Ben Browder's film Bad Kids of Crestview Academy starts with a bang, with a Swat-team storming a school. The policemen find mutilated bodies, a crashed Porsche, and a schoolgirl who literally opens fire on them (pun intended: she uses a flamethrower). Flashback to 8 hours earlier, when said schoolgirl arrived at Crestview Academy for a day of detention, together with four spoilt-rotten-rich kids. So what the hell happened in those eight hours? That mystery, in short, is the motor which keeps the film moving. And it's unfortunate that it runs out of gas a little too fast, because up to the third act there is actually a lot of fun to be had. Bad Kids of Crestview Academy is the sequel to Matthew Spradlin's 2012...

You all remember 2012’s comic adaptation of Bad Kids Go To Hell, right? Probably not. Most seem to have missed Matthew Spradlin’s under-the-radar private school thriller, but – nevertheless – Ben Browder makes his directorial debut with the film’s follow-up sequel, Bad Kids Of Crestview Academy. Once again, a handful of rebellious, not-so-angelic students find themselves serving a deadly detention sentence where anything goes. Sex, drugs and adorable kitten videos – these kids are anarchists to the core, soaked in spoiled-teens-so-rotten-you-want-them-dead appeal. Welcome back to creator Barry Wernick’s educational house of horrors, just don’t mind the stripped-down nature of this barebones continuation.
Sammi Hanratty stars as Siouxsie Hess, a Crestview student seeking vengeance after the death of her sister Alyson (Ashlyn McEvers). Not too long ago, the academy held a party where Siouxsie’s sister supposedly committed suicide. A handful of students corroborated the same story, all of whom...

Originally conceived some eight years ago by Matthew Spradlin, Bad Kids Go To Hell (the movie’s original title) originally debuted as a four issue comic mini-series from Antarctic Press in 2009. Fast forward to 2014 and the film, now re-titled Haunting of Crestview High silently hits the UK market courtesy of 101 Films, without all the hype that surrounded the 2012 Us release – which may not actually be a bad thing.
Now don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the film but I don’t think it ever lives up to the hype that surrounded its original Us release – which is maybe why the films UK debut took a couple of years – but as a fan of the John Hughes canon of films...

What new horrors await us on DVD this month? Well, lots of bloodsuckers, for starters...
As the old Simpsons quote goes, there are only three real monsters, kid: Dracula, Blacula and Son of Kong. Sadly, giant gorilla junior doesn’t make an appearance this month though we’ve at least got the first two categories covered.
Leading the way with aplomb, our friend Blacula finally graces this young blog with not one but two classics released on Blu-ray and DVD as a complete collection. In case you’re not familiar with this wonderful splicing of seventies Blaxploitation and gothic horror (shame on you if so), the tale of undead African prince Mamuwalde and his ongoing struggle with both his own bloodlust and pesky locals trying to stake him through the heart is both surprisingly well-made and massively enjoyable. Oh, and its success also led to the subsequent release of Blackenstein,...

Director: Matthew Spradlin. Writers: Matthew Spradlin and Barry Wernick. Cast: Judd Nelson, Ben Browder, Amanda Alch, Marc Donato, Augie Duke, Roger Edwards, Ali Faulkner, Cameron Deane Stewart, Jeffrey Schmidt and Chanel Ryan. Bad Kids Go to Hell has undergone a few transformations. Originally, this piece was a script and then a graphic novel. Over the course of six years, Bad Kids Go to Hell made its way into a cinematic form. And, Matthew Spradlin's first movie as director introduces a lot of conflict, a few comedic moments and perhaps, too much conniving. This title pays homage to a few classics, mostly The Breakfast Club and Carrie. Sadly, Bad Kids Go to Hell is only occasionally entertaining. The film begins as an homage to 1985's The Breakfast Club. Six students are locked into the school's library to serve a Saturday detention. The jock, the nerd, the goth, the princess and...

Today, December 7th, the teen horror comedy Bad Kids Go to Hell hits limited theaters nationwide, and to mark the occasion, we recently caught up with one of the film's co-stars, Judd Nelson.
For the uninitiated, Bad Kids Go to Hell follows six private school students from Crestview Academy, home to the spoiled offspring of society’s elite, who find themselves in detention on a frightfully dark and stormy Saturday afternoon. During their time stuck in detention, each of the six kids ends up dead due to a horrible "accident" until only one unfortunately misguided soul remains standing.
In the film Nelson portrays stodgy Headmaster Nash, a complete 180 from another detention-themed project he's been associated with for almost 30 years now: The Breakfast Club. During our recent interview with Nelson, we spoke to him about his involvement with Bad Kids Go to Hell and heard more about his experiences working alongside first-time filmmaker Matthew Spradlin.

