Eminem‘s daughter Hailie Jade Scott has served as the rapper’s muse throughout much of his career, lighting the inner fire that elevated him from a dishwasher on the outskirts of Detroit to one of the biggest musical forces of a generation. More than just motivation, his daughter has provided lyrical inspiration, and even a guest verse or two over the years. Though relations have occasionally been strained between Eminem and Hailie’s mother, Kim Scott—as evidenced in a number of his songs—his bond with Hailie has never wavered.

There are 172 demons in the town of Willard’s Mill, and it’s up to retired sheriff Stan Miller (John C. McGinley) to stop them. There’s only one problem: Stan would rather take a nap. There is no rest for the recently retired, though, and Stan has even more undead mayhem to deal with in the new episodes of IFC’s Stan Against Evil. The second season of the horror comedy series premieres tonight on IFC, and this past summer, Daily Dead and a group of other journalists had the great pleasure of visiting the Atlanta set to see Stan’s demon-slaying arsenal and favorite recliner in person.
Nestled on a quiet neighborhood street just outside of Atlanta, the two-story home looks like a peaceful place, with its sprawling front porch and red and white colors giving it the appearance of a tranquil farmhouse. But while this home may...

Filmmaker Michael Dougherty has turned heads and raised eyebrows with his two cult classics: Krampus and Trick ‘r Treat.
The first is a festive-themed horror flick that preys on those who’ve lost touch with the Christmas spirit, while the other is a much-loved scarefest that is fast approaching its 10th anniversary. But had things panned out differently, Trick ‘r Treat, the Halloween-set anthology film written and directed by Dougherty, would’ve been summoned onto the big screen by a whole host of A-list directors.
While appearing on the latest episode of Post Mortem With Mick Garris, where he reiterated his desire to launch a bona fide sequel, Michael Dougherty recalled the lineup of talent Stan Winston (The Terminator) had assembled to direct each of the four instalments. Their names? George Romero, John Carpenter (Halloween), Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chain Saw Massacre), and Winston himself, who drew praise for...

As much as the Will & Grace revival might make us feel like not a day has a passed since the hitcom ended its original run, a whole lot of days have gone by, a point driven home hilariously by Thursday’s episode, in which Will and Jack realized that, in the gay community, they’d become the answer to the question, “Who’s your daddy?”

Hollywood has fallen in love with numerous spy superstars throughout its history. James Bond, Jason Bourne, and even Ethan Hunt are all memorable spy heroes with long-running franchises. There is something exciting about being a part of the spy world. Whether it’s the gathering of intel, the thrilling car chases, attractive romantic interests, or the prevention of some terrorist threat, the spy genre is a fruitful one. And Hollywood sure has picked from that tree over the decades.
The latest attempt of turning out a spy franchise comes in the adaptation of the Mitch Rapp book series. The popular book series started in 1999 and features twelve books, and its first film adaptation, American Assassin, is the eleventh book in the series. The film was originally supposed to star an older Mitch Rapp (Gerard Butler, Colin Farrell, and Matthew Fox were all considered for the role at one point), but...

Michael Keaton plays an Aviator-sporting ex-Navy Seal in this risible attempt to blend counterterrorism manoeuvres with The Hunger Games
The malfunctioning studio system has foisted many subprime ideas upon us recently, but this opportunistic, Trump-age hybrid of war-on-terror drama and Ya fantasy numbers among the junkiest. Ex-Maze Runner Dylan O’Brien plays Mitch Rapp, an emotionally volatile sort picked up by the CIA after pursuing the sleeper cell who gunned down his holidaying fiancee in one early breach of basic cinematic decency. Thereafter he’s assigned Aviator-sporting ex-Navy Seal mentor Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton, bent once more towards career self-sabotage), passed through whizzy Vr training exercises and dispatched to Europe alongside a babelicious colleague to recover a stray nuke while generally kicking ass for the Us of A. As Hurley growls it: “Some bad people plan on doing some bad things, and it’s our job to stop ’em.

Stars: Dylan O’Brien, Michael Keaton, Taylor Kitsch, Sanaa Lathan | Written by Stephen Schiff, Michael Finch, Edward Zwick, Marshall Herskovitz | Directed by Michael Cuesta
Based on the novel by the late Vince Flynn, and vainly hoping to bridge the gap between the spy thriller and the cold assassin sub-genres, Michael Cuesta’s film has none of the style, substance or fun of its more illustrious peers. It’s closer in quality to a modern-day Steven Seagal effort movie than a Bourne, a Bond or a Hunt.
After a strong opening, reminiscent of No Escape’s shattering holiday resort assault, Mitch Rapp (Dylan O’Brien) is left with no living parents and a dead fiancée. Angry as hell, he throws his physical energy into mixed martial arts and gun ranges, and his mental energy into hunting down the terrorist cell responsible for the murder of his muse. Mitch is being watched by the CIA.

