Exclusive: As they open The Fall Guy, a TV series-turned-feature, director David Leitch and his 87North producing partner Kelly McCormick are eyeing a beloved graphic novel for a TV series.
Fifth Season has acquired Button Man, an adaptation of the graphic novel by John Wagner, who co-created Judge Dredd and created A History of Violence, latter of which was turned into a terrific action film by David Cronenberg. The graphic novel was illustrated by Arthur Ranson.
Deals are making, but the plan is for Leitch to direct, and he and McCormick will be executive producers alongside Alex Jackson, Roger Kass and Wagner and Ranson.

The Fall Guy Producer On Ryan Gosling & Emily Blunt’s On-Screen Relationship ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling created box office history with their respective movies last year. Oppenheimer and Barbie not only clashed at the theatres, but both were successful. The Barbenheimer clash [Barbie & Oppenheimer] was one of the most talked about topics on social media last year, and now the actors have paired up for the movie The Fall Guy about stunt performers. Producer Kelly McCormick has recently given an insight into Ryan and Emily’s incredible chemistry on the film’s set.
Emily and Ryan are two of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood, and they rekindled their Barbenheimer banter on the 96th Academy Awards stage last month. Although Blunt did not take home the golden statuette, her team ruled the night with seven wins, including Best Picture. Meanwhile, Ryan’s Barbie won the box office war last year.

The cinematic journey of Hiroyuki Sanada and his contribution to the fusion of Western and Eastern storytelling have been nothing short of remarkable. Fresh off the heels of his presence in John Wick: Chapter 4, Sanada’s Shōgun success has been a cultural touchstone. But does this success guarantee his quick return to the producer’s chair?
Sanada is involved as a producer and cast member of the acclaimed FX limited series. With a career as dynamic as the Japanese actor’s, his keen sense of storytelling speaks volumes. Indeed, his dedication to cultural integrity and his case-by-case approach to production roles serve as a deliberate blueprint for his future endeavors in the film industry, as he enjoys shaping narratives.
Hiroyuki Sanada as Lord Yoshii Toranaga in Shōgun
But, despite his success with Shōgun, Sanada’s desire to create from scratch as a producer may not be realized in the near future.

Bill Kong is cautious, vastly experienced and has an impeccable reputation as a key gateway between Hollywood and China to maintain. He is someone far more likely to deadpan than gush.
So, to hear him getting into high gear with a pitch for his bucket list martial arts movie project “The Furious” immediately invites comparison with previous Kong-produced action pictures including Oscar-winner “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” “Jet Li’s Fearless” or the Zhang Yimou-directed “Hero.”
“I’m going to do an action movie that rocks the world. And to prove that Hong Kong still has something to give the film industry. I want to show that Asian people can still make an action movie that is better than the rest of the world,” Kong tells Variety.
Significantly, “The Furious” is a project made by Hong Kong, rather than made in Hong Kong. Kong’s Edko Films is financing and producing.

In a scene early in The Fall Guy, a nameless crewmember buckles Ryan Gosling’s seat belt as his character is about to attempt a cannon roll, a classic car stunt, on the set of a fictional science fiction movie called Metal Storm. Gosling plays Hollywood stuntman Colt Seavers, who is reluctantly returning to the film business after an injury, but in many ways the real star of the scene is the background actor buckling him in, Logan Holladay. Though his screen time lasts only a few moments, Holladay was the real-life stunt driver for Gosling — the one who actually steered a Jeep Grand Cherokee down a Sydney beach and rolled it eight and a half times on the sand, breaking the Guinness world record of seven rolls set by Adam Kirley, the driver of James Bond’s Aston Martin in 2006’s Casino Royale.