I kicked the comic book habit a while ago, so I was not acquainted with a graphic novel by Matthew Spradlin and Anthony Vargas called Bad Kids Go to Hell. But now that it's been made into a movie, which opens today, I've heard of it. In fact, I've even located the trailer and embedded it below for you, dear reader. You know, just in case you're as lame as I am and haven't heard of it either.
The big screen adaptation was directed by Spradlin and written by Spradlin and Barry Wernick. Based on the trailer, it looks like a humorous cross between Poltergeist and The Breakfast Club. In fact, Judd Nelson even has a role, a bit of stunt casting that helps the whole John Hughes tie-in.
Now I have no idea how closely the film follows the comic, but let's play a game. We'll look at the...

Here's a fun film clip from the horror comedy Bad Kids Go To Hell. If John Hughes' Breakfast Club was a horror film, it'd look something like this. Breakfast Club star Judd Nelson even plays the head schoolmaster! The film was directed by Matthew Spradlin, based off of his own graphic novel that follows six private school students locked away in Saturday detention with a killer on the loose. The clip shows us how awkwardly fun this movie will be.
Synopsis:
Six private school high school kids find themselves stuck in detention on a frightfully dark and stormy Saturday afternoon. During their 8 hour incarceration, each of the six kids falls victim to a horrible “accident” until only one of them remains.

"When he returned, the room was filled with blood." What if The Breakfast Club was a horror movie, almost like Scream? That's kind of the concept of what we have here. It even stars one of the original stars of The Breakfast Club - Judd Nelson, who played John Bender. In Bad Kids Go to Hell, Nelson plays the Headmaster of Crestview Academy, and the film takes place during another detention session. But this time, the six students locked in detention slowly begin to die from "accidents", which sets up this horror tale of suspense and murder. It doesn't look half bad, but the more important question is - does it look half good? Watch the first trailer for Matthew Spradlin's Bad Kids Go to Hell, from Dread Central (via SlashFilm): On a frightfully dark and stormy Saturday afternoon, six private school students from Crestview Academy begin to...

Honestly, I don’t know if I’m dense or what, but for the life of me I still have no clear idea what director Matthew Spradlin’s “Bad Kids go to Hell” movie is all about. (I was similarly stump last year when I posted the teaser trailer.) I mean, the synopsis (below) sorta answers some of it, but shouldn’t the trailer also provide a guideline to the film’s, you know, intentions? So what happens, they kill each other? Ghosts kill them? Monsters? Ben Browder’s janitor character? I haven’t a clue. That’s good, right? The movie is totally mysterious. Then again, it doesn’t actually convince me if I want to spend two hours watching it either, so you know, that’s probably not so good. But hey, maybe it’s just me. Your mileage may vary. Although I like the fact that none...

You've seen this setup before: a diverse group of high school students end up in detention with a hard ass head master watching over them. But this is where Matthew Spradlin's debut feature Bad Kids Go To Hell takes a wild departure from its spiritual ancestor The Breakfast Club. Starring Cameron Deane Stewart, Augie Duke, Amanda Alch, Ali Faulkner, Marc Donato, Roger Edwards, Ben Browder, and of course, Judd Nelson, Spradlin's film ventures into horror-comedy territory when the students fall victim to horrible accident after horrible accident until only one remains. I think “Bad Kids go to Hell”, based on the comic book of the same name, is supposed to be a horror movie, but, um, I’m not sure, because nothing too horrific actually happens in this two-minute teaser trailer for the film. It certainly gets the comedy vibe down, though. Or at least, some attempts at comedy are more obvious than anything horror-ish. I’ll admit it, though, the only reason I’m the least bit interested in Matthew Spradlin’s film is because it co-stars “Farscape’s” Ben Browder as Max, the school janitor. Though it looks like the janitor might not be “just” a janitor. But if that’s all he ends up being, I’m going to be mighty peeved. And displeased. But mostly just peeved. The Breakfast Club meets The Grudge in this sexy, dark comedy-thriller! Six prep school kids from Crestview Academy, home to...

Loyal sci-fi fans tend to follow their favorite actors to other projects (just ask Nathan Fillion or his legion of supporters), so the team behind Matthew Spradlin.s Bad Kids Go To Hell might have just made a very beneficial casting decision. According to a report on BigFanBoy, the adaptation of Spradlin and Barry Wernick.s cult graphic novel currently filming in Texas has added Farscape and Stargate Sg-1 star Ben Browder to an ensemble that already includes .80s holdover Judd Nelson. The casting of Breakfast Club star Nelson is a nod to the story.s roots, as Bad Kids follows a gaggle of snobby high schoolers who are getting picked off while attending detention one afternoon. Browder would play the janitor, who ends up having an important role in the proceedings (though we.ll avoid spoiling the fun for you). But will it amount to more tickets being sold?...
