New Girl, Season 2, Episode 25: “Elaine’s Big Day”
Written by Brett Baer & Dave Finkel
Directed by Christian Magalhᾶes & Bob Snow
Airs on Tuesdays at 9pm on Fox
It’s been a big year already for TV comedy wedding, Parks and Recreation, Happy Endings, The Office, How I Met Your Mother (kind of), and even Community with its marriage/graduation mashup. And last night it was time for New Girl to take a stab at nuptials with the doomed-from-the-start ceremony between Cece and Shivrang.
However, what everyone really wants to see is the conflict between Nick and Jess. Since Jess’ father Bob (Rob Reiner) has arrived, things have been pretty tough for our quirky and adorable couple. With Cece’s wedding happening and with it being the finale, Nick has one final chance to prove he can be a decent human being and not cause any trouble (at least for...

With the meta horror-comedy The Cabin In The Woods spirited character actor Fran Kranz stepped up from supporting player to male lead. Critics cheered his ascension as did fans who've followed him since Joss Whedon's short-lived sci-fi series Dollhouse. And with Cabin making a respectable showing at the box office, Kranz's prospects as a leading man are on the rise. Next up, he'll take to the big screen as the love-struck Claudio in Whedon's modern adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing, which will premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival in September, and following that this quirky and charismatic star will lead a offbeat original thriller called Murder of a Cat. Coming Soon reports Kranz has signed on to play the comedy-noir's protagonist, a part to which Jay Baruchel (Goon) was previously attached. Penned by Christian Magalhars and Robert Snow, Murder of a Cat follows Kranz's character on...

Last week, we told you that the gruesome sequel to Tom Six's "Human Centipede" – about a surgeon who stitches together a gory human chain for his own amusement – was waiting to receive approval by UK censors before a release date was announced. History has taught us that the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) doesn't look too kindly on films with extreme, graphic violence and sexuality, so it came as no surprise, really, when news surfaced that "The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence)" has been officially banned in the UK. This means that the board has refused to give the film a classification, making it illegal to distribute.
Six has a few weeks to appeal the ban, but BBFC director David Cooke has stated that cutting the film still wouldn't make it acceptable for viewing. What prompted the British censors to inflict such an extreme ruling?...

King Kong may have plunged off the Empire State Building - in each of the film adaptations so far - but there's still life in the old beast yet.
Twentieth Century Fox's cartoon division is aiming to create a "modern-day twist" on the classic tale, according to Deadline.
Fox Animation has hired Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow to write a new animated feature told from the ape's viewpoint.
It's not the only reimagining in the pipeline. Back in July 2009, Spirit Pictures picked up rights to the Dark Horse book Kong: King of Skull Island.
Created by illustrator Joe DeVito and fantasy writer Brad Strickland, the novel explained that following Kong's death, both the ape's body and showman Carl Denham (who brought the beast to America) vanished before any investigation could be launched.
A quarter of a century later, in 1957, Denham's son Vincent stumbles upon the Skull Island map, contacts Jack...

What is Hollywood’s fascintion with monkeys? Seriously? It started with the 1933 original movie, followed by a 1966 TV series, the 1976 “King Kong” and the latest version of “King Kong” in 2005 that was directed by Peter Jackson. On top of that, there’s all those “Planet of the Apes” movies including the August release of “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” although that one does look good so I’m not hating on monkeys at all. They’re cute little creatures I just don’t get the Hollywood love affair. It’s not like we see a bunch of movies about giraffes or tigers for that matter. But anyway, Deadline says that an animated version of “King Kong” will be released by Fox Animation with Christian Magalhaes & Bob Snow taking on the writing duties. The film will be from the vantage point of Kong which should be interesting I guess...

Hollywood's desire to reboot franchises continues with three movie properties about to get new incarnations.
Fox Animation have hired Christian Magalhaes & Bob Snow ("Murder of a Cat") to write an animated modern day twist on "King Kong" and will tell the story from the vantage point of the ape says Deadline.
Shawn Levy's 21 Laps and Ted Field's Radar Pictures will produce along with Mike Weber.
Meanwhile with MGM now freed from its massive debt, their previously talked about plans to restart the "Poltergeist" franchise have taken the next step with playwright turned screenwriter David Lindsay-Abaire ("Rabbit Hole") offered the job of penning the script reports Vulture.
MGM reportedly has no creative parameters, allowing Lindsay-Abaire to shape the film in whatever fashion he chooses should he want the job.
Finally, Moviehole reports that Universal Pictures proposed sequel to Joe Johnston’s disastrous 2009 "The Wolfman" has now been reworked to be an original film.

