He took about 12,000 pictures during the Kennedy administration. One of his favorites showed the President standing in the Oval Office, clapping as his children danced and played. When Kennedy saw it, he was delighted, and signed it "For Capt. Stoughton, who captured beautifully a happy moment at the White House".
