The 2023 Oscars will be handed out on March 12, 2023, honoring Hollywood’s picks for the best films of the past year with all the glitz and glam we expect. In keeping with another annual tradition, that of trying to predict the Oscar winners, here are our predictions for what/who will win, should win, and for some categories, who/what should have been nominated but was not. The cast of Netflix’s ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’
A return trip to Pandora and the soaring long-awaited sequel to Top Gun made the cut and earned spots on my Top 10 Films of 2022 list. So did the story of young adult cannibals finding love in Bones and All, and the twisted tale of a friendship gone south in writer/director Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin. Austin Butler’s extraordinary work channeling the King of Rock and Roll in Elvis deserved a spot, as did the powerful retelling of the murder of Emmett Till by white supremacists in director Chinonye Chukwu’s Till.
Everything Everywhere All at Once had everything necessary to make it into the top 10 of 2022 including sci-fi, action, comedy, drama, and a fabulous cast led by Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan. You couldn’t ask for a more entertaining murder mystery than what...

Glendyn Ivin’s Penguin Bloom, the adaptation of Bradley Trevor Greive and Cameron Bloom’s novel starring Naomi Watts, The Walking Dead’s Andrew Lincoln and Jacki Weaver, will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The drama produced by Emma Cooper, Watts and Made Up Stories’ Bruna Papandrea, Jodi Matterson and Steve Hutensky is among 50 features in the line-up.
The festival’s 45th edition will run from September 10–19, a combination of physical, socially-distanced screenings, drive-ins, digital screenings, virtual red carpets, press conferences and industry talks.
Penguin Bloom’s selection is another welcome boost for Australian cinema after the news that Roderick MacKay’s The Furnace will have its world premiere in the Horizons section of the Venice International Film Festival.

What is the most significant and watched footage of actual/unstaged events ever recorded? Among the obvious candidates: Abraham Zapruder’s film of John F. Kennedy’s assassination on November 23, 1963; Nasa’s footage of Neil Armstrong’s first steps on the moon on July 21, 1969; and the live TV news footage of the second plane crashing into the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Long before those events took place, though, another one of at least as much historical importance as any of them — and, in my humble opinion, of even greater importance — was also visually recorded, seen by the vast majority of Americans alive at the time, and, yes, questioned by conspiracy theorists: the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps. The biggest difference between this footage and the rest? The story behind it has been largely forgotten. I think it’s worth retelling.

Editor-turned-producer Hugh Stewart, among whose credits is Alfred Hitchcock's original version of The Man Who Knew Too Much, died at his home in Denham, in the United Kingdom, on May 31. Stewart was 100 years old. One of Hitchcock's most respected British efforts, the 1934 version of The Man Who Knew Too Much is considered by many to be far superior to the 1956 Hollywood remake, in which James Stewart and Doris Day replaced Leslie Banks and Edna Best, whose son mysteriously disappears. About Hitchcock's working methods, Stewart remarked in the documentary Hitchcock – The Early Years: "When he came on stage for the [...]...