Because we needed more proof that big studios are now being run by Xerox machines, we are getting yet another remake of "King Kong." What's that you say? They already did that just a few years ago? Apparently there's more material to mine from a giant mute gorilla than that 3-hour epic could muster.

Greeting, you festering maggots. Here's some news to prevent you from realizing what pathetic, pitiful cretins you really are.
Apparently, in the wake of the coming (shut up, it makes sense) Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes Rotpota, apes are in. And as such, the studio that loves to destroy the things we love has planned to move on our newfound monkey love (that came out weird, didn't it. And yes, I know apes aren't monkeys. Shut up). Anyway, Fox has decided to "update" King Kong, and has drafted Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow to pen "a modern day twist" on the big lug. Not much else in the way of details is available, except that it'll be animated. Yes, I said animated. Anyone wanna place bets as to whether or not it'll be in 3D? Drink up, kids. Until they make a Gorilla Grodd movie, I ain't fucking interested.

20th Century Fox is seemingly interested in simian-themed films by now. While prepping to release "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" debut in U.S. theaters on August 5, the studio is said proposing an animated "King Kong" film.
Deadline first broke the news, reporting that Fox takes on 1933's "King Kong" and has hired Magalhaes and Bob Snow to pen "a modern day twist" for the new "King Kong (2013)" film. The forthcoming animation flick will have a story told from the ape's point of view, and will be based on a story by Mike Weber. In the meantime, Shawn Levy and Ted Field will serve as the producers.
"King Kong" has been remade or reimaginated for several times, including a 1976 film with a 1986 sequel "King Kong Lives". Director of "The Lord of the Rings" film series, Peter Jackson, also made a reimagination of the film in 2005's "King Kong", starring Naomi Watts,...

Most people know "King Kong" from the 1933 classic and Peter Jackson's 2005 film, which went on to gross $550 million in worldwide ticket sales. But the character has also appeared in "Son of Kong," "Kong Lives," King Kong vs Godzilla," and "King Kong Escapes," in addition to two animated projects "The King Kong Show" and "Kong: The Animated Series."...

Given that even a filmmaker as accomplished as Peter Jackson appeared to stumble slightly when tackling King Kong, directors and studios would be forgiven from staying away from the great ape. But that isn’t scaring 20th Century Fox Animation, which is planning a new, animated take on Skull Island’s most famous resident. The studio has hired writers Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow to kick off work on the ‘toon’s script, which will not only update the story to the modern day, but tell the tale from Kong’s point of view. No, really: if this thing makes it to screens, we’ll be treated to the big K explaining how he feels about his treatment and, assuming they keep to the big finish, still taking a dive from the top of the Empire State Building. Could be a bit of a downer for the kids. No pun intended,...

From the looks of things, Fox must really think monkeys are the secret to success. Not only do they have Rise of the Planet of the Apes coming out later this summer, but now they are giving the greenlight to a new version of King Kong - this time in animated form. Of course, there have been a few different versions of the classic film made over the years using various methods of portraying the giant ape, with the most recent example being Peter Jackson's retelling back in 2005. This film will offer a new take on the material, however, as it will be told from Kong's perspective and will also be set in modern day. Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow, who recently had a script featured on the Black List called Murder of a Cat, will handle the story duties. There's no other information provided on the story or...

The original 1933 King Kong has been remade with almost every different film technology imaginable. The 1976 Jeff Bridges film used mechanical creature effects intercut with a man in a suit. In 2005, Peter Jackson created the gorilla with motion capture computer graphics. Now, the character goes back to the drawing board in more ways than one. Fox Animation has hired Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow to write "a modern day twist" on the King Kong story that will be fully animated and told from the gorilla's point of view. Deadline broke [1] the news of this proposed film, which is based on a story by Mike Weber and produced by Shawn Levy's 21 Laps and Ted Field's Radar Pictures. There's no information beyond that but saying it'll be animated and from Kong's point of view seems to tease that this will be a less violent, more family-friendly version, maybe with a talking Kong.

