As a child, author Jeannette Walls sometimes went hungry for days, lived for years in a rat-infested shack without running water, and fiercely loved her charismatic, alcoholic father, who frequently spent the few dollars the family had on beer. She transformed the story of her painful childhood into her 2005 book, The Glass Castle, one of the bestselling memoirs of all time. Now the book is finally coming to the big screen, as a movie starring Brie Larsen, Woody Harrelson and Naomi Watts, in theaters Aug. 11.

Not only did Ed Asner and Mary Tyler Moore have a special relationship on-screen, but the longtime costars were also dear friends off-camera.
Moore, who passed away Wednesday at the age of 80, starred opposite Asner, 87, on the Mary Tyler Moore show from 1970-77.
The actress played Mary Richards on the seven-season comedy series, a single 30-year-old who takes the job as an associate producer at a Minneapolis news station. During her time at the station, Mary worked for Asner’s character, Lou Grant. And although Lou had a tough and prickly exterior, she grew close to her boss, who became a lovable mentor.

It’s no secret that Sam Smith loves pop’s greatest divas.
Over the past year, as fans gotten to know the British crooner, they’ve learned of the fandom he has for female singers. "I've been obsessed with female diva vocals my whole life," Smith told Billboard last November.

Recently, TV Line got to chat with "Reign" executive producer, Laurie McCarthy, and she spilled some major spoiler intel for the second half of the current season 2. It turns out that Mary and Francis will keep on drifting even further and further apart as Mary still just can't get over her traumatic issues. If that weren't enough, Mary is actually going to start gravitating towards Conde! Princess Claude will continue to get even more dramatic, and more. In their spoiler spill, they stated: "As Francis and Mary drift further apart — showrunner Laurie McCarthy says Mary still can't "separate the trauma of being raped ... from the choices that Francis made" — the queen will find herself gravitating towards Condé, as seen in this unsettling exclusive photo from the winter premiere. Speaking of marriages in crisis, Princess Claude will continue to turn up the charm (and the crazy!) on Bash, whom she intends on stealing back from Kenna.

Hey guys, it’s Ryne from The Moon is a Dead World. We’re still trying to get caught up on all the horror shows right now, so this week we’re adding The Strain to the setlist, which Kevin will be covering along with Teen Wolf and Under the Dome. Shawn’s got True Blood and Extant. I’ve got the rest. Salem ends this week!
The Last Ship: “We’ll Get There” - Sunday, July 13 at 9 Pm
I’m a little disappointed in the lack of offensive right-wing material in “We’ll Get There.” After last week’s awful Russian dictator, I thought we might branch out to some sort of Chinese communist attack. Alas, we get feelings about sons and daughters, about family left behind; there’s a water shortage after the ship’s engine fails. In general, it’s a pretty serious episode without much to laugh about.

A month after Francis (Toby Regbo) locked Mary (Adelaide Kane) in the tower, things continue to be tense between the royal couple of “Reign.” Thankfully, Mary still has three of her ladies to keep her spirits up. After a playful romp in the snow-covered castle quad, the girls lament about how times have changed since first arriving in France. No more picnics in the grassy fields discussing the prospect of first kisses. Instead, Kenna (Caitlin Stasey) is married to a bastard with an imaginary title, Lola (Anna Popplewell) is pregnant with Francis’ illegitimate child, and Greer (Celina Sinden) is betrothed [...]

All I can say is that I’m very happy that I live in the 21st Century, and that my future husband will likely not own a castle with some sort of lock tower. And let’s be honest: Even if he did, he’d never have the power to lock me away in it (because, you know, equality and stuff).
That being said, I’m not totally mad at Francis right now. Is he looking out for France? Of course. Is he looking out for Mary? Yes. Is he still a teenager with a ridiculous amount of responsibility? Always.

Downton Abbey returns this Sunday (PBS, 9/8c) with Lady Mary still in mourning for her husband, six months after Matthew’s untimely death.
So how to pull the grieving widow out of the dark after such a loss? Not one, but three potential suitors certainly should help: There’s old family friend Gillingham (played by Tom Cullen), newcomer Blake (Julian Ovenden) and the Turk’s returning pal Evelyn Napier (Brendan Patricks).
Plus, the upcoming Christmas special promises to be “more optimistic” than last year’s bloody affair, says star Michelle Dockery.

'Downton Abbey' star Michelle Dockery insists her character has ''retained her bite''. The 31-year-old actress plays Lady Mary Crawley in the hit period drama and while her alter-ego is still devastated after losing her husband Matthew Crawley - played by Dan Stevens - to a car crash on the shocking Christmas Day (25.12.12) episode, she is still ''incredibly snobbish''. Michelle said: ''Because of everything that's happened to her she has become less vain with each series ... [but] Mary still has that incredibly snobbish edge to her. ''As much as she's grown and become more vulnerable, that side of her remains.

