If you’ve ever pondered why the world exists, Ice Age: Collision Course offers a theory—Scrat, the franchise staple saber-toothed squirrel unleashed a sequence of cosmic ping-pong while on his endless hunt for an acorn. But if you’ve ever wondered why the Ice Age series endures, well…I’m afraid I can’t help you with that one.
There has been an unwritten truce between animation studios and parents since at least the last glacial period: the shops make entertaining cartoons with subtle, smart messages for adults, and the grownups bring the kiddies to the theater. Ice Age seems determined to upset the natural order. I suppose kids old enough to understand them may be amused by the parade of poop and butt jokes. But, more likely, those who understand scatology will be too old to care for the film’s mostly unfunny one-liners and clownish physical humor.

The Ice Age flicks are the cinematic equivalent of drive-through nuggets of reconstituted chicken slurry served by a bored teenager in a cardboard hat. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing
I’m “biast” (con): really hate this series
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
Manny the Mammoth is back! In this Very Special Episode of Ice Age, Manny gets exasperated by the fact that his wife, Ellie, and daughter, Peaches, are independent creatures with minds of their own: “Women! I don’t get ’em!” he exclaims [insert laugh-track clip of a 1967 studio audience roaring]. Watch what happens when Manny forgets his wedding anniversary — he’s gonna be in trouble with the missus! [studio audience groans dramatically] And then there’s Peaches’ upcoming wedding to loveable doofus Julian. [studio audience: “awwwww!”] Is it the end of Manny’s world now that his little girl is officially all grown up? It just might be… what with that massive asteroid heading straight for planet Earth!

Updated Writethru, 10:42 Am: For the second frame in a row and following a sizable expansion, Fox's Ice Age: Collision Course leads the international studio weekend with $53.5M. The newest “Ice Age” is out next month, and at least a couple critics seem to wish the franchise would hurry up and go extinct. Writing for The Wrap, Alonso Duralde opens his review by calling the series as a whole “so blandly forgettable that parents could probably show an earlier entry to their kids and pretend it’s the new one.” He continues, writing that the fifth installment in the prehistoric saga lacks “laughs, energy and sharp edges in equal degrees to its predecessors” and “takes huge strides in the hotly-contested race to be 2016’s Most Irrelevant Sequel.”

One small step. One giant mess. Scrat’s seemingly relentless pursuit of that iconic acorn reaches new heights in Ice Age: Collision Course, the fifth chapter in Fox and Blue Sky’s lucrative animation, who sets in motion a chain of cosmic events that results in a giant meteor being sent careering toward the planet.
Back on Earth, Sid, Manny, Diego and the rest of the gang are left facing imminent extinction – not for the first time – and today’s all-new clip for the sequel tees up that event by raining down space rocks on the clueless herd.
Guiding that Collision Course into theaters are directors Mike Thurmeier and Galen T. Chu, who have assembled a who’s who of talent in the voice booth.
Headlining that ensemble are the regulars: Denis Leary, Ray Romano, Queen Latifah, John Leguizamo and Jennifer Lopez, who all reprise their key roles from Continental Drift.

Scrat’s relentless pursuit of that elusive acorn may have acted as the comedic lynchpin throughout the Ice Age franchise – a recurring gag that somehow weaves its way into the story time after time – but it’s really the cast of larger-than-life primordial mammals that ensure each installment scores well at the box office.
Hoping to uphold tradition later this year is Ice Age: Collision Course, which today premiered its final trailer ahead of release that features, you guessed it, Scrat scrambling after the wayward acorn. But there’s a twist to the tale, with a series of unfortunate events resulting in a massive asteroid thrown into a crash course with Earth and all of our heroes therein – i.e. Sid, Manny and Diego.