It’s been seven years since the release of Atomic Blonde, the action thriller starring Charlize Theron as top-level MI6 spy Lorraine Broughton. As the film was a box-office and critical success, it begs the question: where the hell is the sequel? Atomic Blonde screenwriter Kurt Johnstad isn’t sure what’s going on with a followup, but he recently told CinemaBlend that he always envisioned Lorraine’s story as a trilogy.
“To me, I always said that’s a trilogy,” Johnstad said. “You could tell three of those, and I hope they crack it. If they need some help, they know where to find me.“
Charlize Theron confirmed that a sequel was in the works in 2018, with her production company, Denver & Delilah Productions, heading up the project. Johnstad hasn’t heard anything from them, saying that it’s possible “they may have gone to another writer, they may have a draft.

Keanu Reeves’ John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum was one visual treat that climbed to the status of the top-grossing movie in the franchise in just 10 days of its release. While John Wick 4 provided an even greater movie experience, the potential of Chad Stahelski’s realistic filmmaking was first noticed in the third film. The effort that went into making one underwater fight scene proves how Stahelski’s film was anchored in reality.

Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was a huge hit upon release and earned over $432 million amidst the global pandemic.

Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel was the first step in Zack Snyder’s vision for the Dcu. The director brought it a unique and tonally dark film exploring Clark Kent’s evolution into becoming more human and his past catching up to haunt him. The dark and somber tone of the film left fans divided although Cavill’s impressive performance as Superman was praised.

The John Wick spin-off, Ballerina, starring Ana De Armas, has unloaded footage all over the audience at Liongate’s panel at CinemaCon. According to our own Chris Bumbray, who was in attendance, the spin-off takes place between Chapter 3 – Parabellum and Chapter 4. They also conveyed that the film was tracking so well that the studio gave director Len Wiseman and Wick series director Chad Stahelski more money in the budget to create additional massive action sequences.
The trailer that was shown showcased De Armas doing Mma and gunplay, much like Keanu Reeves in the Wick films. However, it is noted that the fight sequences in Ballerina are very different from the Wick movies. Here, they look “more feral and less polished.” The movie is also said to be “insanely violent.” Although it is known that Reeves has a cameo, the preview teases his appearance as a trailer stinger.

Lionsgate had a whole lot of interesting projects to promote at CinemaCon today. Alexandre Aja’s Never Let Go, The Crow remake, the Margot Robbie-produced Monopoly, Guy Ritchie’s In the Grey and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Highlander, Borderlands, a Blumhouse reimagining of The Blair Witch Project, the John Wick spin-off Ballerina, the Michael Jackson biopic Michael, they all got a moment in the spotlight in one way or another. And that’s far from the complete list. Attendees also got to see trailers and previews of multiple other films, and we’ve got a bit of a round-up compiled below.

Chad Stahelski's 2019 actioner "John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum" featured a character named Rooney, a ballerina who was studying to be an assassin. Recall that seemingly 65% of the world's population are trained assassins in the world of John Wick, so a ballerina wanting to become an assassin is a viable career move. Rooney was played by a professional dancer named Unity Phelan, who has served as a principal dancer in the New York Ballet since 2021. The idea of a ballerina assassin was tantalizing, but Rooney's story was not followed in "Parabellum" or in the epically long "John Wick: Chapter 4."
One might also recall that John Wick seemingly died in "Chapter 4," leaving the franchise overlords in a lurch when it came to further sequels. Their solution was "John Wick Presents Ballerina," a film all about a ballerina's journey from the stage to the firing range. "Ballerina" will be directed by Len Wiseman,...

Flamethrowers, judo chops, Anjelica Huston, a Keanu Reeves cameo and ballet dancing are just some of the things you’ll see when Lionsgate drops the first trailer for Ballerina. Exhibitors got to see it first Wednesday at CinemaCon.

