Washington, D.C. — It was a celebration of a broad spectrum of American music — from country and jazz to musical theater and modern minimalism — at the 41 annual Kennedy Center Honors on Sunday.
That’s when the nation’s capital paused from its political concerns to toast eight showbiz titans for excellence: Superstar multi-hyphenates Cher and Reba McEntire, along with composer/pianist Philip Glass, and jazz saxophonist/composer Wayne Shorter. Tapped for a special honor was the creative quartet behind the musical “Hamilton” – writer and star Lin-Manuel Miranda, director Thomas Kail, choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler and music director Alex Lacamoire.
President Donald Trump declined to attend the event for the second straight year or host the traditional pre-gala reception for honorees at the White House. The decision, while breaking with longstanding tradition, was announced earlier and was met without visible dissent since Trump’s presence would have overshadowed the event, if not impacted it directly.

"He wants you, too, Malachai!" Read entries 100 - 81 here, entries 80 - 61 here, entries 60 - 41 here, and entries 40 - 21 here.
Since the medium’s infancy, viewers have enjoyed sharing holidays with their favourite television characters. We grow invested in our friends on screen over the years; spending Christmas with them is a rite of passage, a chance for us to share tradition from our world with the fictional ones we see on screen. Some shows embrace the season wholeheartedly, characters in good spirits and enjoying the trappings of the season; others skew a little darker, bringing the more oppressive, burdensome side of the holidays to life. Either way, Christmas episodes tend to demonstrate the strengths of our favourite series, and it’s long been a festive ritual of mine to wheel out old...

Chicago – Dear Dinesh D’Souza: Why are you afraid of alternate narratives in American History? History, as we know, is written by the winners, and you seem all sad and angry that one man, Howard Zinn, wrote a History of the United States by defining the desperation of the people left behind in the American dream. Why is that so awful? You define it as “progressive left wing” narrative, but what is your propaganda film – blithely called “America” – but a distillation of your view of history?
Rating: 1.0/5.0
You see, Dinesh, you seem to have no empathy for those in a lower station than yourself. You have determined that the power in America is in its ability to accumulate entrepreneurs. And also, all that historic pablum in the beginning – in which you leave out key facts and stage reenactments that are riddled with inaccuracies – are just the set up to reiterate...

Beloved British TV actor Nicholas Lyndhurst is returning to the show that made him a household name - as the father of his character Rodney Trotter.
The star will play Freddie 'The Frog' Robdal in an upcoming Only Fools & Horses spin-off.
Lyndhurst played Trotter in the cult BBC sitcom between 1981 and 2003.
The new prequel will also feature rising Brit talent James Buckley, who will play a young Derek 'Del Boy' Trotter in the 90-minute special, entitled Sex, Drugs & Rock 'n' Chips.
Writer John Sullivan says, "Nick Lyndhurst is a comedy genius and I can't think of anyone better suited to bring the shady but charming Freddie Robdal to life.
"James Buckley has a tough act to follow but (he) is sure to do for leather bomber jackets and winkle-pickers (shoes) what David Jason did for camel-haired coats and cocktail umbrellas!"
Jason was the original Del Boy.
Quadrophenia star Phil Daniels and Kellie Bright will also appear in the special, playing Derek and Rodney's grandfather and mum respectively.
