“All Hiroto has ever known is a life on a tiny coastal speck of Japan. Much of the country has been swallowed by Yokohama Station, a mysterious, ever-growing series of buildings that’s been around for as long as anyone can remember. The few who live outside its many entrances have never seen Inside and know only rumors and legends of the station’s interior. That all changes when Hiroto is given an 18 Ticket, a mysterious item that lets him enter the massive complex for five days. The young man has always sought a purpose, but the one he finds may not be the sort he’d hoped for…” (Yen Press)
Exploring a landscape of never ending artificially produced tunnels, “Yokahama Station Sf” uses intersecting tales of life on the inside to explore the complexity of a dystopian Japan. Marking a departure from content focused on manga or light novels,...

Often regarded as the pinnacle of the franchise, Super Castlevania IV is the classic tale of vampire hunter Simon Belmont stalking Transylvania’s dark and undead overlord. As well as being infinitely playable, Super Castlevania IV is renowned for its beautiful soundtrack featuring compositions and arrangements by the Konami Kukeiha Club that were well beyond anything heard on a Nintendo system before. With Mondo pressing the 16-bit sounds to 180-gram vinyl, the label sought out French visual artist JenoLab to create a cover art that packs more bite than Dracula himself.
With a catalogue of delicious digital dreamscapes under the belt, it was only a matter of time before JenoLab would be headhunted for a cover art contract.
“Mondo sent me an e-mail after finding my art portfolio on the internet” JenoLab explains. “They asked me if I would be interested in illustrating the score for Super Castlevania IV, to which I agreed.

Fantasia [1] is one of the largest (if not the largest) genre film festival in North America. It takes place every summer in Montreal, Canada, and features all kinds of horror, sci-fi, and action films from all over the world, often with an emphasis on Asian cinema. This year is no different, with two of the biggest films being Takashi Miikie's Yatterman and Chan-wook Park's Thirst. Other fairly high profile selections include Michael Dougherty's long-delayed Trick'r'Treat, Uwe Boll's Stoic and Jaume Collet-Serra's Orphan. This year's festival takes place between July 9th and 29th. The full program schedule will be available online by the end of the week. Check out an extensive list of titles playing after the jump. Many thanks to Tsuka for filling in some details on this. The project turns out to be a manga drawn by Tanaka seperate from his work with 4C and without the intention of adapting it into a film. But I kind of wish he would. And I leave this up because it’s fantastic stuff.
Ever wonder why we have so much love for Japanese animation house Studio 4C in these pages? Well, here’s a blast from the past to clear that up for you: a series of treatment images from Tatsuyuki Tanaka’s short Fifth Dimension - in which a dentist shifts his patient’s head into the fifth dimension to treat a toothache - have been put online over at Pink Tentacle. This is stunning stuff - brilliantly drawn, energetic and totally original. Anybody know if this was ever actually made and released anywhere? The images were...
