Michael Tabb is experiencing déjà vu.
The longtime writer, whose credits include 2012’s Werewolf: The Beast Among Us, returned to the Disney lot in Burbank, California, on Tuesday for what is now his second time hitting the picket lines in support of the Writers Guild of America. Tabb, who previously served as a strike captain at Disney during the 2007-08 strike, has been a member of the guild since 2005 and credits the 11,000-member organization for “protecting” him when writing opportunities dried up.
“I’ve actually been homeless for four years in between gigs,” he told The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday as he walked the picket line in Burbank. “The Writers Guild is protecting me. When I get a guild job, I can support myself. And if I don’t, then I can’t.”

Director: Louis Morneau. Writers: Michael Tabb, Catherine Cyran, and Louis Morneau. Cast: Nia Peeples, Steven Bauer, Stephen Rea, Ed Quinn, Ana Ularu, Rachel Dipillo, Adam Croasdell and Guy Wilson. Universal Pictures has been making werewolf themed thrillers since the early '40s and you would think that they would have perfected this genre by now. Their latest production, Werewolf: The Best Among Us, is definitely not perfect and possibly even mediocre. From the abysmal film Joy Ride 2, director Louis Morneau is no stranger to the direct-to-video style of filmaking. As well, Universal's newest production arm, Universal 1440 Entertainment, is also very familiar with Dtv releases. However, Werewolf: The Beast Among Us is unable to step away from film cliches and the title here seems like a re-imaged Van Helsing (2004). All the characters and situations seem artificial. The story, as it is, follows a group of werewolf hunters in Eastern Europe. A local town has experienced.

Universal will release Werewolf: The Beast Among Us on Blu-ray/DVD tomorrow and I had a chance to talk with the film’s director, Louis Morneau. Continue reading to learn about how this project came together, filming in Romania, and the possibility of a sequel:
Was this a project Universal approached you with or did you come to them?
Louis Morneau: This was something that Michael Tabb wrote and the studio had. They approached me and I was thrilled to do it, being a fan of the classic Universal horror pictures. I pitched a take that made it darker, added dark humor, and some steampunk elements. It basically kept to Michael Tabbs original draft, but I did a couple of quick passes on it and we were right off to Romania.
What was it like to shoot in Romania, where some of these myths had originated? Was this your first time visiting that country?...

Universal Pictures has officially started on production for a new untitled Wolfman movie that will go straight to DVD and Blu-ray. The new werewolf thriller is set to be released on on Halloween of next year 2012. Even though it wont be coming to the big screen there's no way it could be any worse than Universal's last Wolfman film, which was a giant werewolf turd. I was so disappointed in that film. This new movie will in no way be connected with the latter, so it's something that might be worth looking forward to, if your into these kinds of horror films like myself.
Untitled Werewolf Thriller stars Stephen Rea (V for Vendetta, The Crying Game), Steven Bauer (Scarface, Primal Fear), Ed Quinn (True Blood, Eureka), Nia Peeples (Pretty Little Liars, Walker Texas, Ranger), Guy Wilson (Almost Kings, Little Black Book), Adam Croasdell (Supernatural, East Enders) andRachel Dipillo (Law & Order,...

Back in June it was first rumored Universal was looking to re-write and rework Michael Tabb's would-be sequel to the failed 2010 effort The Wolfman starring Benicio del Toro and directed by Joe Johnston into a new werewolf franchise. A month later, Moviehole reported Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead, The Hitcher: I've Been Waiting and Carnosaur 2 helmer Louis Morneau would direct for a fall shoot. Now, it has become a reality as Universal announced the start of production on what they describe as an "all-new supernatural Untitled Werewolf Thriller" with Morneau directing. Filming will take place in and around Bucharest, Romania and the film won't be heading to theaters as the studio confirms it will be part of their DVD Originals line alongside such titles as The Scorpion King: Rise of a Warrior and the upcoming January release of [amazon asin="B005TK0WG8" text="The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption"] starring Ron Perlman and Billy Zane. Leave it to Universal Pictures to make an announcement on Halloween about a new werewolf movie they've got cooking. While the company known for giving us Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolfman and The Creature From the Black Lagoon, amongst many other monster movies, has a new lycanthrope film in development, it doesn't have an official title just yet.

