Welcome to The X Factor, sponsored by Aleve — the long-acting analgesic with the power to ward off gale-force migraines caused by the pack of perpetually screeching harpies sitting in the first three rows of the audience.
It doesn’t matter what the Top 13 are singing. It doesn’t matter how the judges are reacting. It doesn’t matter if Demi Lovato can’t pronounce the names of the singers she’s mentoring. And it doesn’t even matter whether the producers fill Mario Lopez’s teleprompter with the script from Ken Burns’ Jazz or an announcement that a meteor is...

More folks may be watching The Voice, but The X Factor is still the show with all the hype. And the reason for that, simply, is Demi Lovato and Britney Spears. While the judges wait for the next Melanie Amaro, Josh Krajcik or Rachel Crow to walk onstage (so far we've got Paige Thomas, Jason Brock and Carly Rose Sonenclar, not a bad start), all eyes are on the talent already sandwiched between Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid. And the consensus so far seems to be that the already established stars—both onetime Disney phenoms who are now occupying a level of fame that makes our ears pop just thinking about it—are a great addition to the show. Here are five reasons to watch Demi and...

The X Factor finally returned last night and it did not disappoint. The singing was great (for the most part), Britney Spears and Demi Lovato were entertaining, and the revamped look of the show was stunning. Throw in a little Khloe Kardashian and this contest may actually beat The Voice in the ratings this year.
Here are 5 things The X Factor did right in its season-two premiere. Let us know if you agree or disagree. And tell us what you thought of Britney judging style.
1. It’s Britney, Bitch!
We never doubted Britney Spears would be a great addition to The X Factor judging panel. What was in doubt was her ability to form fully developed thoughts without the assistance of her caregiver/fiance Jason Trawick. And would Britney be able to go an entire two hours without smacking on a piece of Juicy Fruit? Well, color us surprised, y’all,...

It's good to have Britney Spears back. She's a star, whatever her ups and downs, and the originator of some of the most iconic pop images of the past 20 years. Yes, it's always good to know Britney is in the house. Or simply a house. Or even The X Factor. Wednesday saw her debut as a judge on season 2 of Fox's colossally ambitious - if not colossally successful singing competition - along with 20-year-old Demi Lovato. Juxtaposed with the 30-year-old Spears, Lovato looked very young. Simon Cowell, who suffered a ratings disappointment with season 1, let Spears dominate the two hours.

Britney Spears was definitely the focus of the season two premiere of "The X Factor" -- but there were some pretty great performances too! While much will be made of the painfully awkward exchange between Britney and her former duet partner Don Philip, we want to highlight some of the better moments of the show as well. The premiere definitely hooked us in right away with the audition of Paige Thomas, the 21-year-old girl with the Rihanna neck tattoos and adorable daughter Jade. Her stage presence and overall sense of style were top notch as she sang Mary J. Blige's "I'm Goin' Down" during the Austin, TX auditions. The judges loved her too -- and we're pretty sure we'll be seeing much more of her in the future.Joining Paige in the stellar stage department was 18-year-old Jannel Garcia from Rochester, Ma -- who walked on stage looking all cute,...

I was really hard on The X Factor in its first season, mostly because it was a much more overproduced and less talented version of American Idol. Those two issues will need time to receive a full assessment, but after one night the addition of a pair of great judges made for a winning season opener.
After trips to Austin, San Francisco and Providence, Simon, La, Britney and Demi saw a lot of talented singers, and as always, some that were anything but. Let's take a look at The Good, The Bad and The Judges.
The Good
Paige Thomas: A 21-year-old nursing student with an adorable little daughter, Paige wowed the judges with her version of "I'm Going Down." She was a big Britney fan because they are both hot moms, but La instead compared her to Rihanna so that he could drop that name for the first time of the season.

Lightning flashed. Crazy people spat and swore. Someone got carried out on a stretcher. And then, a geometric meteor streaked toward the Statue of Liberty.
This is…the cold open of The X Factor‘s Season 2 premiere?
Lest you found yourself confused, Simon Cowell & Co. quickly cut from the intergalactic-themed credits to a familiar image: A convoy of X Factor-branded 18-wheelers driving through the barren highways of the American heartland. (Little known “fact”: Steve Jones is still on the payroll, but this year he’s behind the wheel of one of those trucks, rather than the microphone.)

So...what do you think of Britney Spears and Demi Lovato on The X Factor?! Sure, the second season of Simon Cowell's British import kicked off on Fox tonight, ostensibly to find the next big pop star. But we obviously couldn't help paying more attention than usual to the judges' table. And (thank you, producers) we got to see Spears and Lovato be both awestruck and appalled within the first few minutes of Wednesday's premiere. "You are so bright and beautiful onstage and you exude so much confidence. You're flawless," Britney praised 21-year-old Paige Thomas, whose little daughter watched from the wings as mommy blew the judges away with Mary J. Blige's "I'm...

Move over, Simon Cowell. Britney Spears is proving she can bring the mean—or shall we say blatant honesty—that comes with being an X Factor judge, too! We caught a sneak peek at tonight's season two premiere of the Fox reality competition show and have all the singing scoop on Spears and Demi Lovato's judging debut. So how did they do? The auditions begin in Austin, Texas, with one of the night's best talents—21-year-old mother Paige Thomas, who blows the judges' socks off with an emotional story and performance of Mary J. Blige's "I'm Going Down" that leaves Cowell mouthing, "Wow!" "You remind me of a girl I met about five or six...