In the new trailer for the Bryan Cranston-produced anthology series based on the work of Philip K. Dick, everything seems to be coming a little unglued.
Electric Dreams will be available on the Australian streaming service Stan, in the trailer we see all kinds of characters trying to deal with their worlds seemingly falling apart. There are aliens, masked men, and a weird looking guy with a pig face.
The show is produced by Bryan Cranston and written by a list of talented people including Ron Moore (Battlestar Galactica) and Michael Dinner (Justified). The show will air in the UK later this year, and a while after that it’ll be available for streaming on Amazon Prime. The show features a pretty impressive cast as well, Steve Buscemi, Terrence Howard among others.

Nope, no Audrey Horne on Twin Peaks this week. I think the solution to her ever-deepening mystery won’t be wrapped up for at least a few more episodes. And for the record, I do not believe she is an actress or somehow trapped inside the soap opera “Invitation To Love” from the original series. I mean, c’mon, think about it, that makes no sense. She’s an actress in a soap opera playing a character with her own name? A soap opera that references events taking place in her hometown? That’s completely absurd (right??). That theory is...

Undoubtedly, one of the most beloved genre movies to come out of 1987 was Fred Dekker’s The Monster Squad, a perfect blend of humor, heart, and affection for the classic monsters so many of us grew up on. And while it may not have done great business at the box office when it was released in August of that year, The Monster Squad has deservedly become a true cult classic, and remains a brilliant gateway horror experience for younger viewers who are just becoming initiated in the ways of genre cinema.
With The Monster Squad’s 30th anniversary nearly upon us, and with our “Class of 1987” celebration currently in full swing, I thought this would make for a splendid opportunity to chat with the actors who put the “Monster” in “The Monster Squad” in the first place: Tom Noonan (“Frankenstein’s Monster”), Duncan Regehr (“Count Dracula”), Tom Woodruff Jr. (“the...

Netflix seems unstoppable in Australia, with more than 2.7 million homes subscribed to the service at the end of March.—.a penetration rate of 29 per cent, according to a new survey.
Roy Morgan Research (Rmr) estimates Netflix posted a 20 per cent gain in subscribers in the first quarter, reaching nearly 7.1 million people aged 14-plus, up from 5.8 million in the previous quarter.
Those findings may be conservative, as some pay-tv executives believe Netflix has close to 3 million subs and that its universe will continue to grow despite the relaunch and rebranding of Foxtel.s streaming service Foxtel Now.
Rmr.s study looked only at Netflix and did not include other Svod players such as Stan (which has more than 600,000 paying customers), Amazon Prime, Hayu and NBA Season Pass.
Nor did it include Fetch TV, Australia.s largest Ott platform, which also offers Netflix and Stan and has more than 500,000 subs.

With two parallel yet overlapping inquiries under way into the Australian screen sector, what can the industry realistically hope will be the outcome?
Perhaps a requirement on Netflix, Stan and other streaming services to screen a specified amount of local content? .The long-sought raising of the location and TV producer offsets, despite the entrenched opposition of Treasury?.
Could a plan emerge to replace the local content quotas with a more flexible regime which does not threaten the current levels of children.s, drama and documentary production?
Or might both inquiries amount to a waste of time and effort whose reports will gather dust on a shelf, the fate of the 2012 Convergence Review commissioned by the Labor government, as some industry pessimists fear?.

He never made a comic. He never created a TV show. He never even went to a comic convention. But his impact on Geek Media was profound.
Without him, toy store aisles would be very different. Without him, comic shops would be very different. Without him, licensing deals would not be where they are today. And if he didn’t do what he did, millions of children would have had very different childhoods.
Last week, the news broke that the creator of Captain Action and GI Joe, Stan Weston, had died.
Creating GI Joe – and creating a category
Stan’s biggest idea was to create what would become the action figure category. He had this idea to transform the 12” Barbie Fashion Dolls into a something for boys. Just as the 1960s Barbie could transform, via a simple costume change, from a fashion model to a teacher to a nurse, he...

I’ve never been a fan of Westwood U.C.L.A or trendy, expensive restaurants. I doubt if I ever will be. But because God gets a kick out of such things my new Viacom offices were in Westwood, the reference library I was compelled to use was at U.C.La, and a trendy, expensive restaurant was where I was on my way to have lunch with Stan Lee.
Stan was kind enough to bring with him Jack Kirby… and the Black Panther.

About a week ago I had the opportunity to attend my first Stan Lee’s Los Angeles Comic Con (formally known as Stan Lee’s Comikaze) and being that I attend so many shows throughout the year I didn’t really know what to expect. Would there be something at this show that set it apart from the others? Well for me personally there was one Huge difference and that was seeing the legendary Stan Lee in person, due to the importance of his contributions to comics and pop culture throughout the years not to mention his recent decline in appearances due to his age. As I arrived early to the convention center it was evident that it was going to be a full house. In a recent...