The obsession with our hairy ancestors seems to know no end. With huge hits like “Curious George,” “Dunston Checks In,” “Mighty Joe Young,” and Tim Burton’s magnum opus rehashing of “Planet of the Apes,” it makes perfect sense that the studios keep pumping out primate pictures.
With “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” set to release in August, 20th Century Fox is now turning its attention to the animation department, where Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow are charged with the task of telling the story of King Kong through the perspective of, well, Kong himself. I’m looking forward to getting an in depth view into the psychological state of the hopelessly romantic gorilla, who wanted nothing more than to provide a good view for the woman he loved.

Fox is jumping feet first into the monkey business. This summer they have the awkwardly named Rise of the Planet of the Apes headed for theaters and now they.ve started work on a new simian themed film project. Or maybe I should say an old one, since what they.re doing is repurposing King Kong, yet again. The twist this time is that Kong will be animated. Deadline says Fox Animation has hired Christian Magalhaes & Bob Snow to write the script, based on a story invented by Mike Weber, which will be set in the modern day and tell the classic giant monkey run-amok in the big city tale entirely from the perspective of King Kong. Smells like talking monkey time, to me. No official word yet on whether the monkey will talk, but Magalhaes & Snow are reportedly actually pretty good screenwriters, so there's hope here. The story of King Kong is one of the most famous in cinematic history, with the 1933 original inspiring multiple sequels and remakes, the most famous of which likely being Peter Jackson‘s 2005 take on the material. The story isn’t going away anytime soon, as Deadline is reporting that Fox Animation plans to take it and give the tale a “modern day twist.”
Being written by Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow, the animated movie will tell things from the perspective of the ape. That’s never really been done with the character, unless you count the more “romantic” scenes from Jackson‘s film as falling into that category. Whether or not it’ll have any humans in it hasn’t been made clear, but I find it difficult to imagine this story without the explorers of Skull Island present. It’s being produced by Shawn Levy‘s production company 21 Laps,...

Fox Animation is developing a new take on the King Kong story, according to Deadline. This makes sense, since 20th Century Fox is already dealing with some awesome vfx for Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The script will be written by Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow. The story will be a modern day twist on the legendary primate. The project is being produced by Shawn Levy's 21 Laps along with Ted Field's Radar Pictures.
The film will be animated, and will tell the story from the vantage point of the ape. This is a nice change from the original story in my mind. I would have hated being enslaved and forced to perform and not being able to tell my captors no. No wonder he climbs up the Empire State building. This sounds like a cool concept, what are your thoughts?...

Exclusive: Rise of the Planet of the Apes isn't the only case where a film division at 20th Century Fox is monkeying around with a primate picture. Fox Animation has set the team of Christian Magalhaes & Bob Snow to write a modern day twist on the King Kong story. It will be animated, and will tell the story from the vantage point of the ape. It's an interesting take on the material, because let's face it, Kong got a bum deal and had no way to verbally complain about it. Shawn Levy's 21 Laps will produce with Ted Field's Radar Pictures. Magalhaes & Snow's recent spec script Murder of a Cat made the Black List and is in the process of being set up. Gersh reps the scribes.

The classic tale -- last brought to the silver screen by director Peter Jackson and Universal Pictures in 2005 -- is looking to be retold again, but this time in a different fashion and perspective. King Kong, last seen in the 2005 rendition from Peter Jackson, will get a revamp of sorts with a new animated film. The story will be told from Kong's point of view himself. Fox Animation (Ice Age, Rio) has tapped relative unknowns Christian Magalhaes & Bob Snow for the screenplay based off an already written story from Mike Weber. The iconic character started on film with the 1933 classic and had two remakes with a 1975 version starring Jeff Bridges and the Jackson version. Along with those, some lower budgeted sequels and knockoffs plus a showdown with Godzilla in 1963 have kept the...

Just in case you wanted a new King Kong film, Fox Animation has ordered up a modern take on the giant ape's life. Except this time the events will be told from his perspective. Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow were tapped to pen the script. Deadline hasn't made it clear if this is direct-to-dvd tripe or something that Fox intends to bring to the screen. We shall see...

With the publication of the 2010 Black List another compilation of the year's best unproduced screenplays has arrived. This is the fifth year that The Black List has been in existence, and its purpose is to shine a spotlight on what 290 film executives think are some of the best creative executions of ideas worthy for the big screen.
To be nominated and included on The Black List a screenplay can't have been released in 2010. As well, the minimum number of votes that a screenplay needed to have to warrant inclusion on the list is five. Several of the projects listed on Tbl are in development and will be released in the next twelve months. Others might have heat but take years to reach theaters, and there are also many that will never be greenlighted.