Nine months after rushing to meet a fixed premiere date at the L.A. Phil, John Adams' Passion oratorio The Gospel According to the Other Mary still doesn't feel like it's quite come to full term. Maybe it never will. Musically dynamic and enthralling in sections, this 135-minute attempt to recharge the story of Jesus' final days with contemporary relevance and social justice perspectives arguably doesn't go far enough to become genuinely provocative or penetrating. Instead, it spins some familiar wheels, both from the format of Adams' 2000 Nativity oratorio El Nino and in the familiar gestures of librettist

It's difficult to appreciate the smaller stories that appeared in episode 304 of Downton Abbey, when the life of a beloved character was hanging in the hands of an arrogant interloper and ultimately lost to that very man. That's right. Tonight we lost Lady Sybil in childbirth. The worst part was that her death was in vain.
Whoever the hell Sir Phillip was, Doctor Clarkson had known the girls since birth and his experience and knowledge of Sybil could have saved her life. As he laid very plausible medical questions on the table, Sir Phillip tossed back quips such as "Well, maybe she has thick ankles. Many women do." Guess what, Phil, Dr. Clarkson Had Seen Sybil's Ankles All Her Life!.
And Lord Grantham? What on earth has become of him during this season? He's unreasonable and subject to fits of insolence.
When his wife and the husband of his daughter...

For once, Lady Edith Crawley is the center of attention. Literally: In the opening scene the camera revolves around her in a great sweeping circle, a big goofy grin plastered on her face as she watches her servants prepare Downton Abbey for her wedding reception. How does she explain what the day of her marriage means to her? "Something happening in this house is actually about me!" The line manages to be passive-aggressive, self-effacing and utterly charming. Finally, after a lifetime of hearing how this house is the place where the Crawleys belong,...

It looks like after giving viewers a bit of history, American Horror Story: Asylum is getting back on track with the stories at hand. All of the characters that were previously taken from Briarcliff have managed to find their ways back, drawn by whatever forces they believe they must stop/help. Some of the motivations are a bit goofy, but that’s to be expected from a show that features the line “I took her teeth” in a serious moment.
Spoilers Ahead! Yet again, don’t read on if you don’t want this episode’s plot spoiled.

Downton Abbey fans, are you ready for a happily ever after? I must say, I feared it would never happen. I really thought Season 2 would end with Mary still engaged to that irritating newspaper man, Sir Richard Carlisle. Spoiler Alert: Then, during the Christmas special Mary and Matthew finally found their way back into each other’s arms. That could mean we will see a wedding during Season 3.
In fact, we have learned there are two weddings planned for the season which is thankfully filming right now. It was actress Elizabeth McGovern who plays Countess Cora Crawley, who offered up the yummy news morsel in recent interviews. But it is the official Facebook page of the series which is offering rare photos of the set. Get a load of the attention to detail in those photos! As Tina Fey might say…”I want to go to there!”

It begins by looking a lot like Christmas, thanks to a new credits sequence that shows preparations for the holidays rather than the normal montage of housekeeping.
Mary and Matthew’s story is the main event. Mary is still locked in her engagement with Sir Richard (their July wedding must have been postponed by Lavina’s death). Mary’s patience with Richard’s nouveau riche attitude and general evilness grows thin, bringing out even more of his inner mustache-twirling villain.

Spoiler Alert! Last night’s episode of Downton Abbey was a gasp-filled two hours. (Read our full recap.) Matthew sprung out of his chair to save Lavinia from injuring herself, and their wedding was back on. Violet told Matthew that Mary still loved him, and Matthew told Mary he couldn’t leave devoted Lavinia no matter how much he might want to — right before he kissed Mary while they were dancing, which Lavinia saw. Proving how selfless she truly was, Lavinia went ahead and died when she came down with the Spanish flu so Matthew wouldn’t have to decide between the two of them.

The promos said this was the In Plain Sight that you didn't want to miss. They were right.
"Something A-mish" had everything I look for: a great witness story, a heartfelt Mary/Marshall twist, and plenty of Mary's snakiness. We'll start with the witness.
Sarah was probably the witness I've cared most about all season. Sweet but strong, she had to leave her Amish way of life when she witnessed a murder. You would've thought that having her husband with her would make that a little easier. Ha!
Poor, young Sarah ended up struggling to hold her marriage together to her drug-dealing worse half. Was I horrible to think that she might have been better off without him, even when he ended up dead?
The Amish storyline gave us some really great moments. When Mary recounted the plot line from the movie Witness and then looked at this Amish family...

One of my favorite episodes of The Mary Tyler Moore Show is "Put On a Happy Face" from season three. It's the one where Mary is nominated for a Teddy Award, but everything in her life suddenly starts going wrong. It starts with a "hair bump," then moves on to a sprained foot, a nasty cold, a dress that comes back from the cleaners with a horrible purple spot on it, a broken hairdryer, and Ted as a date for the awards ceremony.
So Mary ends up going to the event with a dress borrowed from Rhoda that looks like something a grandmother (back then) might wear. It starts raining so the slipper she's wearing on her sore foot gets soggy, and then her false eyelash comes off just as they announce her name as the winner. Seriously, Mary still looks pretty fantastic even when her life goes to heck.