A little over a week since I had the chance to ask Stan Lee a question and wouldn’t you know it, I’m still jacked that I had a chance to speak with him. The man is a legend. One of the first cartoons I watched growing up was Spider-man And His Amazing Friends which Stan narrated for season 2. From there, it was The Incredible Hulk with Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno, arguably the greatest superhero show in television history. Stan’s creations have been a constant in my life since my earliest memories. The chance to speak with him is a memory I’ll never forget.
With that, I wanted to spend this week reading some of my favorite Stan Lee stories. What made his work stand out where others from his era aren’t as well known? For one, I’d say his instincts on what make characters tick was dead on.

There has been a lot of talk about the adaptation of Vince Flynn’s American Assassin, much of it obviously because the Mitch Rapp franchise of books has done exceedingly well, but also because the casting news has made people wonder.
Fans of the series have wondered about Maze Runner star, Dylan O’Brien filling the role, but were apparently just as quick to hold out hope with Michael Keaton on board.
CBS Films and Lionsgate have now announced two more actors, and their roles, which rounds out the main players in the film.
Sanaa Lathan will play Irene Kennedy, the CIA Deputy Director who puts Rapp and his mentor, Stan Hurley (Keaton), on the case in question, and Shiva Negar is the Turkish agent who puts them onto the mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch) who is apparently behind trying to kick off a war in the Middle East.

Guest writer Bill Shaffer takes us back to Lawrence Kansas in 1989, for a cast and crew re-premiere of Carnival of Souls. By Bill Shaffer Note from Glenn Erickson: I think I first crossed emails with Bill Shaffer around 1998, when I was still the editor for MGM Home Video and just beginning to write MGM Video Savant. Bill sent along info that helped me convince the MGM restorers to include a flashback at the end of Duck You Sucker. Although I didn't find out until much later, Bill was a producer at the PBS station Ktwu in Topeka, Kansas, and had actually interviewed Eli Wallach once about The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Bill became a major source for info and connections when it came time to do the extras for the MGM releases of the Sergio Leone movie; all just to help out. I think the fact that...

A review of tonight's The Americans coming up just as soon as I promise you it'll be better if you blink... "This is why we're here." -Elizabeth At 10, I was too young to watch The Day After when ABC aired it in the fall of 1983, but I knew all about it. The marketing for it was inescapable, making it into the kind of event that the Jennings and Beeman families would watch together (and that even the agents of the rezidentura would want to check out). I didn't even need to see the thing to have nightmares about it, and about the larger peril of global thermonuclear annihilation that hung over us every damn day back then. More than once as a kid, I had to ask one of my parents to reassure me at bedtime that the world wouldn't blow up while I was asleep, and we know from...

Last we heard, filming for "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" was put on hold indefinitely while star Dylan O'Brien recovered from his injuries. Initially, there was hope that he would return to filming that right about now, but a statement was issued in late April to say his injuries were "very serious" and he needed more time. But there's hope on the horizon, at least for another movie, since Deadline said O'Brien is in negotiations to play Mitch Rapp in "American Assassin," based on Vince Flynn's bestselling series. Michael Keaton has already signed on to co-star as Stan Hurley, the Cold War veteran who mentors the young assassin.
According to Deadline, O'Brien would not only play the title character in the "star-making role" as a covert CIA operative, he'd age in the role over time -- starting as college-aged Mitch, and then maturing in what is hoped to be a film franchise.

Currently recovering from an on-set accident that has pushed production on Maze Runner: The Death Cure by close to two months, Deadline is reporting Dylan O’Brien has opened talks to assume the role of Mitch Rapp in an upcoming adaptation of Vince Flynn’s crime series, American Assassin.
In the works over at CBS Films and Lionsgate, should a deal place it would have O’Brien starring oppose Michael Keaton, who boarded the long-gestating project earlier in the year as Rapp’s mentor Stan Hurley, who’s described as “a badass Cold War veteran who teaches the young assassin everything he needs to know.”

Meet some of the best directors working today, who haven't gone down the blockbuster movie route...
Ever find it a bit lame when the same big name directors get kicked around for every high profile project? Christopher Nolan, Jj Abrams, maybe the Russo Brothers? With so much focus on blockbuster films these days, getting a major franchise job seems like the main acknowledgement of success for a filmmaker. And yes, both the financial and creative rewards can be great. But there are plenty of other directors out there, doing their own thing, from art house auteurs to Dtv action specialists.
Here are 25 examples.

Marvel’s Phase Three juggernaut Captain America: Civil War has upended from its Georgia set for Berlin – and the eagle-eyed fans have followed suit.
Since production kicked off, a barrage of set photos have found their way online, spotlighting Frank Grillo’s Crossbones and a regular-sized Paul Rudd. Now, picking up the threads from Ant-Man‘s post-credits scene, a trio of new images have appeared that showcase The Winter Solider himself, Bucky Barnes. Reprising his role as the conflicted anti-hero is Sebastian Stan, and here we set the character don the same garb we seen him wear in the scene with Cap and Anthony Mackie’s Falcon.