The movie stars Stephen Rea (V For Vendetta, The Crying Game), Steven Bauer (Scarface), Ed Quinn (True Blood, Eureka), Nia Peeples (Pretty Little Liars), Guy Wilson (Almost Kings), Adam Croasdell (Supernatural) and Rachel Dipillo (Law & Order). Steven Bauer, Stephen Rea and Ed Quinn are set to star in Universal's upcoming, untitled werewolf film , which may or may not be a sequel to 2010's The Wolf Man . Bauer (discussing his time on Scarface ) told Moviehole in an interview, "I'll go up in Romania in a few days. I'm leaving for five weeks in Romania. I don't know the director quite yet, because they're sending him this week. And it's a Universal project, and it's kind of hush-hush right now. So, what I do know is that I'm going. Louis Morneau ( Joy Ride 2 ) is directing the new film penned by Michael Tabb.

Steven Bauer (Scarface, Raising Cain) revealed in an interview with Moviehole that he will star alongside both Stephen Rea (Interview with the Vampire, V for Vendetta) and Ed Quinn ("Eureka") in Universal Home Entertainment's untitled Werewolf, a potential reboot of The Wolfman being directed by Louis Morneau. The new film, penned by Michael Tabb, will take place in a 1901 Romania with the lead character, "Daniel," caring for his sick mother and attending medical school. Daniel is then recruited to join a group of nomad bounty-hunters tracking down "a disturbing presence" terrorizing the town. Daniel and "Charles" quickly bond and must work together to uncover who this new breed of werwolf is. From what I'm being told, this sequel is very "whodunit".

Bloody Disgusting reports that it is not going with the title of Werewolf and is currently untitled. The film is being directed by Louis Morneau based on a screenplay by Michael Tabb.

We got word today that a pretty interesting addition has been made to the "Monsterverse Horror Comics Ate My Brain" panel being held at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 22nd: Werewolf screenwriter Michael Tabb.
Werewolf, you may recall, is the new stand-alone film from Universal that was originally slated to be a sequel to its less than warmly received The Wolfman from 2010. Maybe we'll finally get some clarification as to the exact nature of the upcoming film to be directed by Louis Morneau (reboot, redux, sequel, or what) during the panel.
As for his Monsterverse connection, Tabb will be writing a sinister nod to "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" for an upcoming issue of Monsterverse's acclaimed Bela Lugosi's Tales from the Grave horror anthology comic book series.
Prior to the addition of Michael Tabb, here are the Monsterverse panel details:

We heard last month that Universal was planning to reboot The Wolfman, after Joe Johnston‘s take on the character was widely seen as a disappointment. Written by Michael Tabb, the new take on the character would be more in line with the original movie from 1941, acting as a sequel to that film, and (rightfully) disregarding last year’s effort.
Moviehole (via FirstShowing) now say that both a director and title have been decided upon. First off, I’m a little curious if this is actually a reboot or sequel, as some are now reporting that this is a standalone project. I imagine they’re still going the reboot route, but that’s more of a guess than anything else. The movie will be called Werewolf, and that’s a fine enough title, if only because it tells you a) that the movie’s about a werewolf, and b) this...

Even a man who is pure of heart and says his prayers by night may become a wolf when the wolfsbane blooms and the autumn moon is bright. Or … he may become another Wolfman reboot, as Moviehole reported recently. Universal's problematic retelling of the 1941 horror classic starring Benicio del Toro and Anthony Hopkins was going to get a sequel – as all things in Hollywood do now. Instead, the project was canned for a reboot that will be an original story and stand-alone picture inspired by George Waggner's film and not the Joe Johnston remake. The new film is being called Werewolf and writer Michael Tabb will be joined by director Louis Morneau to bring the man-turned-beast tale to life. It should have been a classic: beautifully shot, with Oscar-winning prosthetic FX make-up by Rick Baker, and Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins in roles originally played by Lon Chaney Jr and Claude Raines. Sadly though, the well-documented production problems thoroughly did for The Wolfman, which is why Universal seem to be drawing a line under the whole sorry affair and starting again. The Werewolf has just picked up a director in Louis Morneau. The project did begin life as a straight-up Wolfman sequel, but Michael Tabb's script is now being reworked into a stand-alone movie. It took Universal a couple of attempts to nail a werewolf movie the first time around too: The Wolf Man was one of the later horror icons added to its pantheon in 1941, and itself ignored 1936's Werewolf of London (not to be confused with An American Werewolf in London, which has its own...

