Amy Schumer was in the zone. This was in March, when she was filming on the street in Brooklyn for her upcoming movie “Kinda Pregnant,” a comedy about a woman who pretends to be knocked up for attention. In one take, Schumer emerged from a subway station while answering a phone call — and was interrupted by a stranger shouting at her from the sidewalk: “Fuck you, Amy Schumer! You’re a Zionist! You love genocide!”
Disruptions of the four-letter variety aren’t unusual in a raucous place like New York, though they’re usually less pointed. Schumer didn’t break character, refusing to stop working as the woman carried on. The actress finished the scene finally, packed up her stuff and went home to her husband and their 4-year-old son.
“It didn’t even raise my heart rate,” Schumer says over brunch at a cozy Brooklyn Heights tavern a couple days later.

Exclusive: Actress, producer, and activist, Debra Messing, has signed on to executive produce the feature documentary, Primal Fear about the explosion of antisemitism on college campuses, on social media, and in the streets since October 7, 2023, when Hamas attacked Israel. Wendy Sachs, the co-director and producer of Surge, is directing the film and will also serve as an executive producer.
Interviews include: Debra Messing, Michael Rapaport, Noa Tishby, Scott Galloway, US Rep. Ritchie Torres, and US Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.
The documentary begins on October 7th when Hamas killed more than 1,200 Israelis and kidnapped 240 people including babies, children, and the elderly. While the film opens with the horrors of the Nova Music Festival and the massacre that took place in 22 Israeli communities, the documentary is largely about the aftermath of a day that has become the modern Kristallnacht. Primal Fear unpacks antisemitism to explain how it has shape-shifted over the millennia.

A pro-Palestine march down Main Street in Park City drew roughly 100 protesters to the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday. The march, organized by “Let Gaza Live,” bussed protesters in from nearby Kimball Junction and took up space in front of local restaurant Riverhorse on Main.
The event was not affiliated with Sundance. The protest comes as several families of those held hostage by Hamas amid the ongoing war with Israel have been attending events on the ground in Park City.
“Genocide Joe, what do you say? How many kids did you kill today?” the crowd chanted as festival goers in bulky sweaters ate brunch in an atrium above the street. They referenced President Joe Biden, carrying signs labelling the world leader as a “butcher,” as well as decrying Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The protest remained peaceful, though Park City police ultimately closed almost all of Main Street, the center of the annual cinema gathering.

(Updated with more details) Chanting the controversial line of “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” actress Melissa Barrera joined almost 100 pro-Palestinian protestors today at the Sundance Film Festival.
Marching halfway up Park City’s Main Street in the snow, the protesters were under heavy police surveillance and swarmed by media. With the huge media spotlight that Sundance attracts every year, capturing the attention of cameras and reporters was clearly part of the purpose of the demo Sunday.
Slamming the Biden administration’s stance on Israel and strong allegiance with the Jewish State over the horrors of Hamas’ murderous attack on Israel on Oct. 7, protestors recycled an old anti-Vietnam War chant. With signs in the crowd calling President Biden a “butcher, demonstrators screamed: “Genocide Joe, what do you say? How many kids did you kill today?”

On Sunday, January 21, in Park City, nonprofit organization Jew in the City is hosting a panel discussion at Sundance that aims to debunk what it says are tropes about Jewish people and Israel in the media. Just across town, shortly after that panel begins, a group of protestors will gather to show their solidarity for Palestinians.
The panel discussion kicks off at 11:30 a.m. Mt at The Box at The Ray Theatre; the protest begins around noon in front of the Filmmaker Lodge on Main Street. Both sides say the timing is a coincidence, but after more than 100 days of conflict in Gaza after Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel, the two events represent a microcosm of the debate and political fervor that has defined Israel and Palestine for a millennia.

Bill Maher celebrated St. Patrick’s Day on Friday during his Real Time on HBO – or, as he referred to it, “Alcoholic Christmas” – by bringing up the dangerous parallels between the religious hatreds that fueled politics in last century Ireland and the turmoil in today’s United States between Democrats and Republicans.
“You can’t think about the Irish without thinking about the division,” Maher said, harkening back to the violent rebellions that created a fractured society there. Now, the same level of intensity is bubbling between Democrats and Republicans here, he noted. “We used to pray for the nation. Now each side prays the other side doesn’t destroy the nation.”
Taking excerpts from a speech former President Donald Trump gave recently at the Cpac convention, Maher noted how it reflected an almost Biblical level of intensity about smiting the other side. It was “big talk from a guy...

Israeli-American actress-producer-author Noa Tishby was compiling research for what would eventually become her newly released non-fiction book “Israel: A Simple Guide to the Most Misunderstood Country on Earth” (Simon & Schuster) when she discovered that — save for Golda Meir’s 1973 autobiography and English translations of Israeli historian Anita Shapira’s work — there were no books on the history of Israel penned by a woman.
“It was shocking to me,” says Tishby, who first broke on the scene in the hit 1990’s Israeli series “Ramat Aviv Gimmel” and would later go on to sell the Israeli drama “BeTipul” to HBO. The resulting series “In Treatment,” which Tishby co-executive produced, went on to win a Peabody award, two Emmy awards (for Dianne Wiest and Glynn Turman) and ushered in the popularization of Israeli small screen formats for American audiences. Somalia, Horn of Africa. Tony (Michael Weatherly) is tied up and being held hostage by Saleem (Omid Abthai). He demands Tony tell him everything. Tony..."because I'm gonna tell you anything." Well, yes Tony, don't think you won't. Saleem has concocted his own formula of sodium pentothal and other agents to get the truth. Tony comments Saleem will die soon, "Truth or not?" Saleem has studied America, as well as studying in America. He's a great believer in knowing his enemy. As he hadn't heard of NCIS until now, so where's he been then, that's a bit ignorant coming from someone who studied in the Us. In Tony's questioning, we get a rundown of the premise of the show and introduction to the team, just so we don't forget, ha! Into season 7, it was more a potted history for new viewers. I hate we're a year behind in the UK!

The Deep End, the new midseason show from ABC, premieres on January 21st. Normally, I might say something along the lines "oh, no…..not another law show". But I've fallen in love with The Good Wife, so I'm not as skeptical lately.
Plus, I just took a look at the promo photos for the pilot episode and realized that this show stars Billy Zane. Billy Zane! Dude is badass. I don't know why, I just love him. And you know that if a walk-off breaks out in the show, Billy Zane will be around to call it. So things are already looking up.
Oh, and for all you Twilight fans, that chick who got fired from the third movie is making a guest appearance in the pilot episode on January 21st. Check out the photos below. I'm hoping to get some video previews for you all soon.

"In Treatment" will return for a third season.
HBO has renewed the half-hour drama series for another cycle, which will begin production in New York in early 2010 for a premiere later in the year.
Star Gabriel Byrne is set to return as Dr. Paul Weston, with casting on the other roles expected to begin shortly.
Anya Epstein (HBO's "Tell Me You Love Me") and Danny Futterman ("Capote") are joining the therapy-themed drama as executive producers/co-showrunners.
That follows the July departure of Warren Leight, who served as executive producer/showrunner on the second season of "Treatment," which earned three Emmy nominations.
Also complicating the pickup decision was the fact the Israeli series on which the HBO show is based only ran for two seasons, so a third season had to be written from scratch.
But in the end, "This is the kind of show that could only flourish on HBO,...
