced that Prince William and Kate Middleton are getting "The Crown" treatment. On Sept. 2, Deadline reported newcomer Rufus Kampa will play William at age 15, while Ed McVey will play an older version of the prince. Exclusive: After an exhaustive casting process, Netflix drama The Crown has found its Prince William and Kate Middleton for the show’s sixth season. Producers have gone for a double dose of William, with two actors chosen to portray him as he goes from teenager to young adult, Deadline has learned.
Teenager Rufus Kampa assumes the role of Prince William aged 15, while Ed McVey will portray the prince’s later teen and early adult years. Newcomer Meg Bellamy has been cast as Kate. All three are new to television roles.
Kampa will appear in episodes that chart how the British Royal Family coped with the tragic death of William’s mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, who died in August 1997.
Though still young, Kampa already boasts an extensive set of credits for stage roles. He made his professional West End stage debut three years ago playing the title role in Sue Townsend...

When we found out last week that Gordon the Gopher and other childhood favourites were being revived for a special, we got so excited we dug out our Edd The Duck lunchbox and started reminiscing about our first loves: Andi Peters, Zoe Ball and Phillip Schofield.
But when we started to talk about some of our favourite kids' TV programmes, there were blank faces in the office. Stephen Mangan has paid tribute to the late Sue Townsend.
The actor played Townsend's creation Adrian Mole in 2001 TV adaptation Adrian Mole: The Cappuccino Years.
"She was a special person - I absolutely fell in love with her when I met her," Mangan told Digital Spy at last night's (April 24) BAFTA nominees party. "She was a real hero of mine so it's really sad that she's no longer around."
Townsend had "great humanity, great modesty and an insatiable work ethic", he added.
"She worked ferociously hard," he said. "You combine that with a dazzling sense of humour and that was it."
Mangan will host the BAFTA TV Craft Awards on Sunday (April 27) - his third time as host.

Adrian Mole author Sue Townsend has died, at the age of 68.
Some sad news for you this morning: the author Sue Townsend has died, at the age of 68.
Townsend will hold a special place in the hearts of many of us for writing the Adrian Mole series of books. She published eight in all, and had plans for a ninth book. Those plans were put on hold when she suffered a stroke at the end of 2012. The final book in the series is likely to remain 2009's (excellent) Adrian Mole: The Prostrate Years.
Townsend also had a number of other popular novels to her name (including The Queen & I and The Woman Who Went To Bed For A Year) and several plays.
She died after a short illness, and will be sorely missed.
Our thoughts, as always, are very much with her friends and family at this time.

Adrian Mole topically comments “everyone is swept along on a tide of patriotic fervour”, in keeping with the current Jubilee frenzy, making it the perfect time to finally release Peter Sasdy’s TV adaptation of Sue Townsend’s legendary books.
The Complete Adrian Mole begins with The Secret Diary and Adrian tragically discovering a spot on his chin on the first day of the New Year. Each episode starts with shots of Adrian writing his diary, moaning and asking a rhetorical question. From his first wet dream to him having his tonsils out, his voice breaking and a holiday in Skegness, those who fondly remember the original books will be pleased to be reunited with old character favourites. Pandora is introduced in episode one as the new girl who sits next to him in Geography who is “alright”. Adrian matter-of-factly reflects he “might fall in love with her” as “it...

A few weeks ago, I attended a taping of BBC Radio 4’s program Open Book. The topic was a debate to choose Britain’s funniest book, and the five books under discussion were: • 1066 And All That, by W.C. Sellar and R.J. Yeatman (championed by John Sessions) • The Virgin Soldiers, by Leslie Thomas (championed by Tony Parsons) • The Loved One, by Evelyn Waugh (championed by A.L. Kennedy) • The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, aged thirteen and three quarters, by Sue Townsend (championed by Jo Brand) • Swing Hammer Swing, by Jeff Torrington (championed by Christopher Brookmyre) The winner was chosen by the studio audience -- we voted through several elimination rounds -- which made for an interesting experience for me, since I haven’t read any of the books. (Though now I plan to read all of them.) I cast my votes based entirely upon the presentations by the writers, comedians,...

This week's news in the arts
In recent years, exam results have been accompanied by two things – commentators grumbling about declining standards, and countless pictures of pretty girls hugging each other. And while that's plenty for most people, others have found exams to be a rich source of creative inspiration.
O-levels form much of the anxiety that drives the protagonist in Sue Townsend's The Growing Pains of Adrian Mole, along with the constant threat of nuclear war. Having put him through more turmoil than the average student will experience, Jonathan Coe ends The Rotters' Club by allowing Ben Trotter to collect his exam results (spoiler!) relatively unscathed. Then there's Lynn Barber's An Education, in which her affair with a dubious older man can be read as an example of fairly extreme exam procrastination.

Anyone who can't face braving Glastonbury to see the Motown legend's Sunday-night set can head to London's Hyde Park for this headlining show. Roman Polanski's The Ghost is the latest in a very long line of fictionalised Tonys. What does this obsession say about us?
The Ghost's Adam Lang is at least the 20th version of Tony Blair to hit the big and small screen. The stage has also given life to a troupe of Tonys – many fathered by David Hare – and there's a legion of literary equivalents, most memorably Sue Townsend's transvestite Tony. He must be the most fictionalised prime minister in British history. I don't know what the collective noun for Tony Blairs might be – an Iraq? a grin? – but we clearly need one.
Some of these screen versions are Actual Tonys and appear in the kind of dramas that claim to be based on fact but admit that some things have been made up. They are often played by Michael Sheen, who is set to do his...
