Jerry Seinfeld’s Pop-Tart comedy Unfrosted debuted in Los Angeles on Tuesday, where its star-studded cast was also joined by a special guest heaping praise on the film.
Jay Leno — alongside wife Mavis — crashed The Hollywood Reporter‘s red carpet interview with Seinfeld, as he joked, “I’m so sick of these hard-hitting, controversial documentaries. Can’t somebody just make a comedy anymore? Everything is a teachable moment and, ‘Oh I learned this.’ I just want to come and laugh.”
Seinfeld teased, “Because you’re not smart enough to learn anything,” as the friends of 45 years laughed, and Leno declared that the movie “is exactly what America needs right now, it’s going to be a really funny movie.”

Rebel Moon, a film that director Zack Snyder first had the idea for in the ’80s, finally made its big-screen debut on Wednesday night, premiering at Hollywood’s historic Tcl Chinese Theatre.
The sci-fi project — split into two parts, with Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire streaming on Netflix this month and Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver coming in April — follows a peaceful settlement on the edge of a distant moon that is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruling force, and a mysterious stranger Kora (played by Sofia Boutella) who becomes their best hope for survival. Snyder told The Hollywood Reporter that a premiere would usually mean he would get to rest and celebrate being done with a film, but this time, he’s back to work the next day finishing Part Two.
Of crafting the world, Snyder said he starts “with story of course,...

Zac Efron undergoes quite the transformation in The Iron Claw, putting on pounds of muscle to become professional wrestler Kevin Von Erich; he also dons a shaggy wig for the role and often wears tiny wrestling shorts in the ring.
“In the best way possible, I did not look anything like me. It was jarring at first, but we kind of put it together piece by piece,” Efron told The Hollywood Reporter at the film’s Los Angeles premiere on Monday. “Individually, the wig by itself looks kind of ridiculous; by themselves, the clothes look pretty crazy. When you put them all together in the sets that our team built and get out there in the ring under those lights, it looks like the Von Erichs, man, and that’s was our goal. I think it added a lot to it.”

Taika Waititi is weighing in on superhero fatigue at the box office, admitting that even he himself needs a break from that big-budget world.
Following Marvel’s recent string of misses with their last few films, there have been questions about if audiences have grown tired of superhero content; when asked about the trend at the Los Angeles premiere of his new movie Next Goal Wins on Tuesday, Waititi told The Hollywood Reporter, “I don’t know. I’m a bit fatigued by working on those big films, studio films, which is why I’ve come back to do smaller films like this; my next film will be a smaller one.”
The Thor director noted, however, that “there’s always a place for them and they’re always inspirational. As a little kid, those are the things I loved, going to see these big movies set in outer space to...

After a career of iconic, empowering roles, Viola Davis is ready to be the bad guy.
The star plays the villainous head gamemaker in the new prequel movie Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, an experience that she said she “absolutely loved.”
“Just seeing how many times you can make someone squirm — like Tom Blyth, oh man it was a joy because he was very receptive to it, so I was just so happy about poking him,” Davis told The Hollywood Reporter at the film’s Los Angeles premiere on Monday. “Even in the scene when I had to inject him and give him stitches, I think, loved it.”
She added that she was drawn to the Hunger Games franchise after reading Suzanne Collins’ book and wanting to “see if I can be in this world. That’s the thing with actors, when you feel like can you do it,...

As the writers strike labors on in its 20th week, hundreds of showrunners united in a show of solidarity at Fox in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, some of the television industry’s top creators are set to meet with the Writers Guild of America’s top leadership Friday for a high-level status update on where negotiations stand.
Sources say Kenya Barris (Black-ish), Noah Hawley (Fargo) and Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot) are among a small contingent who had sought out a meeting with the WGA negotiating committee co-chair Chris Keyser and other union officials. The buzz about a showrunner meeting first surfaced late last week and was fueled over the weekend until eventually plans for two different meetings were scrapped after fears emerged that the mere idea could be considered a crack in the WGA’s solidarity.

“We’re here in solidarity with all of us, with all of our brothers and sisters who are affected by this, and the WGA and SAG,” Bryan Cranston said to a crowd outside Sony Pictures Studios. “We are all the backbone of our business.”
The actor added, “We’re not making them [studios and streamers] the enemy, they’re not villains. These are people we all will be working with once again at some point. We just want them to see reality and fairness and come back to the table and talk to us.”

Zachary Levi straddled the past and future of DC at the Shazam! Fury of the Gods premiere, a splashy affair that made good on the premise of Big meets supeheroes with a party that featured arcade games and a carnival-like atmosphere.
Levi, taking the stage at the Regency Village Theatre in Westwood, thanked leadership at Warner Bros., New Line and DC, which has faced executive shakeups since the days of Levi’s first film. Among those Levi thanked were new DC Studios co-head Peter Safran (a producer on Fury of the Gods) and former DC boss Walter Hamada, who exited his post as DC Films chief last year and who was instrumental in both Shazam! features. The executive, now overseeing a horror line at Paramount, was in attendance at the event.
Levi asked anyone who worked on the film to stand up before sharing a heartfelt message.

Taylor Swift is already leading the way at the 2022 American Music Awards. She claimed three prizes announced during an audio pre-ceremony hosted by Mark Tuan of the K-pop band GOT7, The Hollywood Reporter’s Tiffany Taylor, and Billboard’s Tetris Kelly. Check out the complete list of winners here.
Swift’s three wins spanned two genres. She was named Favorite Pop Female Artist and Favorite Country Female Artist in addition to claiming Favorite Country Album for “Red (Taylor’s Version).” Interestingly enough, Swift also won Favorite Country Album for the original recording of “Red” nine years ago. Those victories extend Swift’s record to 37 career AMAs, more than any other artist. And she’s still got three categories she could win at tonight’s main event, including Artist of the Year, which she has already won a record six times.