The last time we heard about Universal's future plans for The Wolfman, the report was that the studio is essentially planning to pretend the 2010 film by Joe Johnston (who stepped in at the last minute) never existed. A new film called Werewolf, written by Michael Tabb, is supposedly the angle Universal will take to further exploit the classic horror property. And now the film might have a director: Louis Morneau. It's possible that the name, reported by Moviehole [1], means nothing to you. I can't say it meant anything to me. That's because I haven't seen Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead (his last film, from 2008) or The Hitcher II: I've Been Waiting, or Bats, Soldier Boyz or Carnosaur 2. Ok, wait, I have seen Carnosaur 2, but can't tell you enough about the 1995 film to be of any use now. Morneau came out of the Roger Corman machine, and that doesn't...

It was recently reported that Universal Pictures was in development on a reboot of Joe Johnston's "The Wolfman" and has hired Michael Tabb (Ring Around the Rosie) to write the script for a stand-alone picture. Moviehole has now learned that the new movie, called "Werewolf," has hired Louis Morneau to direct. Morneau's previous credits include "Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead," "The Hitcher II: I've Been Waiting" and "Bats." Judging by those credits, it's clear that the studio is not planning to release the film in theaters. Instead, it will go straight to DVD, like most of the other projects Morneau has been involved with.

A little while ago, it was revealed that rather than the originally planned straight to DVD sequel, The Wolfman (released in 2010, and directed by Captain America: The First Avenger's Joe Johnston) would instead be receiving the reboot treatment. Writer Michael Tabb has reworked the script for Universal into an original, stand-alone picture and Moviehole now exclusively report that the movie, set to be titled Werewolf, has found a director in the form of Louis Morneau. Casting is also expected to begin soon. Morneau’s previous credits include Joy Ride 2 : Dead Ahead, The Hitcher II : I’ve Been Waiting, Bats and Retroactive. Yeah...I'm guessing this is probably still going to heading straight to DVD then. Apparently, the tone of the movie will have more in common with the original 1941 George Waggner film rather than the critically panned effort from the 2009 remake.

Louis Morneau ("Bats," "Joy Ride 2") has been tapped to direct "Werewolf", the second reboot of "The Wolfman" for Universal Pictures reports Moviehole.
Originally the plan was to do a sequel to the Benicio Del Toro-led 2009 remake, now the studio is instead doing an original film which will share a link to the original George Waggner 1941 film. Michael Tabb has rewritten the script and shooting aims to kick off this Fall.
Bloody Disgusting adds that the film will go direct-to-disc rather than theatrical, which explains Morneau's hiring.

A few weeks ago reports surfaced that despite the colossal clusterfuck that was “The Wolfman," Universal was pressing ahead with another stab at the monster movie genre. Instead of a sequel however, Michael Tabb has reportedly written a script that is being tossed around under the title of "Werewolf," and shares a link to George Waggner‘s 1941 film “The Wolf Man,” the granddaddy of them all. Well, a director has been chosen, and it seems as if Universal are giving up any pretense of making a good movie. Moviehole reports that Louis Morneau has now landed into the director's chair…...

Moviehole says Universal has hired Louis Morneau, director of Joy Ride 2, Carnosaur 2 and Bats (no we weren’t aware of them either) to helm the latest reboot of their classic movie monster ‘The Wolf Man‘. The new movie, currently titled Werewolf is being penned by Michael Tabb (writer of this forgotten ‘gem’) and that we were told last month ‘shares a link’ to the original George Waggner 1941 black and white classic The Wolf Man.
Famously brought to life in 1941 by actor Lon Chaney Jr, the Wolf Man quickly became one of Universal’s best loved horror icons alongside Kaloff’s Frankenstein and Lugosi’s Dracula. Chaney Jr played the character for many years in several sequels and spin offs.
In 2003, Universal attempted to revive all these characters in the dreadful Van Helsing. The movie was a domestic bomb and the studio learned that they needed to put these characters...

So Universal Pictures doesn't want anything to do with a sequel for their ill-performing recent film of theirs called "The Wolfman," but instead they're moving ahead on "Werewolf." They just got their hands on Louis Morneau who is locked in to direct their upcoming horror picture. Morneau's previous directed works include "Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead," "Bet Your Life" and "The Hitcher II: I've Been Waiting.""Werewolf" is anything but a sequel and is actually said to be sharing similar ties with the 1941 film "The Wolf Man." The script, penned by Michael Tabb, was originally written for a potential "Wolfman" sequel. Now that "The Wolfman" sequel isn't happening, the script is going through all sorts of rewrites. After dealing with the unfortunate disaster that was the 2009 "Wolfman" film, do you think that they should still be charging on ahead with yet another werewolf movie?Source: MovieHole.net...

