Exclusive: Artists Equity has come on to Kiss of the Spider Woman, serving as the main studio and producer of the feature adaptation of the 1993 Broadway musical based on Manuel Puig’s landmark 1976 novel. Diego Luna and Tonatiuh will star in the adaptation as Valentin Arregui and Luis Molina, respectively. They join Jennifer Lopez, who was previously announced in the titular role. Puig’s novel was, of course, previously adapted for the screen by Héctor Babenco. That 1985 version was nominated for four Oscars, with William Hurt winning Best Actor.
The show, which won seven Tony Awards, was written by Terrence McNally with a score by composer John Kander and lyricist Fred Ebb. The film is scripted and directed by Oscar winner Bill Condon, with Barry Josephson, Tom Kirdahy and Greg Yolen producing alongside Ben Affleck and Matt Damon for Artists Equity, which has secured independent financing for the film.

New year, new look. Tina Fey returns in a film adaptation of the 2017 musical adaptation of her breakout 2004 comedy that catapulted many young stars, including Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried. The new Mean Girls film previously released a trailer that somewhat hid that it was based on a Broadway musical. Paramount has unveiled a new “Revenge Party” trailer that showcases a bit more of its musical elements, but for the most part, looks like a straight-up remake of the original. This new incarnation features a cast that includes Angourie Rice as Cady Heron, Auli’i Cravalho as Janis ‘Imi’ike, Reneé Rapp as Regina George, Jaquel Spivey as Damian Hubbard, Avantika as Karen Shetty, Bebe Wood as Gretchen Wieners, Christopher Briney as Aaron Samuels, Jenna Fischer as Ms. Heron, Busy Philipps as Mrs. George, Ashley Park as Madame Park, Jon Hamm as Coach Carr, Tina Fey as Ms. Norbury...

The first trailer for the movie adaptation of the “Mean Girls” musical has officially arrived, so get in loser, we’re going back to Northshore.
Much like the teaser that ran ahead of the “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” concert film, the footage not only introduces the new Plastics, Cady, Janis and more, but also contains plenty of moments from the original movie — and even an easter egg for the stage production.
We first meet Angourie Rice’s Cady, who is of course struggling in her new school. But, as we know, she quickly befriends Janis (Auli’i Cravalho) and Damian (Jaquel Spivey), who protect her from Regina George (Renee Rapp) — who apparently causes lights to flicker when she enters.
We also get a look at the performance of “Jingle Bell Rock” — though apparently, much more, uh, explicit, this time — along with Tina Fey’s Ms. Norbury and Tim Meadows’ Mr.

In another move to feed the beast of frosh streamers, Universal has announced that their Jennifer Lopez-Owen Wilson romantic comedy Marry Me will stream on Peacock the same weekend the movie hits theaters, Feb. 11-13.
Previous theatrical-day-and-date Peacock releases include DreamWorks Animation’s The Boss Baby: Family Business ($57.3M domestic) and Blumhouse/Miramax’s Halloween Kills. The latter film didn’t seem to be eroded that much by its Peacock release posting a healthy $49.4M domestic opening and a $92M final tally stateside.
Marry Me, directed by Kat Coiro, follows a musical superstar, played by Lopez, who is about to be proposed to by her fellow music supernova (Maluma in his feature film debut) before a global audience of fans. However, she learns that he’s been unfaithful and decides to marry Charlie (Wilson), a stranger in the crowd instead.

“Marry Me,” Universal’s romantic comedy starring Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson and Latin pop star Maluma, has been bumped again, this time all the way to Valentine’s Day 2022.
“Marry Me” will now open on February 11, 2022, pushed back from its most recent release date on May 14, 2021. It will take the place of an untitled Universal event film on the calendar. The movie was originally meant to open this weekend in time for Valentine’s Day 2021 but was delayed until the summer after the studio dropped a teaser trailer.
The studio has also slated an untitled Blumhouse horror film for release on January 28, 2022.
Universal had already moved the spy film “The 355” to January of 2022, the action movie starring Jessica Chastain and Lupita Nyong’o that was meant to open early this year. And “Marry Me” will now open on the same date as Sony’s “Uncharted” with Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg.

“Marry Me,” the romantic comedy starring Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson and Latin pop star Maluma, has been bumped from its Valentine’s Day release to the summer of 2021.
“Marry Me” will hit theaters May 14, 2021, after first being slated for February 12. And it will take the place of “Spirit Untamed,” an animated follow-up to the horse family movie “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.” That film is now moving back a month and will open in theaters June 4, 2021.
While it’s not necessarily a sign of things to come, it is an instance of a studio moving a theatrical release not just out of Q4 of 2020 but even out of the first quarter of next year as well. Though on that weekend in February alone, studios are also releasing Paramount’s “The United States vs. Billie Holiday,” Sony Pictures Classics’ “French Exit” and 20th Century Studios’ “The King’s Man.”

Universal Pictures’ Jennifer Lopez music fueled romantic comedy Marry Me is moving from Presidents Day-Valentine’s Day weekend on the theatrical release calendar next year, Feb. 12 and going to May 14, 2021.
Marry Me will take the place of DreamWorks Animation’s Untitled Spirit Riding Free movie which has now been title Spirit Untamed. That animated pic will now open on June 4, 2021.
This is one of Lopez and Wilson’s highest tested features, I hear, and Universal wants to make an event out of this, at an opportune time on the calendar.
Still, with Wonder Woman 1984 expected to move, and the holiday release schedule in meltdown as we wait out the coronavirus, we can expect more 1Q 2021 theatrical releases to further shift in the future.

Exclusive: Katey Sagal has been set to star in Bleed For This. She will play Louise Pazienza, the mother of fighter Vinny Pazienza in the film directed and scripted by Ben Younger. She joins Whiplash star Miles Teller, who’ll play the former world champ known as the Pazmanian Devil, with Aaron Eckhart playing trainer Kevin Rooney, Amanda Clayton playing Doreen Pazienza, and Ciaran Hinds and Tom DeNucci also starring.
Sagal takes the role as her character continues to be the fulcrum for carnage in the final season of Kurt Sutter’s Sons Of Anarchy.
Bleed For This deals with Pazienza’s miraculous recovery from a car crash that left him with a broken back. He was told he might never walk again, let alone fight, but no one could stop the Pazmanian Devil, a world champ in two weight classes. Pic is produced by Sikelia’s Martin Scorsese and Emma Koskoff Tillinger,...