Every year, film executive Franklin Leonard releases his list, called The Black List, of most-liked unproduced screenplays in Hollywood. This year's list was compiled from the suggestions of 290 film executives, each of whom picked up to ten of their favorite scripts. Since the list started in 2004, many screenplays ended up being turned into films. In 2005, two of the top three scripts were "Lars and the Real Girl" which was nominated for Best Original Screenplay Oscar, and "Juno" which actually won the Oscar. See The 2010 Black List below, broken up by how many votes each screenplay received. Keep in mind, some of the projects are already in the works. 49 Votes: * College Republicans (by Wes Jones): Based on true events. Aspiring politician Karl Rove runs a dirty campaign for national College Republican Chairman under the guidance of Lee Atwater, his campaign manager. 47 Votes: * Jackie (by Noah Oppenheim): Jackie Kennedy fights...

The Black List started in 2005 when Franklin Leonard was working for Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way production company. Leonard was getting drowned in sub-par spec scripts, so he sent an e-mail out to his industry contacts looking for the best unproduced scripts out there. The 2005 Black List and the 2006 Black List were undeniably important in getting a fresh batch of writers on the Hollywood scene. Since then, too many people know about the party and the studio system has learned that people are paying attention. That means that increasingly, scripts have been lobbied into the Black List. [Note: I have no actual evidence I would be able to share, disclose or show you that proves this, so file that assertion under: "Things Dave thinks and gets to write because he's squatted on that soapbox long enough to get squatter's rights."]This year: the majority of the Black List Top Ten has already been sold or optioned. I'm not sure how helpful it is to make a list of good In Production scripts. Certainly less helpful to writer's churning out material that keeps getting passed over (or people who have Not starred in Prison Break...

Back in 2004, a list was compiled of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood of that year. This came to be known as The Black List. It was all started by a young executive at Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way, who polled 90+ peers to send him their 10 favorite, new, unproduced screenplays to read over the holidays. It has since become a tradition at the end of every year, in December, to release this list, which is voted on by a group of individuals in the entertainment industry from producer assistants, talent agency individuals, and many people involved with film development all the way up to VP's.
The 2010 Black List is here, and thanks to Deadline we have the list of best unproduced screenplays. Most of the scripts we've heard of, many of them are in production, some have already wrapped filming, they just wont be released until next year.

Every year, studio executive Franklin Leonard compiles the “Black List,” a collection of the best unproduced screenplays as voted on by 300 execs and high-level assistants. The 2010 list is the sixth of its kind to bring additional awareness to Hollywood’s hottest scripts.
Topping the list this year is Wes Jones’ College Republicans, a Social Network-esque story (read my script review here) about the underhanded election of Karl Rove to a National College Republican seat, managed by strategy wunderkind Lee Atwater. Shia Labeouf is attached to play Atwater and Paul Dano as Rove. Previous Black List leaders include 2008’s The Beaver, which became a long-delayed film directed by Jodie Foster and starring Mel Gibson, and 2009’s The Muppet Man, which remains on the shelf.
Top 10 of 2010 (via the La Times). The Black List is available for download on the official website. Update: the rest added below:

The Black List has been released. The annual list is compiled with a poll of 300 (up from last year's 250) development executives and high-level assistants, and contains a ranking of the hot screenplays making the rounds in Hollywoodland, which were written in, or are somehow uniquely associated with, 2010 and will not be released in theaters during this calendar year. Basically, the black list contains the hottest projects in Hollywood that you haven't heard of yet. Note: The headline is a slightly inaccurate, because a lot of these screenplays have already been acquired (six of the top ten listed), a bunch are in production now, and some have even finished production. One of this year's top ten screenplays, J.C. Chandor's Margin Call, about the last 24 hours at now-defunct investment bank Lehman Brothers is already in the can and set to premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival with Chandor at the helm...

Frank Leonard is the most popular man in Hollywood today. This fine December day marks the release of the 6th annual Black List, a ranked collection of the top un-produced screenplays in the town, compiled by Leonard. Last year the top script was The Muppet Man from Christopher Weekes about “the life and times of the late Jim Henson.” Coming in second was Aaron Sorkin‘s The Social Network script, which is a current frontrunner to sweep the Oscars. The year before was The Beaver, now starring Mel Gibson and set for a release in 2011.

As for the rest of the list, I’ll be seeing Margin Call (pictured above) at Sundance 2011 and Safe House goes into production next year. We also reported on Oldboy director Park Chan-wook‘s English language debut with Carey Mulligan attached,...
