Helen Slayton-Hughes, a prolific actor with television roles spanning several decades, has died at the age of 92. The news was first officially reported via her Facebook page, where her family revealed that the actor had died on Wednesday. Slayton-Hughes had roles in more than 200 films and television shows, with short stints on "Nash Bridges," "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers," "Arrested Development," and more, but she was perhaps best known for her breakout role on "Parks and Recreation," where she played the feisty, hilariously horny court stenographer Ethel Beavers. Ethel was a fun character, a pretty basic spin on the foul-mouthed old lady trope, but Slayton-Hughes used her comedy chops to make the character something more. She imbued Ethel with a permanent punk-rock sass that's impossible to fake. Ethel ruled so much that April (Aubrey Plaza) and Andy (Chris Pratt) adopted her as their grandma, and that's all because of the perfect performance of Slayton-Hughes.

"This is our house - we are not about to die here!" Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a Halloween horror comedy called The Curse of Bridge Hollow, from director Jeff Wadlow. It looks like Netflix has made their own same concept, different characters version of the story also in Spirit Halloween: The Movie. A father and his teenage daughter are forced to team up and save their town after an ancient and mischievous spirit causes Halloween decorations to come to life and wreak havoc. The film stars Marlon Wayans and Priah Ferguson as the father and daughter, along with a fun comedy cast including Kelly Rowland, Rob Riggle, John Michael Higgins, Nia Vardalos, Lauren Lapkus, Holly J. Barrett, Myles Vincent Perez, Abi Monterey, and Helen Slayton-Hughes. Well, thankfully this doesn't look as bad as the usual Wayans comedies, but it still seems like dumb fun anyway. ›››

"Parks and Recreation" is many things: an incredibly optimistic show about the good that can come from government work, a love letter to small towns, and laugh-out-loud comedy among them. Much like "The Simpsons," however, "Parks and Recreation" is also a show with a phenomenal ensemble of characters you could easily picture having their own spinoff series where we see the daily lives of background characters.
From Joan Callamezzo (Mo Collins) and Perd Hapley (Jay Jackson) to Bobby Newport (Paul Rudd) and Ethel Beavers (Helen Slayton-Hughes), the show gave us countless memorable characters. But perhaps none remain as popular and funny as Ben Schwartz's lovable idiot, Jean-Ralphio...

After premiering Thursday night (Jan. 23) on Adult Swim, the fourth "Greatest Event in TV History" has made it's way online and, as promised, it's pretty great.
Adam Scott and Paul Rudd recreated the intro to "Bosom Buddies," and had the help of the show's original stars, Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari, along the way. The intro itself also features Gillian Jacobs, Mo Collins, Aisha Muharrar, Helen Slayton-Hughes and Aidy Bryant.
This was touted as the final "Greatest Event in TV History," but it shouldn't take too long to figure out whether or not that's true. With so many old shows out there, these could go on forever.

James Franco might need the help of "Veronica Mars," according to a report on Zap2It.
According to the website, Franco is scripted to appear in the "Veronica Mars" movie as himself. He's the victim of a hidden camera scam where the perpetrator hides cameras in the homes of famous people and tries to sell the resulting footage.
Reps for "Veronica Mars" creator Rob Thomas wouldn't comment on the casting and a request for comment from Franco's camp was not immediately returned.
If Franco appears in the "Veronica Mars" movie, he'll be one of many famous faces popping up. Well, New Girl, meet pointed satire. Paulilu, a New York sketch comedy group, has released Old Girl, their own spin on Fox’s runaway hit. This time, the new roommate isn’t Jessica Day, an odd but attractive young teacher who’s 90% bangs, but Muriel Rosenberg, a cranky octogenarian played by Helen Slayton-Hughes. She’s quick with age-appropriate pop references — silent film hunk Rudolph Valentino, the ’80s procedural Murder She Wrote – and has trouble with pesky amenities like TiVo. What’s funny is that the dynamics of Old Girl are basically the same as on New Girl. Watch it below.

Reality television has almost become a parody of itself. Utilizing the exact same editing style and transitions (set to indistinguishable, beat-driven music) and sensationalized dramatic situations, the genre is a redundant and perverse copy of life. No wonder, then, that aside from mockumentary-style shows (The Office, Parks and Recreation), no one has really touched reality TV. I mean, how can you cleverly mock the utterly mockable?
Well, the Yahoo! web series Burning Love, created by husband-and-wife duo Ken Marino (The State, Party Down) and Erica Oyama (Childrens Hospital) does just that, with blazingly hysterical results. Watching the series for my third time through at the Alamo Drafthouse this past Saturday, with Marino and Oyama present, Burning Love was more hilarious than ever.
The show follows Mark Orlando (Marino), a dimwitted firefighter who is looking for love, but isn’t picky: trying to find "someone who can make [him] laugh,...

Rob Michael Hugel (I Hate Being Single) turns up on a quirky vlog to give dating advice, the online arm of Lorne Michaels’ production company premieres two new web series with Saturday Night Live stars, and First Dates’ Toby Harris (Seth Morris) might actually land a second date.

The trailer features Ben Stiller, the series' executive producer along with fellow Red Hour producers Stuart Cornfeld and Mike Rosenstein, as well as Abominable Pictures’ Jonathan Stern, Marino, and Erica Oyama. The series will...
