Ventana Sur’s Proyecta Ramps Up Projects from ‘Memoria,’ ‘90 Minutes,’ ‘The Cow Who Sang…’ Producers
Aeden O’Connor’s “Sun Falls,” Manuela Martelli’s “The Meltdown” and Tomás Corredor’s “November” feature among 15 projects to be presented at Ventana Sur’s 5th Proyecta co-production forum, a wide-ranging showcase of emerging and already consolidated filmmakers plus new talents to track from Latin America and Europe.
Producer Ana Isabel Martins at Honduras’ Pulsar Cine is re-teaming with director Aeden O’Connor, whose feature debut “90 Minutes” won the Audience Award at the 37th Miami Film Festival. Their new project, “Sun Falls,” follows a passionate young man dreams of making films to denounce the corruption, poverty and violence in Honduras that succumbs to the support of the leader of a local gang.

Ventana Sur organisers anticipate a record number of participants to descend on Buenos Aires for the in-person return of Latin America’s leading audiovisual market running November 28–December 2.
This year’s edition is loaded with animation and genre, a profusion of works in progress as well as video game projects and the arrival of Spanish Screenings On Tour.
Ventana Sur is heading towards a record attendance this year as organisers said more than 2,500 participants including 400 from Europe, 100 from North America and 400 from Latin America (excluding Argentina) have registered so far.

The fifth edition of Proyecta, a Ventana Sur sidebar in association with Marché du Film and San Sebastian, will present 15 projects with the aim of fostering co-productions between Latin America and Europe.
The in-person event is taking place in Buenos Aires from November 28 to December 2.

New projects from Ulises Porra and Beatriz Seigner are among the 14 taking part in this year’s San Sebastian Europe-Latin America Co-production Forum, now in its 11th edition.
Spanish filmmaker Porra returns to San Sebastian after Carajita, co-written and co-directed with Silvina Schnicer, received a special mention from last year’s New Directors jury. Porra’s new project Bajo El Mismo Sol is produced by Dominican Republic’s Wooden Boat Productions, a company founded by Ulla Prida, who also produced Carajita.

Like many of its counterparts worldwide, the Guadalajara Int’l Film Festival (Ficg), Mexico’s largest film festival, faced the quandary of whether to go online, reschedule or cancel altogether because of the pandemic.
It opted for a rescheduled hybrid 35th edition which would serve those either unable or afraid to travel and those without an internet connection in Mexico.
“We struck a deal with Canal 44 to have them air some of our films,” said festival director Estrella Araiza, who is adamant that despite the challenges and complications, the film community will prevail in the end. “We have to believe in cinema,” she declared. Outdoor screenings and restricted indoor cinema screenings are on the schedule while most of the master classes and conferences are online.
Ficg was pushed from its traditional March dates to the fall, where it’s now been running over Nov. 20-27.
Its inauguration on Friday Nov.

Based on a Jeremy Slater, whose credits include the upcoming The Exorcist TV remake and Fantastic Four, the Us-set thriller premiered at SXSW in the Midnight section in March.
Lost and Lord Of The Rings star Monaghan co-stars as Seth, a loner who works in an animal shelter, who is obsessed with former classmate Holly, played by Ksenia Solo.