Henry Cavill Says Sword Training for ‘Highlander’ Tops Earlier Work: “You Haven’t Seen Anything Yet”

The actor turned up on the Colosseum main stage inside Caesars Palace during Lionsgate’s presentation to talk up a series of projects he’s doing with the studio, including Chad Stahelski’s Highlander and two Guy Ritchie films: this Friday’s release The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and the upcoming In the Grey opposite Jake Gyllenhaal and Eiza Gonzalez.
Cavill walked out to join Lionsgate motion picture group chair Adam Fogelson for a brief Q&a that started with Fogelson mentioning the facial hair Cavill sports in Ungentlemanly Warfare. “Is there any facial hair that does not look good on you?” Fogelson asked to which Cavill replied, “We’ve tried a few.”

Charlize Theron proved to be a fine action star appearing in Mad Max: Fury Road, Atomic Blonde, and several other remarkable action-packed films. But doing action movies is not always easy, and Theron has endured the nightmarish effects of it on her body and mind.

Still, there is no stopping for the actor. She puts herself up to every challenge possible despite the inherent cons attached to it. On-set injuries are not new to the actor as she was almost paralyzed after a neck injury after filming a scene in the 2005 Karyn Kusama-directed sci-fi action flick, Æon Flux. But she sustained permanent damage to her body after working in a film by the John Wick director.

Brandon Lee’s The Crow is considered a cult classic today, but the film was plagued with massive problems starting with the tragic death of the lead star in the middle of filming. Lee’s unfortunate demise was caused by an accidental firing of a gun which had a routine dummy bullet that unfortunately ended up killing him.
Brandon Lee in The Crow
This horrific incident ultimately led to a domino effect of troubles which included finding a replacement for the lead actor to complete the film. This disaster on set prompted Hollywood director Chad Stahelski to take major precautions while handling firearms in his blockbuster film John Wick. The former stuntman also exposed the uncomfortable truth behind the use of guns in the industry.

While any form of death is tragic, the worst kinds are the ones that could have easily been avoided.

British actor Dev Patel is back to winning hearts through his onscreen performances with his most recent masterpiece, Monkey Man. No one, including Warner Bros, was prepared for how successful “The Matrix” would be when it hit theaters on March 31, 1999. Only the second film by the Wachowski siblings (their first being the low-budget indie “Bound”), it would go on the be the fourth highest grossing film of the year, and a cultural phenomenon that became part of our lexicon.
The movie’s success would also mark a number of shifts happening in the industry. The diverse approach to casting by the Wachowskis, and their casting directors Mali Finn and Shauna Wolifson, took in building their ensemble helped redefine who could be an American action star, as Hollywood was desperate to move away from its already stale reliance on brawny white males, whose bulging muscles justified their physical prowess. The Wachowskis’ philosophy-inspired script helped usher in an era of narrative gravity and complexity in how studios approached the world-building storytelling of studio IP.

Directed by Rupert Sanders and starring Bill Skarsgård, the reboot of the 1994 film, The Crow has become one of the hot topics of discussion. Based on James O’Barr’s comic book series of the same name, the film is the remake of the 1994 film, which featured Brandon Lee in the lead role. While the film was a box office hit and has since gained a cult following, the actor tragically lost his life during production due to a fatal incident involving a prop gun.

Criticism has been directed at the remake by original cast members and director Alex Proyas, who argue that it risks tarnishing Lee’s legacy. However, filmmaker Rupert Sanders has defended the project, asserting that it aims to pay tribute to Lee and expressing hope that the revival would do justice to his memory.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is regarded as one of the top-tier MCU projects released after Avengers: Endgame. Simu Liu and the entire cast delivered an excellent performance, and the action sequences were heavily praised. Bill Skarsgård has slowly but surely established himself as one of the most versatile actors of this generation. With a number of quirky and unconventional roles under his belt, Skarsgård keeps pushing the envelope of his skills with each new character he plays on the screen.
The actor has been a part of several notable franchises in his career. Therefore, it was not surprising when John Wick came calling for him. He is not new to playing antagonists, in fact, he excels at playing morally dubious characters.
He did it again as Marquis Vincent de Gramont in the fourth installment of this Keanu Reeves-led series. It was a knock-out performance, but one aspect of his role faced a lot of flak from the public, so much so that it could have taken attention away from the film itself.