Since Universal's attempt to revive the classic movie monster Wolfman pretty much fell flat on its face, the studio has since wisely decided against a sequel. However, still interested in keeping the moonlighting monster alive in pop culture, Universal is instead crafting another remake of the classic monster movie, but this time with the title of Werewolf. Moviehole also reports that Louis Morneau, the man behind horror sequels like Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead, The Hitcher: I've Been Waiting, Carnosaur 2, and Bats starring Lou Diamond Phillips, will be at the helm of this new remake working from a script by Michael Tabb. Apparently this project will have some sort of link to the original George Waggner film from 1941, so this may be like a pseudo-sequel/reboot rather than a straight-up remake. The plan is to have the film ready for production in the fall and casting will begin very soon.

Universal showed how much they believe believe in their recently relaunched The Wolfman franchise by developing a direct-to-disc sequel/redo that will not only drop the Wolfman title, but also has a horrible director attached at the helm. Our very good friends at Moviehole broke the news this early morning that Uni has renamed Wolfman to a super lame and cheesy Werewolf, and has attached Louis Morneau to direct. Morneau's impressive (pure sarcasm) credits include Joy Ride 2 : Dead Ahead, The Hitcher II : I've Been Waiting, Bats with Lou Diamond Phillips, and Retroactive with Jim Belushi. This new film penned by Michael Tabb - will share a link to the original George Waggner film (from 1941) rather than Joe Johnstons ill-fated 2009 remake starring Benicio del Toro.

After Captain America: The First Avenger director Joe Johnson's critically muddled Wolfman, Universal Studios decided to reboot the beast once more and this time they've hired Louis Morneau (Joy Ride 2) for the job. Director Louis Morneau is notorious for his low budget horror flicks, mainly consisting of direct to video sequels such as The Hitcher II and Carnosaur II. His biggest project is likely the B-movie romp Bats, which starred Lou Diamond Phillips. The upcoming Werewolf will be a period piece much like the recent Benicio Del Toro headlined Wolfman. Despite the criticisms Wolfman received regarding story structure and performances, the film went on to win an Academy Award for its makeup effects. The basis for the new reboot comes from a script by Michael Tabb, which was actually...

God damn it. Time to keep those expectations low . Going for the quick cash grab, Universal has hired director Louis Morneau to helm the studio's latest Wolfman project...which is clearly now going direct-to-dvd. Morneau's credits include Joy Ride 2 , Bats and The Hitcher II . Michael Tabb penned the original script for the new film, which is now going by the title Werewolf (instead of Wolfman 2 or Return of the Wolfman ), and the story is said to be a period piece. Funny, because a direct-to-dvd film already exists entitled Werewolf , too. Let's hope Uni's project is better than that crap.

At this point it seems like most people agree that Joe Johnston's 2009 remake of The Wolfman was, at best, a massive letdown, if not an unmitigated disaster. The movie didn't even make back its $150 million budget, and yet, for some inexplicable reason Universal has actually been contemplating a sequel up until now. While the original project had a lot of potential, something tells me there wouldn't be much enthusiasm for a continuation, even with Benicio del Toro on board. In this case, it was probably going to be a direct-to-dvd feature anyway. The good news is, the proposed sequel now appears to be dead. The bad news is they've decided on another all too common route: reboot The Wolfman and start all over again! According to Moviehole [1], a script for a Wolfman sequel was in the process of being written by Michael Tabb, who also previously wrote the Tom Sizemore...

In March, we told you Universal was developing a sequel to The Wolfman for its home video division. At the time, the studio was seeking writers. Moviehole provided an update today. Michael Tabb apparently had a script for Universal, yet Moviehole says his draft is being reworked, veering away from a sequel and becoming more of a reboot that will be more in common with George Waggner's 1941 film. Tabb, according to his IMDb page, wrote the original draft of Troy and penned Ring Around the Rosie (2006). So, we have to watch Larry Talbot struggle with lycanthropy for the first time again ? Honestly, why not just do a straight-up sequel if you're going to put money into doing a period piece again? It's better than re-hashing the same story. Filming is expected to...