Strangely dropping a press release on a historic day where the nation's attention is elsewhere, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed their annual list of new member invitees this morning. For those who criticize the makeup of the Academy there was some good news and the stark realization the organization still has a long way to go. The Academy has spent the last eight to 10 years attempting to diversify its membership and this year's class mostly reflects that. There are significantly more invitees of Asian and African-American descent, but the male to female disparity is still depressing. Out of the 25 potential new members of the Actor's Branch only seven are women. And, no, there isn't really an acceptable way for the Academy to spin that sad fact. Additionally, It's important to realize the 322 people noted in the release have only been invited to join Hollywood's most exclusive club.

Chicago – It ain’t over until the fat mammoth sings, and that’s precisely what happens—more or less—in “Ice Age: Continental Drift,” the fourth installment of Blue Sky Studios’ increasingly tedious, decade-old franchise. Why can’t any of Pixar’s rival animation studios come up with a marketable formula better than Celebrities Voicing Animals Delivering Tired Sitcom Dialogue?
Whereas “Madagascar 3” represented this formula operating at its finest, “Ice Age 4” represents its nadir. With 3D visuals on the level of a pop-up book and bored actors mugging their way toward their next easy paycheck, this picture is dead on arrival, yet its particularly brand of badness is more peculiar than one might expect. Just how many kiddie movies have attempted to merge DeMille-level spectacle with booger jokes? Thankfully, not that many.

Ice Age: Continental Drift is the fourth outing in the series from Blue Sky Studios, the CGI animation company that also brought Rio to cinemas last year. Produced by a team involved at various levels with the previous three Ice Age films, Continental Drift sticks to its safe, child pleasing formula. Aimed at a pre-teen audience, the film offers little for those actually paying the demographics’ price of admission, but it’s filled with the kind of goofy material that kids eat up.
Directors Steve Martino and Mike Thurmeier open the film in somewhat odd fashion, using their entire animated short “Scrat’s Continental Crack-Up” for the film’s opening minutes,...

If it feels as though nothing is happening in the movie world except a relentless torrent of superhero news, you're not alone. (In fact, let's get one thing out of the way: "The Dark Knight Rises" opens Friday.) But of the offerings currently available to moviegoers, Steve Martino and Mike Thurmeier's "Ice Age 4: Continental Drift" proved most popular. The film chalked up an uninspiring $45.5 million over the weekend, edging out "The Amazing Spider-Man."
Where the "Ice Age" films are strongest, however, is the international box office. The film was already breaking records before it opened in the States, according to Deadline.com and THR reports that "IA4" brought in $95 million internationally this weekend. That brings the total non-domestic gross to $339 million and a global cume of $385 million. That $385 million can be disappointing in Hollywood tells you everything you need to know about Hollywood. (To be fair, 2009's "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs...

Our favorite sub-zero heroes return for .Ice Age: Continental Drift,. the fourth installment of the popular franchise. This time, the gang is faced with global disaster involving random unfunny lines and half-baked storytelling.
Directed by Steve Martino and Michael Thurmeier, this new .Ice Age. cements the fact that the series is not aging gracefully. Many of the actors are just going through the motion, reading lines as if they.re by-the-numbers. But thank heaven for Scrat! The sabre-tooth squirrel who.s nuts for nuts saves the day.
Manny the Mammoth Guy (Ray Romano) and his wife Ellie (Queen Latifah) now have a teenage daughter named Peaches (Keke Palmer) who is experiencing the growing pains of falling in love. Meanwhile, Sid the Sloth (John Leguizamo) reunites with his cantankerous grandmother voiced by Wanda Sykes.

20th Century Fox is using the popularity of "The Dark Knight Rises" to promote it's fourth "Ice Age" movie by releasing a TV spot, called "The Dark Nut," that has Scrat acting like Batman. Check it out below. Plot: Scrat's nutty pursuit of the cursed acorn, which he's been after since the dawn of time, has world-changing consequences -- a continental cataclysm that triggers the greatest adventure of all for Manny, Diego and Sid. In the wake of these earth-shattering upheavals, Sid reunites with his long lost family, and the gang encounters new characters determined to stop them from returning home. The new movie is directed by Steve Martino (Horton Hears a Who) and Mike Thurmeier (Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs), and is set to hit conventional and 3D theaters on July 13th. Ice Age: Continental Drift, the fourth instalment of the incredibly popular franchise, hits cinemas on wide release this Friday, and after the last film took almost $900m. worldwide, I’m very interested to see how Ice Age 4 will compare.
Granted, Dawn of the Dinosaurs didn’t have The Amazing Spider-Man the week before and The Dark Knight Rises the week after, so I don’t think a similar performance is necessarily expected, but all three films to date have done very well for themselves, and this latest film has been performing very well in international markets in its early release abroad.
Ahead of its release this weekend comes a new batch of posters and banners for your viewing pleasure.