It's been a long time coming, but "The Fall Guy" is shaping up to be a spectacular time at the movies. In development since at least 2010, the adaptation of the 1980s TV series is finally set to debut in theaters May 3, 2024, and is easily one of the most anticipated films of the year. Directed by David Leitch -- who, along with his "John Wick" directing partner Chad Stahelski, is basically responsible for defining the style of modern action filmmaking -- the movie stars Ryan Gosling as seasoned stunt performer Colt Seavers, who reluctantly becomes a real-life action hero when he's asked to track down a missing movie star. But while "The Fall Guy" is unapologetically action-packed, it's also looking to make you chuckle along the way.
If his stellar work in "The Nice Guys," his Papyrus font "SNL" sketch, or his performance of "I'm Just Ken" at the 2024 Oscars wasn't enough to convince you,...

Hollywood stunt people are a breed apart. They look at a skyscraper, and wonder what floor from which they could plummet onto an airbag. They encounter a ravine, and instantly want to hop astride a motorcycle and jump it. They see a fellow stunt performer get blasted with fire extinguishers after being set ablaze, and think to themselves, "I could've stayed on fire longer than that." They're wild folk, and they can make the kind of movie magic you'll savor for a lifetime.
For movie lovers, stunt people like Dar Robinson, Vic Armstrong, and Evelyn Finley are as legendary as the stars they doubled. Among casual moviegoers, however, they aren't nearly as appreciated as they should be. So when films like Richard Rush's "The Stunt Man," Hal Needham's "Hooper," or David Leitch's forthcoming "The Fall Guy" (based on the classic 1980s TV series starring Lee Majors) crash into theaters,...

Over the last ten years, former stuntman David Leitch has directed such films as Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, Hobbs & Shaw, Bullet Train, and the upcoming The Fall Guy. While he keeps busy directing action films, he also produces them, with two Leitch productions being Nobody and Violent Night, both of which were released by Universal Pictures. Talking to Collider, Leitch and fellow producer Kelly McCormick confirmed that Universal is really invested in building Nobody and Violent Night franchises – so Nobody 2 and Violent Night 2 are both heading toward production!
Directed by Ilya Naishuller from a screenplay by Derek Kolstad, Nobody starred Bob Odenkirk as as Hutch Mansell, an unassuming family man who cowers and folds during a home invasion. His post-traumatic shame disorder reignites a long-cooled fire within, and he summons a secret lethal skill set for a revenge mission, only to see it backfire spectacularly and put his family in greater jeopardy.

Steven Lightfoot Developing ‘Scot Harvath’ Books For Sony Pictures Television Under New Overall Deal
Exclusive: Steven Lightfoot has been tapped to develop a series adaptation of the Scot Harvath books from New York Times bestseller Brad Thor, under a relatively fresh overall deal with Sony Pictures Television that has previously gone unreported, Deadline has learned.
We’re told that the deal for scripted drama development across cable and streaming came together last year, ahead of the WGA strike. As previously reported, Lightfoot is also currently in business with the studio as co-showrunner alongside Oren Uziel of Sony Pictures Television’s untitled Spider-Man Noir series, based on the Marvel comic, for MGM+ and Prime Video.
In addition to scripting the as-yet-untitled Scot Harvath series, Lightfoot is exec producing alongside Thor; the John Wick franchise’s Chad Stahelski and his colleagues Alex Young and Jason Spitz at 87Eleven Entertainment; Shaun Redick & Yvette Yates Redick of Impossible Dream Entertainment; Scott Cross & Sean Cross of Cross Pictures,...

While it’s hard to top Tom Cruise in the stunt department, his Interview with the Vampire costar isn’t too far behind in terms of respect in the stunt community. Even though most don’t associate Oscar-winner Brad Pitt with death-defying stunts, the actor bears huge respect for stunt performers and even helped his Flight Club stunt double to rise the ranks.
Before becoming a prominent action filmmaker, David Leitch, notable for his work on The Fall Guy, Deadpool 2, and Hobbs & Shaw, worked as a double for Pitt during the ’90s. And reflecting on the change of attitude of Hollywood stars for the stunt community over the years, the director expressed his gratitude to the Bullet Train Star.