★★☆☆☆ It was always inevitable, but time appears to have finally been called on the popular Ice Age series. What was once lovable and warm-hearted has become a cynical corporate cashpoint, and aside from the reliability of mischievous, acorn-loving squirrel Scrat, there’s not much to take away from the latest entry, Steve Martino and Mike Thurmeier's Ice Age 4: Continental Drift (2012).

With the anticipated release of the Twentieth Century Fox Animation/Blue Sky Studios 3D animated comedy ‘Ice Age: Continental Drift’ on July 13, fans of the film series can learn to do the shuffle, just like one of their favorite characters, Sid. The dance is set to accompany the third sequel in the series, which was directed by Steve Martino and Mike Thurmeier. ‘Ice Age: Continental Drift’ follows Scrat’s nutty pursuit of the cursed acorn, which he’s been after since the dawn of time. As a big fan of John Leguizamo's work in the past, it's a little disappointing that the only thing keeping his career from falling into oblivion is the continuance of the Ice Age franchise. However, I have to say that his toothy character Sid the Sloth is certainly one of the better parts of the newest trailer for Ice Age: Continental Drift, the fourth film in the animated film series. Plus, it's a big help that we also get to see what kind of villains we're dealing with and that they're a rag tag team of animal pirates led by a prehistoric orangutan voiced by none other than "Game of Thrones" favorite Peter Dinklage. Second trailer below! Here's the new trailer for Blue Sky Studios' Ice Age: Continental Drift, in high def via Apple: Here's a synopsis for Ice Age: Continental Drift, co-directed by Steve Martino and Mike Thurmeier...

Honestly, if I was forced to judge Summer 2012 at first glance, I would say it was pretty weak. Compared to 2011 and 2010, there's just not as many movies to look forward to. While it seems easy to write off this Summer as a dud, I have three reasons why it might actually be awesome; The Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers, and Prometheus. Honestly, that's all Summer 2012 needs in order to be one for the history books. Even then, there's still more than enough films to warrant your attention this summer. To help you sort through them all, we've once again compiled all the most interesting films of the season into four easy to read, informative guides. For the next four days, we'll take you on a journey through the best cinema has to offer in Summer 2012. Welcome to our Summer 2012 Movie Guide! Today's guide will focus on the month of July,...

Stranger things have happened to movie franchises that have warmed out their welcome. The jokes get more stale, the story becomes more trivial, and the cast seem like they are just phoning it in. Whether or not this is happening to Ice Age: Continental Drift remains to be seen. But based on the trailer, its pretty evident that the franchise is running on empty.
Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, and Chris Wedge all return as a band of misfit prehistoric animals who are separated from their herd, when the giant land mass known as Pangea starts to separate. Jennifer Lopez, Nick Frost, Rebel Wilson, Aziz Ansari, Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage, and more join the cast of the movie. But are they enough to keep the movie afloat? Check out the trailer below.

"The end of the world is just the tip of the iceberg." Fox has unveiled a theatrical trailer for the animated sequel from Blue Sky, the fourth in the series: Ice Age: Continental Drift. As is usual with the marketing for these, Fox has been teasing us with various Scrat shorts (including "The Scratist" before the Oscars) but now we finally get a real look at the full story and all the lovable prehistoric characters back again. Manny (Ray Romano), Diego (Denis Leary), and Sid (John Leguizamo) all return, along with plenty more.