"Monkey Man" burns with the passion and nerve of a filmmaker who thinks he's not going to direct another film ever again. Dev Patel, always a dynamic actor, doesn't break out the fireworks for his directorial debut as much as he unleashes an entire explosive arsenal. There's more going on -- visually, emotionally, thematically -- in single moments of this ultra-violent action movie than you find in most films of the genre. To call it ambitious would be an understatement. Here's a movie that wants to say every single thing Patel wants to communicate as a filmmaker, and it's all got to fit into a two-hour running time. Forget oxygen. Forget subtlety. No one's got time for that when this is your first (and maybe last) time at bat.
Can one blame Patel for trying to do literally everything he possibly can with his debut feature behind the camera? Not...

During the 96th Academy Awards, we were treated to a brief video honoring the work of stunt performers and the integral part they play in the film industry. Then, things quickly moved on.
Introduced by "The Fall Guy" stars Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, the video was full of effusive praise for stunt performers and how fundamental they've been to the success of the very industry the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences honors with their yearly ceremony. While some may have been expecting the clip to lead to an official stunt category announcement, it, er, didn't.
Well-made though this visual tribute was, the whole thing felt a little rich considering the Academy is still refusing to give stunt performers their own award category. Worse still, it comes in the wake of news that we'll soon be seeing a new casting category, set to be introduced at the 2026 ceremony...

As John Wick spin-off Ballerina goes back before the cameras, the cast expands for the movie, which is now set for release in 2025.

Originally set for release this summer, and with a fan trailer already doing the rounds, Ballerina has now been put back to mid-2025. That’s to build in time for what sounds like fairly sizeable reshoot work.
Len Wiseman has directed the movie, and John Wick’s Chad Stahelski is now reportedly helping with fresh action sequences for the film. We also get news too that the reshoots are adding at least two new roles as well.

John Wick franchise director Chad Stahelski has signed a first look production deal with Lionsgate.
Stahelski and his 87Eleven Entertainment banner will bring the Hollywood studio original action movies to collaborate on, with an eye to establishing future movie franchises. The production agreement is separate from a recently announced deal with Lionsgate that gives Stahelski oversight of two franchises: Highlander and John Wick, the latter of which has spanned four films directed by Stahelski and starring Keanu Reeves.
Those films, and Stahelksi’s stunt-focused 87Eleven Entertainment, have been praised for reinventing the action genre. In light of that success, the multi-year first-look production deal, unveiled by Adam Fogelson, chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, extends and expands the pact between the studio and the John Wick director.

It wasn’t the stylish action sequences in The Matrix that attracted Keanu Reeves. He revealed in 1999 that he was struck by the Wachowski siblings’ storytelling in the film. Reeves added that Hollywood films began lacking intellectually challenging stories back then, which many of them compensated with big-name actors and heavy VFX sequences. Reeves’ 25-year-old statement makes more sense today as people are tired of seeing the same stories from franchises like Marvel and DC.

Just a few weeks after one of the stars of the John Wick franchise, Ian McShane, ripped Lionsgate’s TV spin-off The Continental live on TV, the studio seems like it’s going full steam ahead on a John Wick TV show. According to Deadline, Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns said as much during a Q&a at the Morgan Stanley media conference. “I think we’ll take one of our great action franchises starring Keanu Reeves, I think it’ll be a television series,” said Burns, who also revealed that the studio is planning a Twilight animated series too.

John Wick has been one of the most iconic action franchises in all of Hollywood. Keanu Reeves’s portrayal of the titular character was incredible, to say the least. Not only were the fight sequences captivating, but the world that the story built and the dynamics were some of the most interesting in the genre.
